- "Why does everyone think they are comedian?"
- ―Dmitry[src]
Dmitry is a soldier serving in the Earth Defense Force who formerly worked as a security guard at the Thunderbird Oil Platform. He joined the EDF to assist them in their fight against Mental.
He is introduced as a minor supporting character in Serious Sam 4 and Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem. While he does appear in-person in Siberian Mayhem, a few audio logs from him can still be found.
Biography
Not much is known about Dmitry's early life. At some point during the Mental War, he was employed to work as a security guard for the company Thunderbird, on an oil platform located somewhere in the Arctic Circle. At some point, the oil rig was taken over by Mental's forces and the Cult of the Eightfold Manifestation, who had killed all personnel on site, save Dmitry, who had become the only known survivor.[1]
Dmitry managed to escape from the oil platform and headed inland towards the oil refinery on the mainland. He stayed there for a while, making more complaints before leaving to join the EDF to assist in the fight during the Tunguska Offensive.[2]
Appearances
Serious Sam 4

After Sam manages to escape from a treacherous General Brand's clutches, he parachutes down from his plane and lands at an abandoned oil platform. Spotting a boat in the distance, Sam hopes he can use it to get to the Tunguska portal and stop Brand from handing over the False Grail to Mental. While ascending the building, Sam finds multiple audio logs left behind by Dmitry, who complains about various things that happened at the oil platform while he was working there.[1]
Dmitry is seen at an EDF outpost, with a Khnum slowly advancing towards him. Sam arrives in the nick of time by slicing its head off with a snowmobile. Dmitry complains that this is non-standardized use of such a vehicle, prompting Sam to sing a verse from "Fly Me To The Moon", with 'Khnum' replacing 'Moon'. Dmitry doesn't get the joke, though, so Sam tries again with a different pun. After getting nothing but confusion from him, Sam gives up and simply asks Dmitry for directions to the battle, who points towards the big portal.[3] He wishes Dmitry a nice day, who replies that it is unlikely to be one. Afterwards Dmitry can be seen slowly walking to and entering a nearby building. He is not seen again afterwards.
Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem

Dmitry's complaints
Serious Sam 4
- "I would like to register test complaint to test system to register complain. This is test."
- ―Dmitry's first audio log
- "I would like to register complaint regarding system to register complaints, which is reminiscent of 21st century computer game audio log system. It is primitive way of communicating important information in crisis situation."
- ―Dmitry's second audio log
- "I would like to register complaint regarding complaints registered regarding my registering of complaints. Contrary to captain's opinion, it is not pedantry, but professionalism. If captain had listened, perhaps captain would not be dead."
- ―Dmitry's third audio log
- "I would like to register complaint regarding invasion of oil rig by alien forces. As sole security guard, I was not sufficiently equipped to handle situation. Requested minigun did not arrive, and tactical nuke was badly packaged."
- ―Dmitry's fourth audio log
- "I would like to register complaint regarding method of evacuation from doomed oil rig. Number of lifeboats is too small for number of theoretical survivors. Fact that I am only survivor is immaterial to subject of complaint. I head for refinery on mainland, but likely to capsize and drown."
- ―Dmitry's fifth and final audio log
Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem
- "I would like to register complaint regarding lack of Earth Defense Force presence at refinery, neglecting strategic importance of continued resource extraction during war. I have decided to personally address situation by joining EDF and petitioning for creation of committee to rectify issue."
- ―Dmitry's first audio log
- "I would like to register complaint regarding security situation at mainland refinery. I was not asked for identification upon arrival, as all security personnel are deceased. Also, scattered body parts are in violation of health code paragraph 5."
- ―Dmitry's second audio log
- "I would like to register complaint regarding spelling of my name in official documentation in likely case of my death at hands of alien invaders. Transliteration of Dmitry into English should use spelling with Y, not I, to prevent creation of inconsistency in historical record. Dmitri with I is name of my grandfather, as noted in previous complaint regarding transliteration of Russian names."
- ―Dmitry's third and final audio log
- "I am writing this note to remind owners of secret basement that leaving strategic supplies unattended in times of war is both negligent and inefficient. I will report this oversight to local authorities once I reach next military outpost. In the meantime, I suggest extended study of EDF Security and Camouflage Protocol #21b, with special attention to paragraphs V and VII."

Personality and skills

Dmitry appears to be a stubborn individual who rarely displays much emotion. He doesn't show general fear or panic, even when his life is in danger, such as when he was about to be killed by a Khnum.[3] He didn't retailate, and instead calmly backed away from the creature, although he was scared of being killed, until Sam coincidentally arrived just in time to save his life.[3]
As heard from his many audio logs, Dmitry has a tendency to complain about things. Examples include when enemy forces attacked the oil rig he was working at, a lack of EDF presence at the oil refinery to defend it from attack, when people spelt his name wrong, and even over miniscule things like abusing the complaints system that had been put in place.[1] He will also get frustrated occasionally when people didn't listen to his demands or complaints regarding a certain situation.
Dmitry's obsessive need to record complants didn't go unnoticed. Some of the employees working at the Thunderbird Oil Refinery couldn't stand his behavior, and one person described him as "narcissistic".[4]
Despite Dmitry's need to complain about certain things, he is very knowledgeable about EDF hints and protocols, which he picked up from reading training manuals. This has lead him to becoming very strategic, which would likely explain how has been able to avoid detection from Mental's forces and survive for so long compared to other soldiers.[5]
Relationships
Sam Stone
Their introduction was very brief and rather awkward, from both their perspeitives. When Sam saved Dmitry's life as he was about to killed, he tried his best to appease the situation by telling him a joke, though Dmitry was not amused and didn't quite understand what Sam was talking about. This response was enough for Sam to know that Dmitry has no sense of humor.[3]
