KB

KB was a female human youngling who lived on At Attin^[1] with her parents Garree and Maree^[6] during the early New Republic Era and was best friends with another child called Fern.^[1] Around 9 ABY,^[9] another child called Wim found an old starship buried in the woods outside their city. After Wim, Fern, KB, and Wim's best friend Neel investigated the ship, they accidentally activated it and became lost in space.^[1] The group of kids then forged an alliance with the ship's droid SM-33 and a Force-sensitive man called Jod Na Nawood to find their way home and avoid a crew of pirates.^[7]

Biography

Early life

KB was born around 1 BBY to her parents, Garree and Maree.^[2] Prior to 9 ABY,^[9] KB had an accident which caused her to need the aid of cybernetic prosthetics which were vulnerable to corrosion caused by moisture or cold temperature.^[5]

Reckless duo

During the era of the New Republic,^[1] around 9 ABY;^[9] the human girl KB went to At Attin Middle School Gamma, along with her best friend Fern, using a hoverbike. The two took a shortcut and arrived earlier than the other students, though they were stopped by a safety droid. After school ended for the day, they went ahead to KB's home with their hoverbike, pulling dangerous stunts along the way. Unfortunately, their hoverbike broke down in the suburbs, forcing KB and Fern to walk for the rest of the trip.^[1]

In her garage, KB inspected the hoverbike to see what was wrong with it, which she quickly found: a busted power converter. She told Fern to acquire a new one, and Fern replied that the component had already been taken by scrappers. Their conversation was cut short, however, as Bonjj Phalfa and their crew arrived to taunt the two about an upcoming race.^[1]

A new discovery

The next day, KB went with Fern to the woods based on a lead accidentally provided by another student Wim, who claimed to have discovered a hidden Jedi temple. The two girls cleared the site up a bit more, which revealed a metal hatch. Before continuing further with their find, KB and Fern hid behind a giant rock as they scared Wim and his best friend Neel, using a voice modulator built into KB's cybernetic implant. The two girls then revealed themselves, being at odds against the two boys who claimed the site to be theirs. The four younglings then made a deal to open the hatch together.^[1]

Together, they opened the hatch and entered through the tunnel. A few minutes after opening the hatch the foursome heard noises, and hid inside the tunnel out of sight. They then started to explore the tunnel. Soon they came upon a lever with a powered off droid. Despite Fern advising against it, Neel pulled the lever, causing the hatch to close. Neel tried to pull it back up, but it would not work. KB observed that the power was off, and the lever needed power to operate. KB decided to follow the red wires to the power source. The rest of the group followed her into the tunnel. After a while, they followed the wires to the power source. Wim split up with them, saying that he wanted to explore more. Meanwhile, KB used her cybernetic implant to plug into the system to try and get the power back.^[1]

However, Wim pressed a button, which caused the "Jedi temple" to shake. Fern told KB to go, and when they found Wim, he said he hadn’t touched anything. Fern told them to get to the hatch, as KB pulls the lever on her way, and they make it to the entrance. They then saw that the building was rising, and they soon realized they were actually in a starship. While trying to escape, Wim almost fell off the ship, and Fern, KB, and Neel grabbed hold of him and pulled him back inside. The ship began to take off, and the children rushed to find the cockpit. Soon they realized they were going through the Barrier, and they attempted to turn around. KB came to the conclusion it was on autopilot, which led them to begin searching for a button that said "auto." When they looked outside they realized that they were no longer on At Attin, as they could see the stars. All of a sudden, the ship jumped to hyperspace, causing the children to scream.^[1]

Leaving At Attin

While they went through hyperspace, Fern asked Wim what he did and called him an idiot. Shortly after, the ship exits hyperspace. KB remarked that if that was hyperspace, they could be far away from At Attin. The kids attempted to turn the ship around and return to their homeworld, when they heard a voice. A droid approached them, calling out for his "captain." Once the droid realized he wasn't there, he attempted to bring the children to the airlock. KB began to think he was malfunctioning, while Fern claimed his captain was dead. The droid didn't believe her and tried to find him while the younglings tried to come up with a plan.^[7]

When Neel asked Wim what they should do, Fern told him not to ask him for help, as he was the one who got them lost in the first place. KB agreed while Wim got angry with Fern. Shortly afterward, Fern asked the droid what his name was. The droid introduced himself as SM-33, and Fern claimed she murdered his previous captain, and that she was his new captain. SM-33 deemed this acceptable, and the kids formed the Skeleton Crew, while SM-33 helped Fern fly the ship.^[7]

Going to Port Borgo

After SM-33 explained all of the buttons in the cockpit, KB remarked that they all made sense, Wim then asked what another button which SM-33 didn't mention does, and SM-33 screamed no, saying it is the Emergency hull demolition sequencer, as he called him a fool, telling him to never, ever, ever touch it, to which, Wim said he wasn't going to touch it, before asking to fly the ship, to which all the kids said no. Afterward, SM-33 suggested they fix the critical systems, claiming he knew a safe starport they could go to. Fern told him to get them back home instead. SM-33 asked where their home was, and Fern said At-Attin. However, he said he didn't remember an At Attin so KB then told him to search his memory bank's last location. Just then, a rat came out of SM-33's eye socket and Neel suggested that the rat ate SM-33's brain. After the children told SM-33 to take them to At Attin several more times, Neel said they were lost, and after an argument, Wim walked away. Fern then decided they should go to the starport to try to find directions to At Attin.^[7]

The kids then arrived at Port Borgo, and as they hopped into a dingy, SM-33 told them to trust nobody. A small, furry alien ferryman then took them to the port. Afterward it asked for payment, so Wim gave him Old Republic credits, to which it got excited over. While trying to find a place for directions, KB remarked on the numerous presence of aliens. Fern told them to stick together, but despite that, they split up. KB noticed a red furry fuzzball with wings in a cage, alongside aquatic jellyfish-like creatures in glass spheres. Shortly afterward a small droid began approaching her, and she bumped into Fern while backing away. Before they could search for Wim and Neel, a woman called Melna came up to them and asked if they were children. She pulled them to a sheltered area, asking who brought them there, and telling them that Port Borgo was actually a shadowport full of pirates. KB and Fern looked at each other and Melna said she would get them to a transport. She asked if they had any money, but they said they already had a ship and just needed directions home. Melna asked what their homeworld was, and Fern told her they were from At Attin, though Melna didn't believe them.^[7]

Melna brought them away, and as she said she is trying to help them, Fern claimed she was trying to kidnap them, and KB told Melna she was hurting her arm. Melna claimed they needed a better story then At Attin, as Fern claimed it was true, she called At Attin a lost planet of eternal treasure. Suddenly, the two girls noticed Wim and Neel being chased by pirates, Fern stops the pirates by firing a blaster upwards, telling them to back off, as a pirate named Vane tells her to put down the blaster as they just want credits, and the pirate takes the blaster off Fern, SM-33 comes, saying he is not leaving without Fern, and Fern says she isn't leaving without KB and the boys, as the pirates attempt to blast SM-33, he begins attacking them all, and they attempt to return to the ship.^[7]

As they get back to the dingy, Fern questions SM-33 why they brought them to the shadowport, to which, he says they are pirates as well, as Fern says they are kids, SM-33 gets blasted by a pirate called Brutus, and they get captured by the pirates, they begin to plan how to get out and return to At Attin, KB says they need to escape the brig, and when Fern asks how, Neel suggests they train the rat to get the key, however, the rat fails to get the key, KB says they also need to find SM-33, and fix him, then they need directions to At Attin, however, KB points out everyone thinks At Attin is a make-believe myth, after an argument between Fern and Wim, a man tells them to stop fighting, saying he wants to help them, asking them to take him with them, as he uses the force to grab the key, as they realize that the man is force-sensitive, he asks them to keep it a secret.^[7]

Escaping Port Borgo

As the man and the kids escape the cell, they begin attempting to escape, not getting caught by guards, however, KB fearing she will get caught, waits, as Fern tells her to come on, she says they will see her, in response to this, the man uses the force to distract the guards so KB can get past, when asked how he did it, he claims he had practice, telling them they need to get to their ship, Fern suddenly says they never agreed to let him come with them, Wim and Neel in response to this, tell Fern he is helping them, however, KB questions why he needed their help if he could escape at any time, to which, he says there was no use without a ship, after a discussion, he reveals himself as Jod Na Nawood, and Wim and Neel tell him their names, and he tells them to follow him, as guards are coming, and Wim realizes he could sense them with the force, and he tells the kids to wait there.^[6]

When Jod leaves, Fern reminds them that SM-33 said to trust nobody, saying he was in jail, before Wim reminds her that they were also in jail, and he has the force, shortly after, KB asks them if that means they can trust them, and Wim begins saying Jedi are the defenders of the galaxy and keepers of peace, when Jod returns, asking them which way, telling them which way is empty and which is full of guards, Fern tells him to go the empty way, and just as he says it is easier to hide in a crowd then an empty corridor, KB tells them to hold as a droid comes, Fern then jokingly states KB has the force too, when Jod says the force flows through everyone.^[6]

The group makes their way to the dingy, and while on it, Fern realizes how easy that was, and Jod asks which ship is theirs, and as Wim tries to explain, Fern says it is a wreck, and KB says it technically shouldn't fly, and they arrive at the ship, when back at the cockpit, Jod says he has an old friend they can visit, saying she is an expert on star maps and lost planets, when Neel reminds them about SM-33, when Jod asks who he is, KB explains that SM-33 is their droid, and he knows how to operate and repair the ship, Jod tries to say they are fine without him, however, Fern says they need him, Jod tries to say he isn't going back for a droid, however, Fern says she thought the Jedi never left a man behind, Jod tries to make an excuse, but Fern says if he doesn't go then she will, and the others including KB also say they will go, Jod says they will be captured again, however, Wim says he could do it, Jod agrees to retrieve SM-33 and tells them to stay there.^[6]

Mission to At Attin

Going to the Observatory Moon

Fern tells the group they should blast off before he gets back, however, Wim is confused by this, and the group argues over whether or not he is trustworthy, as Fern says KB and her vote to leave him, KB reminds her that they are just children, saying they can't return to At Attin on their own, suddenly, they notice Jod returning with pirates after him, Jod tells them they need to go, as they realize they are stuck on a fuel line, Jod tries to snap it, after a while, a cannon begins trying to blast them, and Jod says he is going to activate the hyperdrive, KB says it might be to dangerous to go into hyperspace due to the fuel line being attached to them, however, the line breaks and hits Port Borgo when they enter hyperspace.^[6]

The kids begin to repower SM-33, and he thinks Jod is an intruder, the kids tell him is a Jedi and he can help them find At Attin, causing SM-33 to repeat that he doesn't remember At Attin, as Jod eats some food, he says there is more, and the kids go to get it, after finishing the food, Neel questions if there actually is treasure, thinking it is the Great Work, and KB says her parents are analysts, and Neel says his are as well, when Jod returns, telling them to get some sleep, the others go to bed, when Jod realizes KB is up, and she says it is unlikely he is telling the truth, and that he is probably not a Jedi, and Jod accuses her of not trusting him, KB says she calculated the odds, and Jod says not everything can be calculated, saying they reach his friend's moon in a few hours, telling her to get some rest, and KB gets some sleep.^[6]

The kids arrives at the Observatory Moon, and KB wakes up and they go outside, KB tells Fern the moon is cold, to which, Jod says she will warm up when she starts walking, so the kids go to see Jod's friend, KB asks him why they didn't land closer, telling her they need the exercise, however, Fern claims he is trying to hide their ship, to which, Jod says his friend and him go way back, but he doesn't trust her 100%, claiming she might stab them in the back, which makes KB and the children confused, so Jod simply says they will understand when they are older, they arrive at a base, and Jod knocks on the door, to which, a woman answers, and Jod reffers to her as Kh'ymm, taking of his hood, and Kh'ymm calls him "Crimson Jack", the kids get confused on who Crimson Jack is, before Kh'ymm notes he brought children with him, after a conversation, Kh'ymm lets the group inside.^[6]

As they get inside, Jod greets Kh'ymm, noticing she cleaned up a bit, as she comments on her collection, saying she has trinkets and tokens from 1,000 different worlds, Fern talks to herself about this, not knowing there was 1,000 worlds, and Kh'ymm responds saying there is more, as Kh'ymm flys over to the group, she asks why they are with Jod, and as Neel says he rescued them, KB says he said she could show them how to get to At Attin, Kh'ymm says she has maps of every star in the galaxy and hyperspace routes between them all, and asks where they are from, Neel says they are from At Attin, Kh'ymm flies away shortly after this, and Jod tells her it is true, and then she says At Attin is very interesting as an astrogation problem, flying down with a scroll, saying their home has been purposely hidden from the rest of the galaxy, saying there is no map to At Attin, saying the scroll depicts the Jewels of the Old Republic.^[6]

She says it shows planets hidden for their protection, and says they were all destroyed long ago, except one, which is At Attin, saying it is now only remembered in children stories, pirate shanties, and rumors believed by fools, however, Kh'ymm says she has always believed, as Fern says they need a map, Jod says they are the map, Kh'ymm says precisely, saying they will search her archive by astronomical feature, saying they will find their planet even if it takes all night long, asking what makes At Attin special, Wim says it is boring, and Kh'ymm asks if there are any nearby planets, KB says they learnt about Coruscant and Alderaan in school, and Kh'ymm realized they missed the war, as Neel talks about the Barrier, Kh'ymm asks what it looks like, and Neel says it is cloudy like a swirl, saying it has now been narrowed down to 10,000 worlds, Fern says it will never work, however, KB argues saying they have eliminated 99.99%, when Kh'ymm notices the At Attin Middle School Gamma symbol on Fern's jacket, asking her what it is, Fern says it is because she is head of the class and her mother makes her wear it, saying she can cross-reference it with the Jewels of the Old Republic.^[6]

Kh'ymm scans the patch and Jod says if it worked, Kh'ymm says she has so many parameters to run, however, Jod accuses her of stalling, and Kh'ymm says he dosen't trust her, as Jod hears a radio, Kh'ymm says he wouldn't shoot her infront of the kids, the radio asks for updates on Crimson Jack, and Jod asks her to call them off, Kh'ymm tells them Crimson Jack (Jod) is a scoundrel, saying that he only wants At Attin's treasure, saying she called X-wings to help them, telling them to run, Kh'ymm begins to attack Jod, saying they can't trust him, Jod grabs At Attin's coordinates and he blasts the screen she used to find them, and as the others run, KB notices Kh'ymm, asking her if she is fine, to which she says she will be alright, asking her if she is going with Jod, she says he has got them far, but she doesn't trust him fully, Kh'ymm says if he told her to trust her gut, and she tells her to use her head and get the truth, saying she can call her if they ever need help, and KB nods before running away.^[6]

KB catches up with the group and they run to the ship, before KB says they aren't going anywhere until Jod tells them the truth, as Jod tries to get KB onto the ship, she asks who he is, and Fern follows up, asking why Kh'ymm called her Crimson Jack, saying he will tell them the story on the ship, however, Fern calls SM-33, and the kids refuse to go with him until he tells them who he is, and as Jod says they aren't going anywhere without coordinates, KB calls for X-wings, he says he will tell them on the ship, but KB refuses, telling him to tell them now, before Jod says he is lost just like them, Wim asks if he actually is a jedi, before he says he never actually said he is, after an argument, they decide to make a deal, saying he will help them get home with a little reward, saying they make a partnership, KB interrupts, saying they aren't partners, saying he works for them, Jod agrees to the deal and joins Skeleton Crew.^[6]

The group begins to take off and attempt to escape, and Jod says to get the hyperdrive ready, KB says to get SM-33, however, he says to not rely on a droid, as X-wings chase them, Jod says they need to get to the other side of the moon, and Jod asks Neel to take the controls and gets Wim and Fern to blast the ships, while KB inserts the coordinates, as the ship gets shot, Jod calls for KB, and she says they need to go a little further, Jod retakes control of the ship, asking KB to let him know when they can jump to hyperspace, and not long after, she tells them they are clear, and they jump to hyperspace.^[6]

Landing on At Achrann

The group exits hyperspace and seemed to have found At Attin, KB looks out the cockpit and notices houses, they begin to enter the planet's atmosphere, when they are locked into an autopilot landing sequence, SM-33 cancels it and land the ship himself, once the ship is landed, the group gets off the ship, wondering where everyone is, suddenly, they hear an explosion in the distance, Jod gets off the ship and asks if this is At Attin, saying it reminds him of his homeworld, before Neel realizes this isn't At Attin, the group run of, with Fern telling SM-33 to keep Jod on the ship until they return, they get to a building, where KB tells Fern that this isn't safe, saying it is in danger of collapsing, with Fern responding telling them to watch where they step, Neel points out how a tree is way to big, meaning this isn't At Attin, Wim then begins thinking they fell asleep for 100 years like in Tales of the Knights, before Fern tells him this isn't At Attin, Wim tells her it looks exactly like At Attin, to which, KB agrees, but reminds them that Kh'ymm said there were other hidden planets like theirs that were destroyed, thinking this is another planet co-founded with At Attin, and Fern says anyone that lives here may know about the planet.^[11]

While walking through the planet, they realize there is a lot of smoke, and KB admits getting directions home might be harder then she thought, thinking there has to be somebody on this planet, suddenly, they hear something near them, they see a statue with no head, and Wim wonders who he was, with KB thinking he was the leader of this planet, when they see a blaster bolt get fired, KB stares at the statue, before getting pulled to cover by Fern, suddenly, somebody comes asking them what flag they fly, with Fern saying they don't fly a flag, when another one asks who they are, Fern asks them the same question, with them saying they are Troik, saying if Hattan gets closer, they will kill them, asking them who they are again, Wim introduces himself, asking if they are an army of kids battling the adults for control, before Neel introduces himself, saying they just want directions home, suddenly, an enemy patrol comes, forcing the kids to hide, the older girl says they need to slip away, taking them somewhere safe.^[11]

The Troik takes them to a school, and when they enter, a Troik boy forces them on their knees, introducing them to General Strix, the leader of the Troik, and saying he is the true ruler of At Achrann, revealing the name of the planet to the kids, the boy tells Strix the names of KB and the others, when Fern says she is Captain Fern, Strix asks if they are warriors, Neel says they are children, but Strix says they treat their children as adults, hence, why his daughter, Hayna (the older Troik girl), saved the group, saying they are brave to wonder into Hatten zones, asking them what they seek, Fern responds with directions home, asking them if they know At Attin, they say do not concern themselves with offworlders, causing Wim to ask if they have any ancient maps or star charts, when Hayna reminds her father of the knowledge hidden in the Fallen Sanctum, Strix calls her name, since she wasn't meant to talk about it, when Fern asks what it is, Hayna says there are old carvings, coordinates for other planets, thinking one of them might be their home, Fern asks if they can take them there, however, General Strix says they wouldn't survive the journey, he does say they each have potential however, telling them to train with the Troik to determine if they are ready to go to the Fallen Sanctum.^[11]

KB and the others practice blaster firing, while Neel and Hayna explore a bit, Wim acknowledges KB is good at blaster fire, giving her a high five, when they return, with KB and Fern wondering where they have been, when General Strix returns, saying the group will honor them by leading them into battle, Fern tries to get them out of the situation, but the Troik make them lead them into the battle, Wim says they need to win the battle, but KB says to drop his weapon as soon as the fight begins and follow Fern, before a soldier says talking of desertion will get them shot, when Strix tells them to go and scout ahead, and the Troik aim blasters at them, KB asks Fern how they will run from this, with them pointing their blasters, when Neel is hesitant to go, Hayna says she will go with them, saying she feels it is better to go with a friend when scared, when the group hears some noise, they see Jod ascending through the fog.^[11]

The group sighs in relief, as SM-33 follows behind Jod, with Jod returning their eopies, Strix offers Jod a reward, and Jod requests for the children to be released, with him telling the Troik to let them go, with KB thanking him, Hanya says they have proven they are brave, and says she will take them to the Fallen Sanctum, on the way, Jod explains what happened, saying he gave them Wim's dataries for the eopies, Hayna stops, showing them the Fallen Sanctum, with KB recognizing it as their version of the Supervisor's Tower, after Neel talks with Hayna for a bit, they enter the Fallen Sanctum.^[11]

The group enters the elevator, which KB gets working, as Neel explains this is the Supervisor's Tower on At Attin, when they get to the top of the tower, they notice it is another ruin, Wim ends up finding some coordinates to a planet called At Aytuu, after searching for a bit, Neel finds At Attin's coordinates, when they realize the coordinates were destroyed, with SM-33 explaining he destroyed them when he was here with his old captain, Fern asks why he did it, after SM-33 repeats saying he doesn't remember At Attin, she runs away, with KB attempting to repair his memory, during this, Wim talks with Fern, which makes her ask SM-33 where At Attin is, after repeating the phrase "C-Can't say I remember no At Attin", KB asks her what she is doing, with Fern responding that droids do what they are told, saying he may have been ordered not to say anything about At Attin, saying she used the same trick on her nanny droid back at her house, reminding SM-33 that she is his captain now, telling him to run memory override and remember At Attin.^[11]

SM-33 says he remembers At Attin and explains in this room, where his captain killed any of his crew that saw At Attin's coordinates, slaughtered them, and ordered SM-33 to destroy the coordinates and forget everything he knew of the planet, saying if anyone ever comes poking around looking for At Attin, to pull them apart, limb from limb, SM-33 is about to hit KB, Fern, and Wim, when Neel throws a stone at him, as SM-33 is about to attack Neel, Jod deactivates him, with KB and the others calling Neel brave for what he did, as Neel faints due to the traumatic experience.^[11]

Mission to Skull Ridge Mountain

Back aboard their ship, Neel wakes up and the kids tie SM-33 up, KB tells the group that she rerouted the memory chip so it won't overload his core processor, Neel, still terrified, reminds the group he was just about to tear them apart limb from limb, Jod, then responds saying it will be alright, after Fern and Jod argue, Fern tells KB to switch SM-33 on, and she activates him, Fern then asks him if he remember where At Attin is, after Neel tells Fern to make him promise he won't attack them, SM-33 says he won't harm them, as those were his old captain's orders, calling him "Captain Rennod", but just as Fern is about to ask a question, Jod realizes his old captain was the famous Tak Rennod, and that the ship they are on is the Onyx Cinder, explaining that Tak Rennod is the most infamous pirate the galaxy has ever known, explaining his backstory, however, Fern doesn't care, asking SM-33 if he remembers where At Attin is, saying he doesn't, but Tak Rennod scanned At Attin's coordinates and hid them in his lair beneath Skull Ridge Mountain, afterwards, Fern says that is perfect, and tells SM-33 to take them there.^[13]

SM-33 explains how they were on course for At Attin, when Tak Rennod began to suspect mutiny, and his first mate went mad with greed and challenged him, and his concubine betrayed him, stabbing him with his own dagger, he explains Tak Rennod had the last laugh and locked out the ship's controls, as his crew died crashing into At Attin, as Jod listens, laughing, before Neel asks what a concubine is, before Jod says that is enough storytime for now, as they approach Lanupa, SM-33 says Tak Rennod's lair is hidden in the mountains, where none dare to go, however, KB notices a ship and asks about it, to which, SM-33 thinks it is a cavalcade of fearsome bloodthirsty buccaneers, Jod says he thinks it is a pleasure yacht, Fern thinks he took them to the wrong planet, however, SM-33 says he recognizes the planet, and Skull Ridge Mountain should be ahead, when a ship comes, greeting them, as Jod tries to lie and say they got a reservation, KB asks what a pleasure yacht is alongside the others asking questions, the man says children are not allowed here, Jod tries to say that he and SM-33 will go and get the coordinates, but Fern says they are going, not fully trusting him, and SM-33 says he goes where his captain goes, Jod says they can go but he will need every last Old Republic credit they have.^[13]

KB and the kids get in a disguise to look like old people, to which, KB comes in a brown cloak, as they are greeted into the mountain which is now a hotel & spa, as one of the guards tells Jod there are no weapons allowed in the spa, taking his dagger of him, however, unknown to them, Jod uses the force to reclaim it, after a tour of the spa, Fern thinks the lair is down in the mud baths, to which, KB says she hopes not, Jod asking why there is so much security, as the woman explains the Banking Clan is here for an economic summit and to enjoy the baths, so they are on high alert for spies and impostors, as Jod gives the woman some Old Republic credits to upgrade them to their finest suites, when a bounty hunter called Pokkit recognizes Jod as Dash Zentin, as the kids wonder how many names he has, after a small chat, Pokkit tells the kids to not trust him, and goes.^[13]

As the kids get into their suite, Jod explains she is a ruthless bounty hunter with a grudge, however, KB is interested in the room, like her friends, as Jod closes the windows, he explains they need to assume somebody is after them, as SM-33 explains the lair is in the Spa, KB and the others have a pillow fight, and Jod, angrily asks if they are listening to this, Fern tries to lie, but Jod gets angry, explaining that murderous pirates are after them, to which, KB asks why Pokkit hates him, before Jod says they will split into two teams and search the Spa, KB says she can't go down there, as she is worried about corrosion from the steam, however, she lies saying it is just gross, and Jod says she can take the Sensory Gymnasium, after an argument over teams, Jod says they will do this before the pirates come after them.^[13]

KB ends up going with Jod and Neel, as they look at carvings, KB notes that Tak Rennod's symbol doesn't look like any of them, telling the group to keep looking, when she gets smoke in her occipital link, as the guards spot them, Jod tells KB to cross-reference all of them, as the guards come, KB and the other two run, as the guards call them Wise Elders, KB says they are kids, and as the guards try to arrest them, KB pulls something out, and unscrews something so mud splashes all over the guards, and as they begin to find the lair, SM-33 arrives, saying Fern is in trouble in the grottos, they go down to see a giant alien called Cthallops, as they explain what happened on At Achrann, when they see KB and the others, they introduce Cthallops, saying he would help them if they entertained him, as Cthallops smashes the ground, revealing Tak Rennod's maze.^[13]

As they enter, SM-33 says there is booby-traps inside the maze, telling the kids to follow him and watch where they step, as Neel accidentally steps on one, lasers nearly decapitate them, after making their way through the maze, they find where his lair is, however, Acid covers it, Jod says to look for a lever, however, KB notices words in Aurebesh what says "All who enter paradise must make the greatest sacrifice", which KB thinks means life, before Jod says they have a lot to learn about pirates, explaining Tak Rennod didn't think twice about taking a life, as KB realizes life isn't the greatest sacrifice to him, as they realize credits is the greatest sacrifice for him, as Jod gets a credit and throws it in the acid, and after a minute, it empties.^[13]

As they enter the lair, the pirates find them and try to blast them, causing them to close the door, however, the group makes it into Tak Rennod's lair, SM-33 says the coordinates will be in his datalog, the group begins to search, as Neel calls them over, explaining how all of the food on a table looks rotten, except a roast what looks fresh from the cooker, as Neel nearly falls into a booby-trap because he stepped on a chair, Jod says he will grab it, upon lifting it up, they find Tak Rennod's log, as Fern and Jod tell SM-33 to access the dataport, as they find At Attin's coordinates, as Jod tells SM-33 to refill the chamber with acid, causing the pirates to die, and Jod asks SM-33 to find out what the treasure is, he pulls up a hologram of Tak Rennod, as he explains it is the last Old Republic Mint.^[13]

As Wim asks Fern what a mint is, Fern explains it is where they make money, as Fern reminds Jod of the deal, Jod tells SM-33 he wants to challenge Fern for the rank of Captain, after Jod tells Fern to say she yields, she attempts to fight Jod, however, he uses the force to block her attacks and threatens her with his dagger, as KB begins to cry alongside Fern, Wim attempts to save Fern using a lightsaber Tak Rennod had found, however, he holds it the wrong way and the weapon flies across the room, forcing Fern to say she yields, as Jod tells SM-33 to take them prisoner for mutinous intent against their captain, however, Wim saves the group by activating a trap door.^[13]

Corrosion and Near-death

The kids fall through pipes, which lead them outside in a snowy environment, Neel noticing KB on the ground, walks up to her and asks if she is okay, as he calls the others over to make sure she is alright, Fern tells the group that her augs can sometimes go bad and she can't move, as KB nods, and Fern begins to reset her occipital link, not long after, KB notices pirates flying away, and the group realizes X-wing starfighters are fighting them off, like the ones Kh'ymm called, Wim realizes that the people inside the starfighters are the good guys, and the kids try to call for them, however, the piolets don't notice them, as KB says it is to bad as she has the coordinates to At Attin and everything, when the kids hear this, they realize they just need to return to the Onyx Cinder and KB can take them home, Fern calls it perfect, as the ship is still here, but KB tells Fern that it isn't perfect, saying it's impossible, as KB walks off, Fern runs after her, asking her if she is okay, and KB nods, as Fern asks KB how they should climb the cliff, KB says to consider some other options, Fern, not knowing any other options, angers KB, and she says she just assumes there aren't any, and claiming if she was actually interested she would be listening for once, after a short argument, Wim finds Trash crabs and has the idea to follow them, as Fern and Neel disagree with his plan, KB agrees to it, so KB goes with Wim while Fern and Neel climb the cliff.^[5]

While walking, Wim asks KB if she went with him because she believes in the trash crabs or because she is mad at Fern, after no response, KB sits down as the steam which got into her occipital link prevents her from moving, while Wim finds a droid like SM-33, asking KB if she thinks he is okay, before noticing KB sat down, as KB tells Wim she can't move, saying her augs are corroded, and KB tells Wim to gather some droid servos and he might be able to fix it, and Wim rushes to get some, when he returns, he asks if what he got is enough, and KB says it is, showing him what to do, as Wim does what KB told him to do, Wim asks if she has done this before, to which, she says that she sort of has, but not outside, Wim then asks if this is why she didn't want to climb, as Wim realizes that is why, he says she could have told Fern, as KB tells Wim she isn't exactly living in the real world herself sometimes, to which, Wim agrees, but asking what she means, as KB tells him that ever since her accident, Fern assumed she could do anything she could, like she isn't different., as Wim says it sounds good, she says she is different, KB then tells Wim to pull out the resonator housing and remove the micro-fuse, as Wim asks what a micro-fuse is, she says it is a little metal cylinder, as KB continues, telling Wim that pretending she can run around on a freezing cold moon through a bunch of steam, and climb a cliff after days without maintenance, saying that it isn't reality, Wim says to tell her that, but KB says she can't do that because she doesn't have the patience for that and then she will have zero friends again.^[5]

Wim says that is dumb, and saying she could just be friends with him and Neel, and she smiles, once Wim finishes unwinding some lighter wires, he asks if it is enough, to which, she says it will have to be, she then says to melt the wires using a blowtorch, while he is doing it, she makes a mold, which she tells Wim to pour the melted wires into, once he does that, she tells Wim to replace the micro-fuse, Wim says it doesn't fit, and she tells him to push it in, he manages to replace the micro-fuse, and KB repowers, saying that was close, when Wim says to what, she responds with total system shutdown, saying he probably thought it would have been more exciting to save somebody's life, but says thank to Wim, referring to him as "Jedi", and they begin to follow the Trash crabs again.^[5]

KB and Wim begin to get close to their home, when they see a giant trash crab, and the smaller ones surround the two kids, and KB realizes they brought them there to feed the giant trash crab, Wim grabs a walkie talkie and trys to call Neel and Fern, when they see the Onyx Cinder connected to three trash scouts coming towards them, noticing Fern and Neel on it, as the Onyx Cinder gets lower, KB and Wim hop onto one of the trash scouts, however, the giant trash crab throws a rock at one of the trash scouts, causing the group to crash, as Wim says they are getting good at falling, KB says to make it the last time, as Fern runs over to KB asking her if she is okay, she says she is, telling her that Wim fixed her augs, Fern tries to apologize for leaving them, but Wim says she was amazing, and how she got the ship, during which, Fern apologizes for not listening, but KB apologizes for not telling her, and they both say they are each other's best friend, before hugging, when they hear something in the distance.^[5]

They find a scrapper barge approaching the Onyx Cinder about to destroy it, they rush towards the starship to try save it, Fern asks if anyone knows how to start the ship, to which, KB says she watched SM-33 and Jod do it, she begins pressing buttons, however, the scrapper barge gets closer, so KB goes to jump start the engine, leaving Neel to fly the ship like he did on the Observatory Moon, KB hits the engine and it begins to start, once it is ready, KB tells them to fly the ship, however, it gets stuck, and Fern tells KB to give them more power, offering one last surge, when she does it, the engine overheats, when Fern has the idea to use the Emergency hull demolition sequencer to remove the outer hull of the Onyx Cinder, Neel says SM-33 said to never touch it, and as KB repeats he said to never, ever, ever touch it, Fern presses it anyways, removing the outer hull of the Onyx Cinder so they can escape, as KB stops the engine from catching fire, and the group escapes Lanupa.^[5]

Returning Home

While in hyperspace on the way to At Attin, KB watches the ship's instruments, while Fern and Neel play with a slap ball, once in the cockpit, KB tells them they should be home soon, however, Wim feels upset, knowing everything will go back to the way it was once they reach At Attin, thinking he should have never pushed the button in the first place, KB tells him to not say that, as the group says how fun the adventure was, and Fern telling Wim she is glad he pushed that button, after a bit, the group arrive at At Attin's Barrier, with KB realizing how it looks from the outside, however, they get caught in a tractor beam and the Onyx Cinder is pulled onto Brutus' frigate.^[15]

Captured by Pirates

Brutus tells the group to come out of the Onyx Cinder unarmed, or they will come in, before he can enter the ship however, the group grabs him with a cargo riding claw, as KB uses her voice modulator to tell the pirates to stay away, telling them to release the tractor beam and they will let him go, when Jod gets close to Brutus, KB sees him, and whispers his name in her normal voice, as Jod uses the force to remove his handcuffs, KB uses her voice modulator to tell him to not come closer, saying it is their last warning, telling him to let them go, or they will kill Brutus, however, Jod blasts and murders Brutus, with Jod now in control of the pirates, he gets Kona and Pax to capture the group and seize control of the Onyx Cinder.^[15]

KB and her friends get taken hostage by Jod, with Jod trying to find out what allows the Onyx Cinder to get through At Attin unharmed, when a transmission comes through, suddenly, a hologram of Fern's mother, Fara, says they sent out a transmitter to send a message, and the hologram of Fara tells Fern she loves her, telling her daughter she isn't in trouble, with the children getting closer to the hologram, when KB's parents, Garree and Maree appear, they tell her not to give up no matter what, telling her they know she must be scared going so long without maintenance, while KB and her friends try to get closer, Pax stops them, with Fern saying they aren't trying to escape and they just want to hear the message, as Garree, tells her to get her friends to help keep her dry, and she shouldn't have too many malfunctions, telling KB to return to At Attin where she belongs, as Neel's parents give Neel some encouragement, Fara says they can't transmit any coordinates due to security procedures, but she tells the kids they can get home, telling them to find a Republic Emissary, as Wim's father, Wendle appears, he says that they are an official who knows the secret location of At Attin and how to get through it's barrier, telling them to be careful as the barrier can be dangerous, he tells the kids to not tell anyone else where they are from, unknown to them that they already have, he says he wished he could say more, saying he wasn't supposed to find out about any of this until graduation, and Wendle apologizes to Wim, before the hologram ends.^[15]

The kids realize they need to take back the Onyx Cinder, they plan on tricking Jod, as they know he is greedy, before Wim attempts to attack him, as Kona grabs Wim, he says the Onyx Cinder is their ship as they found it first, and as Jod says it is his, SM-33 says the Onyx Cinder remains unattested since he is captain of the frigate, and he says a captain can only claim one vessel by the pirate code, as Wim attempts to claim it, Jod puts his hand over his mouth, causing his speech to be muffled, as Jod claims it, however, Fern then calls "unclaimsies" and claim it only for kids, and Fern tells SM-33 to get the pirates of the Onyx Cinder, and shortly after, SM-33 punches Jod in the face and gets them off the Onyx Cinder.^[15]

The Onyx Cinder begins taking off, Fern tells SM-33 to get them back to At Attin, to which, he says it would be is honor, pirates attempt to blast the ship down, and they escape the frigate, however, some fighters chase it, as they enter At Attin's barrier, and the barrier begins to blow up the other fighters, as SM-33 reveals the Onyx Cinder is actually an At Attin ship so he could fly to the planet safely, and they make it through the barrier to find At Attin, KB says it looks huge from up here, as the ship is locked into an autopilot landing sequence like on At Achrann, suddenly, they notice Jod sneaked onboard, SM-33 tries to stop him, when he gets sliced as Jod pulls out the lightsaber Wim dropped in Tak Rennod's lair, where Jod tells the kids to get on the ground.^[15]

As Jod deactivates the lightsaber, he attempts contacts the frigate, however, KB notices the Barrier is jamming the signal, as Jod screams that he knows at KB, he attempts to fly the ship, and as Neel says it it on autopilot, he tells him to shut up, Wim tells Jod to leave him alone, when Jod says for all of them to shut up, calling Wim the worst one, and calling them all weak, and calls them all spoiled, he says they will land, he will contact the frigate, and they won't say a word about what is going on, and as he says if he gets a hint any of them are thinking otherwise, he ignites the lightsaber and points it towards their necks, as he says he enjoyed seeing their parents' faces, as it made it very easy for him to know who to carve up, saying if they don't behave, he will cut their parents up piece by piece, slowly, before he deactivates his lightsaber.^[15]

Reunion at the Mint

As the Onyx Cinder lands on At Attin, the kids and Jod exit the ship, where a Safety Droid welcomes him, thinking he is a Emissary, the droid says hello to the kids, but reminds them that travel outside the barrier is not permitted, and the droid says the planet-wide protocol requires that any visiting Emissary must go directly to the Mint to begin Offload procedures, Jod tells the droid he needs to speak to his other ship, saying the comms have been jammed, and the droid says they will proceed to the Mint, as the droid says he will alert the group's parents, Jod says to hold them on his ship, and the children wait on the ship while Jod requests to talk with the Supervisor so he can get the frigate through the barrier, while Jod looks inside the vault, the group's parents come down on a lift, as the kids rush to hug their parents, KB hugs her parents while smiling, as Jod appears behind them, igniting his lightsaber.^[15]

Maree, one of KB's moms, ask how they can thank him, and KB stares at Jod as he says reuniting families is what he does, telling the parents he is called Jod Na Nawood, before deactivating his lightsaber and bowing, as Fara asks if they are in trouble, Jod says they are, claiming they stole a ship, breaking just about every security protocol, saying At Attin and it's safety should be their top, top priority, as Fara takes full responsibility for their actions, as Jod says to take them home, and asking the droids to keep an eye on them, as KB and her parents go home, Jod tells Fern and her mother to come with her.^[16]

Invasion of At Attin

After Jod goes to the Supervisor's Tower, he destroys the Supervisor and has Fara disable the barrier, causing At Attin to be invaded by his pirates, and the frigate enters At Attin, and KB watches as her home is invaded by pirates, and she runs to get her hoverbike to find Wim.^[16]

Neel and KB get to Wim's house on their hoverbikes, and Wim runs over to the two, asking if they think Fern is okay, KB responds saying she doesn't know, but realizes Jod has done something to the Supervisor, and Neel says they need to call for help, Wim asks how they will call for help, to which, Neel reminds them of how the X-wings chased the pirates away on Lanupa, and KB reminds them that Kh'ymm knows them, so Neel says they get to the Onyx Cinder, fly out of the Barrier, and call her for help, so Wim gets his hoverbike and follows KB and Neel, with Wendle following behind Wim telling him to come back, catching up to the children using another hoverbike.^[16]

Before Wendle has a chance to stop them, pirates exit the frigate on airspeeders, KB calls her parents on a comlink telling them to stay hidden as pirates are invading, but assures them she is getting help, as the citizens of At Attin are made slaves by the pirates, including KB's parents, two airspeeders find KB alongside Wim, Neel and Wendle and they just narrowly avoid being hit by their blasters, being chased by the airspeeders, KB tells the others they need cover, as they head for a giant cliff, KB tells them to go full throttle, and all four of them make it over the cliff, it doesn't take long before another airspeeder finds them however, in need of cover, KB tells the group to go into At Attin Middle School Gamma, which was already blasted by pirates, despite being called crazy by Neel, the group makes it inside the building, however, as the pirates blast the building, Neel's hoverbike gets hit and he is knocked off, KB alongside Wim and his dad stop, but Neel assures them he is okay and tells them to go without him, telling the group the ship might need cover via walkie talkie, the group reaches the Onyx Cinder and enter the cockpit and Wim and KB power up the ship, however, as KB attempts to launch, they realize the legs are stuck in docking clamps, with Wim telling KB they need to restore power, KB asks how they will do that, and Wendle realizes the power relays are routed through the Supervisor's Tower, so, Wendle and Wim go to restore power, during this, KB rebuilds SM-33, once the power is restored, KB begins to fly the Onyx Cinder.^[16]

KB's parents ask how she is flying it through a comlink how she is flying it, to which, KB said she had help, with SM-33 asking KB to hold her head steady, the frigate attempts to blast the Onyx Cinder, but is saved when Neel blasts the canons with a turbolaser, KB and SM-33 make it through the barrier and she contacts Kh'ymm, telling her about the invasion, Kh'ymm asks her if she found her way back to At Attin, to which, KB says yes, and sends her the coordinates, asking her to send some X-wings, and Kh'ymm says she will contact the New Republic, saying they are the greatest pirate busters in the galaxy, KB says that is good, but tells Kh'ymm they will need to find a way through their Barrier, before the Onyx Cinder gets blasted by the frigate, SM-33 attempts to take evasive maneuvers, while KB contacts Wim, saying she got a message through, but has been hit, as Fern and Wim look out the window of the Supervisor's Tower to see the Onyx Cinder going down, Garree, one of KB's moms, contacts her asking her if she is alright, she says she is fine, saying she will fix the damage, to which, Maree says she can fix anything, due to her and SM-33's amazing flying, she was able to survive the crash, however, everyone thought KB perished during the crash.^[16]

KB's actions proved to be pivotal as Fern, Wim, and their parents manage to destroy the Barrier and Wendle managed to knock Tak Rennod's lightsaber out of Jod's hand, which was grabbed by Wim, making sure to hold it right this time and igniting it, and the New Republic arrives, defeating the pirates and destroying the frigate, Wim and Fern ran to see if KB was okay, and Neel finding the two, runs to see the Onyx Cinder crashed, with KB falling out of it landing on a massive pile of Old Republic credits, waking up and asking her friends if they won the fight, to which, they say yes, and all hug each other , as SM-33 comes out saying it is one of his better landings, as the Onyx Cinder is about to crush them, the kids run to not get crushed by the ship, as a CR90 corvette enters At Attin's atmosphere.^[16]

Personality and traits

KB was intelligent and at times quiet and thoughtful.^[18] Having spent her early childhood with "zero friends" she was afraid of speaking out about her needs so as to not antagonize her best friend Fern even when her own fragile health was at risk. KB had a grey cybernetic implant at the back and right side of her head. It was connected to another, visor-like implant which she could manually raise and lower, and which she kept in front of her eyes most of the time. She usually wore yellow fingerless gloves on her hands.^[1]

Behind the scenes

KB first appeared in the Disney+ live-action television series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, portrayed by Kyriana Kratter.^[19] She was first identified in a listing by German retailer Müller revealing the LEGO Star Wars: Skeleton Crew set 75374 The Onyx Cinder.^[20] The design of KB was inspired by the character Lobot.^[21]
