Khal Jhaqo is a minor antagonist in the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series. Originally a Ko/commander to Khal Drogo and his khalasar, Jhaqo decided to assemble his own khalasar in the wake of Drogo's incapacitation, and he declared himself khal, a chieftain of a Dothraki khalasar. Ever since then, he became one of the many enemies of Daenerys Targaryen.
In the TV adaptation, he never made an appearance and was only mentioned once.
Biography
A Game of Thrones
When Drogo became ill from an infected wound he had sustained after defeating a rival Khal, Ogo, and his son Frogo, his weakening condition caused him to fall of his horse. Seeing this as a sign of weakness and believing that their own Khal is no longer worthy of leading them, Drogo's once-mighty khalasar immediately split into smaller khalasars; In response to Drogo's illness, Jhaqo declares himself khal and assembled his own khalasar, taking a total of 20,000 Dothraki riders for his own. He also names the bloodrider Mago as one of his own bloodriders.
While Daenerys Targaryen was recovering from the birth of her son Rhaego, who proved to be stillborn, Mago, no longer a bloodrider to Drogo, steals from his former khaleesi a Lhazareen woman called Eroeh, whom he raped, and gave her to Khal Jhaqo, who then raped her out of spite before handing her over to six of his men, who also raped the girl before slitting her throat. After recovering, Daenerys was furious upon learning of Eroeh' s brutal fate and she swore revenge on both Jhaqo and Mago, swearing that they would die screaming.
A Dance with Dragons
While Daenerys and her dragon Drogon, whom she named after the now-dead Drogo, were in the Dothraki Sea, a vast inland region of the eastern continent of Essos, they were discovered by a lone Dothraki scout who immediately fled when approached by Drogon. When the dragon, joined by Daenerys, catched and ate a horse, they were soon found by Khal Jhaqo and 50 of his men.
Trivia
- While Jhaqo and his khalasar are the ones who find Daenerys and Drogon after their flight from Daznak's Pit, in the television series Game of Thrones, men of Khal Moro's khalasar find them instead. In the novels, Moro is a background character who has so far only appeared in one chapter of the first novel, attending Daenerys's wedding outside Pentos.
