The Axel Spin[1] is a move that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a variation of the Spin Attack used by Espio the Chameleon.
Description

When performing the Axel Spin, Espio performs a horizontal spin upon his axis at high speeds across the ground.
In the gameplay of Knuckles' Chaotix, any unprotected enemy that Espio makes contact with during his Axel Spin will take damage. Additionally, this can allow him to gain or conserve momentum if used correctly with the surrounding terrain. By comparison, the Axel Spin functions similarly to the Spin Attack, although it appears to have a slightly larger attack range. To perform the Axel Spin in gameplay, the player must press down on the while running.
