"Aah, fresh salty air!"
NETRICSA to Sam

"Crystal Cove" is the fourth level of the Bright Island campaign in Serious Sam Classics: Revolution.

Plot

Finally out of the caves, Sam ventures into a massive cove and is able to see another pyramid in the distance. NETRICSA is confident that this must be the Astral Engine that the archives from the underground library talked about and as such their ticket off the Bright Island. Along the coastline and in front of a large waterfall are two primitive villages, which the first Sirian expedition were forced to use as their new homes after the great catastrophe struck.

An accident with the Astral Engine transported them and the island between dimensions and caused the elemental energies they were experimenting on to get loose, creating the new golems seen on the island. Constant attacks by these elementals eventually wiped the last Sirians out, so now their structures stand vacant. There is nothing more that can be done for them, so the only way forwards is to the Astral Engine.

Secrets

  1. At the start of the level, instead of heading out of the ravine and towards the cove, head to the large cable structure above the level entrance. Behind it is an XL2 Lasergun and some Electricity cells. Be careful, as some Mud Golems will spawn shortly afterwards.
  2. Once you have a good view of the cove, there is a large bell hanging inside a circular rock formation behind you. Shooting the bell causes it to ring, which temporarily spawns a Gnaar on the upper cliffs on the other side of the level. Shoot a rocket at the bell, switch to your RAPTOR Sniper Rifle and wait for the bell to ring, then shoot the Gnaar, killing her. This will not have an immediate effect, but will cause two giant Gnaars to spawn towards the end of the level on the other side of the river (be sure to keep to the mountain-side or you might miss their spawn area), which will spawn dozens of regular-sized Gnaars and flying Gnaars in their wake after they have been killed.
  3. Before sliding down to the first village there is a church-like building next to the aforementioned bell. Use the elevator inside to get to the second floor and activate a lever behind a pillar. This will open a hidden entrance to the other side of the building at the elevator. Go through the newly opened door and onto another elevator platform, which will take you to the top of the church and to a secret SBC Cannon.
  4. Underneath the large bell are some cannonballs. Behind the church is a Serious Jump power-up, though both the cliff and the building are too large to be jumped on from down there. Instead, go back through the church the same way you got to secret #3. The power-up should last just long enough for you to jump safely across. Alternatively, if you are playing on Normal difficulty or higher, you can also rocket-jump across from the roof if you don't mind taking some damage.
  5. Take the Serious Jump again and head for the slope that would take you down to the village. You will be able to see some overhanging rock platforms with a small wooden hut above. Use the power-up to jump along the wall and onto the platforms, though be careful not to fall downwards as you will not be able to get back up again. Inside the small hut is another Serious Jump in case you run out. The highest platform has a wooden board on it that points to a hut on stilts below. This hut has an Invulnerability power-up on it. Jump down to collect it.
  6. Inside the second village, the one you need to travel through to get over the river, there are some secret cannonballs in the highest hut closest to the waterfall.

Trivia

  • If the player completed "Valley of Plenty" going into this level, NETRICSA's quote upon starting the level will change to "Phew, that tunnel out of the valley lead us just where we had to go!".
  • The music in this level is reused from the second half of the Serious Sam: Xbox rendition of the "Tower of Babel" level, which is also just called "Tower of Babel".
  • This and "Tropical Bluffs" are the only levels in the Bright Island campaign that do not have any broken enemy spawners.
