Tokyo, Japan is the main setting of the AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES series.
It is based on the real life Tokyo Metropolis, set in modern times but with certain technological advances in some areas.
Various events have occurred within the city of Tokyo, such as the Ujisaki Family Turf War, the Kabasaki Chemical Plant Explosion, both the Original and New Cyclops Serial Killings, and the Half Body Serial Killings.

Trivia
- The Ota and Shinagawa Districts are never mentioned by name in AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES, instead always referring to the island that both districts share as the Kabasaki District. Despite this, the names "Ota District" and "Shinagawa District" appear in Japanese in the map found in Boss's Office. This odd omission is most likely due to the name of the Ota District, which is pronounced the same (but written differently) as the name Ota Matsushita.
- The Shinagawa District in particular contains the Sagan Residence, Enda Residence, Matsushita Diner, Bloom Park, and the Kabasaki Chemical Plant as locations based on matching with real-world geography, while the Ota District is unused in all the games.
References
- ↑ It was initially unclear whether the Lemniscate Entertainment Offices were located in the Shibuya District or the Minato District, as the location bordered both districts in AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES. However, the map was updated in AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES - nirvanA Initiative to appear closer to 3-Chome or 4-Chome Jingumae in Shibuya rather than in Minato (despite Jingumae's history as a residential area).
- ↑ The Sagan Residence was originally believed to be in the Meguro District due to the map's layout in AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES. However, the map was updated with the release of AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES - nirvanA Initiative, showcasing the residence just over the edge into Shinagawa. This matches the school districts for the Matsushita Diner and the Enda Residence, which both have children who attend/attended Hitomi Sagan's classes. Additionally, in the chapter Day 3: Sunday –gyoukAI–, Hitomi explains that Renju Okiura moved to her school district so that Mizuki Okiura could attend that same school, as Renju is Mizuki's legal guardian despite living in the Koto District with Kaname Date.
