The Refinery (also internally known as 11_Refinery) was supposed to be the fifteenth (fourteenth at the time of removal) level of Serious Sam 4, and is the fourth known cut level. It is the first cut level in Serious Sam history to leave a gap in internal level numbering scheme (10_OilRig → 12_Tunguska).
It has since been reintegrated into the series as part of the levels A Smell Of Petroleum Prevails and The Song Of The Stormbringer in Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem, though the documents and recordings relating to General Brand have been moved to a different level.
Plot
After the departure from oil rig "Thunderbird", Sam arrives at the coast of Taimyr and finds, or gets from future Sam, a snowmobile, that has little to no fuel. Nearby lies an abandoned Refinery, and he ventures there to find it. During his search, he discovers that there is an EDF digging operation there, which has uncovered Sirian starship fuel and a Proto-Slavic manuscript written by the Arc-Al-Magi. Mental's Horde wants to destroy the starship fuel while General Brand wants the manuscript. The Sirian fuel was relocated to a bunker so Sam heads towards the bunker and as he approaches it, the forest starts to burn down, and the level ends. What happens next is unknown.
Side Missions
A Drone is Never Alone
After exiting the hangar with second Brand audio log and several dead bodies, a bunch of drones will fly over a wall in front of you, go after them and you'll find a drone facility with a few Companion Drones.
Don't Squat On The Chainsaw
After a long fight between oil tanks, right before entering inner parts of the refinery, turn right towards the ocean. Near a locked gate you'll find a note from Vadim, talking about how a cargo plane that flew above refinery dropped down some supplies, among which was the FRPCL.
Sam Squared
As you approach the dig site, Professor Kiesel calls in and says that he has detected a structure that shows an unusual Tachyon signature, and suggests you to investigate it. The structure in question is some big blue crystal, near which lies a note from future Sam. The rewards for completing the side mission are three Psychotropic Grenades and a H.E.A.R.T., although the holographic side mission marker on the level states the reward is the Cluster Grenades upgrade for the MK III Grenade Launcher.
