“ | A man called Craghas Drahar has styled himself the prince-admiral of this Triarchy. They call him 'The Crabfeeder' due to his inventive methods of punishing his enemies. | „ |
~ Corlys Velaryon |
Craghas Drahar, also known as Craghas Crabfeeder or simply referred to as the Crabfeeder, is a major character in the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series and a major antagonist in the television adaptation, House of the Dragon.
He was a Myrish Prince-Admiral who served the Triarchy and led the conquest of the Stepstones. He is known as the Crabfeeder because he would stake out his enemies on the sands of the Stepstones and leave them to drown when the tide of the water rises, but in House of the Dragon, he does this so they could be eaten by crabs. During the War for the Stepstones, he was slain by Prince Daemon Targaryen.
In the TV series, Craghas Drahar is portrayed by Daniel Scott-Smith.
Fire & Blood
Biography
Craghas Drahar was a noble born in the Free City of Myr. He led the Triarchy's forces in invading and conquering the Stepstones. He gained his sobriquet after he staked out hundreds of pirates along the wet sands of the Stepstones so that they could drown at high tide.
The actions of Craghas and the Triarchy originally gained the approval of Westeros, but it soon turned to resentment when the Triarchy greedily increased the toll of being paid for their services, and men began complaining that Craghas Drahar and his co-admirals from Lys and Tyrosh were vying with each other over who was the greediest amongst them.
War for the Stepstones
Insulted by the avarice of the Crabfeeder and the Triarchy, Lord Corlys Velaryon, famously called the Sea Snake, sought to put an end to their rule over the Stepstones. Together with Prince Daemon Targaryen, who sought to carve a kingdom of his own, the two invaded the Stepstones with their army and Daemon's dragon Caraxes.
Death

After a few years of battle, Craghas Drahar was killed by Daemon, who used his Valyrian steel longsword, Dark Sister, to behead the prince-admiral. Despite the Crabfeeder's death, however, the war for the Stepstones continued when the Triarchy dispatched a new fleet and counterattack under the command of Tyroshi captain-general Racallio Ryndoon. This time, the fleet received the support of Dorne and its ruling prince, Prince Qoren Martell, who led the Dornishmen himself in battle against Daemon and House Velaryon.
House of the Dragon
Biography
Craghas Drahar was born a Myrish in the Free City of Myr. At an unknown point, he became infected with greyscale, which then spread to his face, causing him to wear a broken Ghiscari mask he had found in a shipwreck.
Season 1
The Heirs of the Dragon & The Rogue Prince
When the Triarchy was formed, Craghas Drahar stylized himself as Prince-Admiral, and under his leadership, the Triarchy invaded and conquered the Stepstones, destroying the various pirate kingdoms located there. However, tensions with Westeros began to escalate when the Triarchy began attacking Westerosi ships that passed through the Stepstones, having sunk four of them. Craghas Drahar would employ brutal and cruel tactics on captured crewmen, in which he would stake them on the beach with his war hammer and let them be devoured by crabs. In response to this, Lord Corlys Velaryon began preparing for his invasion of the Stepstones without the leave of King Viserys I Targaryen, and convinces Daemon Targaryen to join him.
Second of his name
When the Velaryon fleet invaded the Stepstones, they besieged the Triarchy's forces on the island of Bloodstone during the night. Unfortunately, however, the Triarchy gained the upper hand, and the Velaryons were defeated. In the aftermath of the siege, Craghas Drahar used his war hammer to stake the survivors on the beach so that the crabs would eat them. The prince-admiral even placed some crabs on a Velaryon knight so he could die a painful and quick death. When Daemon Targaryen arrived on his dragon Caraxes, Craghas and his men discovered a clever strategy to repel them; they hid in caves found on the island. The Crabfeeder watched as Caraxes continued to rain fire on his forces before he withdrew into the darkness of his hiding place. As Craghas Drahar's victories continued to rise over the next two years, many in Westeros began questioning if King Viserys should send in ships to aid Corlys and Daemon, despite their insubordination.
During the siege of Bloodstone, Daemon stages a surprise attack on the Triarchy; he fools Craghas and his men by pretending to surrender under a white flag. When the Crabfeeder exited his cave to make sure that Daemon really yielded, he was shocked to see that he had really feigned surrender and began cutting through his men. However, it turns out to be a trick, as when the Triarchy's forces exit their caves, Daemon uses the opportunity to launch a counter-attack, with Laenor Velaryon and his dragon Seasmoke attacking Triarchy archers. This ambush allowed Velaryon forces to successfully reach the shores while intact and defeated the remaining Triarchy soldiers. Realizing his defeat is imminent, Craghas Drahar retreats into a cave, but Daemon pursues and kills him. The latter then emerges with the Crabfeeder's mutilated body, showing everyone present his victory over the Triarchy.
King of the Narrow Sea & We Light the Way
In the aftermath of the war, Daemon used Craghas Drahar's war hammer to stake Triarchy corsairs on Bloodstone's beaches in the same manner that the Crabfeeder did. After being crowned King of the Narrow Sea, Daemon returns to King's Landing and presents the Crabfeeder's hammer to King Viserys before telling him to add it to the Iron Throne. As for Corlys Velaryon, he keeps Craghas Drahar's mask as a souvenir, displaying it in the Hall of Nine in his seat of High Tide.
