Planet Freedom

Planet Freedom (惑星フリーダム, Wakusei furīdamu^?), also known as the planet of Freedom or Earth^{[citation needed]}, is the main setting of Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie. It is the home planet to Sonic, Tails, Dr. Robotnik and many others. The entire planet is unique in that it is split into two layers: the Land of the Sky and the Land of Darkness.

Description

Planet Freedom is similar to the real-life Earth, though with a different appearance. Most of the planet is blue-colored due to its surface being covered in water. Many environments can be found on Planet Freedom, such as cities.

The populace of Planet Freedom ranges from anthropomorphic animals to human-like beings. The planet is also home to a number of strange human-animal hybrids. These include Sara, the President's daughter, who appears to have cat-like features.

History

Past

In the past, ancient civilizations lived on what would be later named the Land of Darkness, though an incident forced them to move to the Land of the Sky.^{[citation needed]} Much time later, Dr. Robotnik would establish his base on the Land of Darkness, where he would plot his plans to conquer Planet Freedom, all of which would be stopped by Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends.

Main locations

Planet Freedom is made up of two different regions referred to as "dimensions", that separates the planet into two different layers; the outer world that is called the "Land of the Sky" and the inner dimension that is called the "Land of Darkness". Within these regions, several cities and other "Zones" can be found.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, Planet Freedom was the name of Mobius in an altered timeline created by Chaos Knuckles. However, its existence was brief, as history would be restored shortly after Planet Freedom came into being.
