Rising Tackle

Rising Tackle (ライジングタックル) is a Special Move in both the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series, serving as one of Terry Bogard's signature moves. Rock Howard, Terry's adoptive son and the biological son of Geese Howard, also uses the move as well.

Alice Nakata also performs a Rising Tackle during her Special Wolf Combination in The King of Fighters XIV, as one of the many moves she borrows from Terry (and by extension, Rock).

Description

Terry or Rock spins upwards whilst upside-down to drill-spin upwards into the air, with one leg tucked into middle and one arm stuck out.

Both of them flip back right-side-up upon reaching the apex of their upside-down jump.

Depending on the game, either the drilling kick and/or the extended arms act as the move's hitboxes.

Strategy

In all of its appearances, Rising Tackle is to Terry (and Rock) what the Shoryuken is to Ryu (and Ken): a simple, reliable, and effective anti-air that can also function as a reversal if knocked down. Naturally, in most cases, it can also be used as a combo ender, or to cancel into Super Special Moves like Power Geyser or Buster Wolf (as Terry).

Rock, however, is notable in that he can perform a Brake on the version of the move (notably in KOF XIV and XV) move by pressing + as the move connects, granting him a free follow-up in... whatever you want, really. Though the most damaging and optimal follow-up is almost always a Hard Edge.

In most of the move's appearances, due to the charge input, what it can be comboed into is somewhat limited depending on the game and its version. For Terry, it can be easily performed after a Rising Upper on hit (by holding to charge it), while the best Rock can do in most cases with the charge input is after a light confirm or after an Hard Edge and/or Rage Run Type: Dunk on hit.

As of KOF XV, however, the gloves are off and the move has the most combo potential its ever had in any of its prior outings -- for both characters that are able to use it. Terry can perform it after a ver. Power Charge on hit (further bolstering his already absurd damage potential even further) while Rock, who also has the same input as Terry's version, can do it after just about anything - light confirms (e.g., cr.(x2), f., +), jump-ins, you name it.
