Due to the proliferation of plants, the dome around Botanic Base is almost completely unseeable. The enemies are also camouflaged as plants. Apparently there is a terrace above the dome, and if you pass through it, you may reach the goal easily.

Dr. Robotnik starts off the battle by shooting the ground, causing it to crumble. Robotnik then uses his machine to trap the player's partner at the top of the screen, forcing the player use the elastic force of the ring bond to attack Robotnik in another machine that revolves from one side of the stage to another. To make matter worse, Robotnik shields his machine with electricity, meaning careful timing is needed to strike without the player taking damage. Attacking Robotnik's machine will cause the player's partner to be temporarily released, allowing Robotnik to be battled in a more conventional way. The battle ends when the machine is destroyed, which releases the Dark Ring that was powering the machine, causing Robotnik to flee in his machine.

Trivia

  • Botanic Base was originally named "Botanic Garden" early in the game's development.[2]

Archie Comics

RainbowValleyArchie

In the Pre-Super Genesis Wave timeline of the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, a location known as Rainbow Valley appears, seemingly being visually inspired by Botanic Base in part. Due to legal issues regarding the original name, the name of the area was later retconned to Botanic Base, shortly before it was removed from the comic entirely as a result of the Super Genesis Wave.[3]

In the comic, Rainbow Valley was a lush and colorful valley on Angel Island, home to a community of reclusive mobian chameleons, including Espio the Chameleon. Despite its mysterious and hidden nature, the valley would eventually be invaded by a Roboticized Valdez and his army of Shadowbots, the efforts of whom were eventually thwarted by Espio.[4][5]
