Bushbubble

Bushbubble[1] (ハッパー[2] Happā?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, light bulb and plant-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance

The Bushbubble is a Badnik that resembles both a plant in a jar and a light bulb at the same time. It has a stone-shaped yellow head with a black spot or hole where two white eyes with black pupils are seen. Below the head, there is a metal cylinder stalk that ends in a ball that is seen in the end of the Badnik. The neck appears in a glass dome that is closed with a metal plate. There are leaves near a yellow plate with a green line that is located above the ball. Additionally, the Bushbubble can also flash their light as well, making them more dangerous to touch.

Overview

The Bushbubbles make their only appearance in Knuckles Chaotix, where they can be exclusively found in Botanic Base. In gameplay, the Bushbubbles slowly move left to right across the ground, spinning their leaves around while doing so. The Bushbubbles do not make active attempts to attack the player, and only move back and forth between set positions. They can easily be defeated with any attack, but will not drop a Dark Ring upon destruction.

ElecBubble

Curiously, however, two specific Bushbubbles both found in the lower path of Botanic Base Level 3 behave differently from the rest when encountered at the "night" or "sunset" time periods. When encountered under such circumstances, these Bushbubbles are constantly electrified, and move considerably faster. Because of their electrified body, the player is normally unable to destroy them, and will even take damage when attempting to do so. The only way to defeat them is by attacking while under the effects of the Invincibility power-up. When encountered at the "morning" or "day" time periods, these Bushbubble behave identically to all the others.

Trivia

  • Their Japanese name "Happa" means "leaf" in Japanese.
  • The Bushbubble appears in the English version of the box cover artwork for Knuckles Chaotix. However, the level it is seen in is Speed Slider, despite not appearing in that level within the final game.
