Trivia

Nataru HD 02
  • According to screenwriter Sotaro Hayashi:[1]
    • Initially, Hayashi had no plans to be involved in this series. However, because this was a new installment of Ultraseven, many of the collected storylines seemed quite similar. Especially since there were not many action-centric stories, Takeshi Yagi and Director Kengo Kaji suggested, "If it's going to be action-heavy, let's have Hayashi write it," which led to him being invited to join.
    • Kaji, being particularly skilled in directing female actors, requested female guest actor and action scenes. During that period, Hayashi was frequently listening to YUI's music, which inspired him to create the idea of "a alien girl playing the guitar." This concept developed into a larger story direction focused on "the love story between alien girl and the agent."
    • Hayashi mentioned that his teacher, Fumio Ishimori, had previously written a storyline titled "Star of Friendship Forever" for Ultraman Ace. This precedent influenced Hayashi to try again with a story in a similar dramatic style for the Ultraman series.
    • Given Ultraseven's nature, he decided to steer clear of a plot centered on an invasion plan, as that would make the story too heavy. Instead, he focused on writing a story prioritizing the love story and action scenes.
    • While the original inspiration for the character Natal was YUI, Kaji's homage was to Izumi Sakai of the ZARD band, who passed away in 2007.
  • The character "Agent D" came about after reading the "CODE NAME "R"" collection by Ai Ota. It made Hayashi realize, "Why not have other agents appear?" Initially, he thought of naming the character "J," but since it was too similar to "Jin," he decided to go with "D" instead.
  • The scene where Vadoryudo is instantly shattered by a single strike deviated from the script's description. However, Mr. Kaji insisted, "We need to come up with a completely new use for the Eye Slugger," and that became the final version.
