Iglay

Iglay (イギレイ Igirei?) is a human from Land of the Lawless.

Appearance

Iglay has a rugged appearance with shoulder-length hair and bangs framing her face. She has a slim build and wears an oversized jacket that hangs loosely over her frame. Beneath the jacket, she sports a dark, sleeveless crop top. A type of large bandana wraps around her neck. She tops off her outfit with a large cap featuring ear flaps resembling an aviator hat, providing protection from the elements, while goggles rest atop the cap. Iglay pairs her shorts with over-the-knee socks and completes the look with sturdy, heavy boots.

Personality

Iglay is often a quiet observer, preferring to stay in the background, but she doesn't hesitate to speak up when she believes others are making foolish choices. Naturally cautious and deeply mistrusting of people — especially the Lawless — she is unafraid to stage a mock betrayal to drive home the dangers of misplaced trust. Despite her guarded nature, Iglay has a soft spot for her dog, Sam, whom she cherishes as her family.

Plot

Introduction Arc

Iglay participates in the meeting with representatives from other worlds.[1] She nonchalantly finds Muun's remark - about men being men no matter what world they live in - hilarious, after a fight breaks out between some of them.[2]

Demon Lord Arc

When Glasp decides to negotiate with the Lawless, who are attacking them, Iglay bursts into laughter. She finds it absurd that the others believe they can reason with the Lawless and tells them this is the moment when they're all doomed to extinction.[3] After the survivors manage to fend off the Lawless with Masayoshi's bluff, Iglay remarks that the Lawless will return with reinforcements.[4]

Current Arc

Four days later, Zaybi, Glasp, and Thear are discussing the Lawless. Zaybi suggests forming an alliance with them, believing that since they are also human, cooperation is possible. Iglay overhears as she arrives and calls them naïve, warning that they are underestimating the Lawless. She challenges their assumptions, asking if they've ever considered why her world was nearly destroyed despite being inhabited solely by humans. Iglay explains that the real enemy is the evil within humanity itself. She recounts how the good and talented leaders of her world were crushed by the very evil rooted in human hearts, emphasizing that humanity's greatest enemy is humanity.

Zaybi acknowledges her warning but maintains that if they share the same enemies, it isn't impossible for cooperation to replace conflict. With a piercing, disappointed look, Iglay remarks that this belief is precisely why people like him are vulnerable to exploitation. Without warning, she suddenly draws a knife to Zaybi's neck, ordering Glasp and Thear not to move. Iglay reveals that third of the refugees are actually members of the Lawless, and they were just waiting for the right moment to strike. She demands they surrender everything they have.

As Zaybi, Glasp, and Thear stand in shock at Iglay's betrayal, she abruptly reveals it was all an act. The knife she held was nothing more than a toy from the children of the Disastrous Metropolis. While Thear reacts with anger, Zaybi admits Iglay is right - such a scenario could easily occur if they let their guard down. He takes the lesson to heart, acknowledging the danger in underestimating the Lawless. Yet, Zaybi remains hopeful that Iglay will understand his desire for a peaceful future for humanity. Iglay leaves the topic at that.

Suddenly, Sam the dog, begins barking. Iglay calms it, reassuring it that they aren't fighting but simply trying to understand each other and their clashing cultures. Glasp asks why Iglay hasn't eaten the dog yet, referring to it as an emergency ration. Confused, Iglay responds that Sam is her family.[5]

When the Lawless organization, Kyokai, launches another attack, Zaybi decides to go with them to prevent further harm to the survivors. He hides a "parasite bomb" inside his mage robe, hoping he won't have to use it. From a distance, Iglay watches him and quietly remarks that Zaybi is still too naïve. She reflects that if he truly wants to survive, he must be ready to use every card up his sleeve.[6]
