Ra

Character

Mummies rock! Woohoo!

Ra Neferhefu Saraoftonni Sereftefnefgeranebu (or simply Ra) is a 2,500 years old rich Egyptian mummy who studies at Scare School.

He is best friends with Casper and Mantha and forms a trio with them. He is a member of a royal family and the son of Neith and Khnum.

Like his friends, he is one of the kindest students in the school and is willing to help anyone.

He is also a constant target of jokes at school, so he is always trying to impress others to improve his social position.

Overall

Angry Ra

Ra is a member of a royal family of mummies and the son of the Queen and King, Neith and Khnum, whom he always goes out of his way to impress.

Ra was a newcomer to the Scare School during the events of the film, along with Casper and Mantha, who were also friendly and inexperienced in scaring. The three ended up befriending each other after meeting on the pirate ship. Throughout the film, Ra and Mantha help Casper look scary so he doesn't get into trouble with principals Alder and Dash and doesn't get banished to the Valley of the Shadows.

He is a constant target of teasing and jokes at Scare School because of his clumsiness and failed attempts to look cool, but he is always getting help from his best friends Casper and Mantha for whatever difficult situation he is going through.

After the events of the film, he and Mantha befriend Jimmy Bradley, Casper's human friend.

Appearance

Ra Promo Portrait

Ra is an Egyptian mummy with brown eyes, and, just like a typical mummy, has several bandages covering most of his body, leaving only his eyes and mouth exposed.

He claims that he has been wearing the same bandages for 2,500 years, which is probably why they look a bit dirty and worn.

He wears a dusty black beanie with a golden snake adornment, and a well-symbolized ancient Egyptian kilt in a light blue color with yellow edges. He also wears a golden medallion with scarab adornment.

In the movie, Ra's eyes were dark green and his bandages looked cleaner, as well as a much more vibrant and contrasting color. His clothes and accessories are the same, albeit with a orange color and a more visible reflection.

Personality

Ra Image 1

Ra is generally quite nice and friendly to everyone, even though he is constantly mocked by other students because of his somewhat clumsy manner.

Like Mantha and Casper, he is always willing to help and is very helpful to others, although for him it depends a lot on who the person is. He is also the most "rebel" in Casper's trio, often seen getting into trouble, just to look cool or funny, mainly to gain more respect from the other students, although this works sometimes, it always ends up having a non-successful ending for him. Many students treat him as useless, never wanting him around, although in these matters he is not as frowned upon as Pumpkimhead.

Despite having shown himself to be as smart a student as Casper or Mantha several times, getting good grades on most tests and assessments, except for science (which according to Mantha he has a five) and history, he can still be very easily tricked by others because of his innocence, such as when Thatch's gang pretends to be friends with him in "Rich Kid Ra" just to get his riches. In that same episode, he stopped being friends with Mantha and Casper who were trying to help him realize Thatch's lie, but he simply denies it and claims they are actually "jealous" and almost stops being their friend to siding with Thatch, which shows that he can also have a mean and ungrateful side at times.

His ideas of trying to impress others often end up going off the rails and being dishonest, such as when he shows off magical powers for the entire school when he was just having his body controlled by Casper, or when he pretends to be a "know-it-all", responding all the students' questions with the right answers, which he took from the school's oracle.

Aside from the students, he also cares a lot about impressing his parents, which is something he takes very seriously and feels more like an obligation and responsibility to be a member of a royal family, which often leaves him desperate and out of control, such as when he is looking for a girl to go with him to the dance but rejects several of them rudely because they are not "perfect" or not part of his tradition. Despite this, there are still times when he gets annoyed with them because of their commandments, such as when they forbid him to go on the field trip with the other students, which results in him tricking them into saying he would obey them, but ends up going without their permission.

Powers/Abilities

Ra does not have any powers, but he is shown to be very skilled when it comes to using the bandages on his body, being able to do many different tricks, such as a vine or a whip.

He is also shown to be a great dancer in the episodes "My Fair Harpy" and "Last Dance".

List of Appearances

Movie

Season 1

Season 2

Family

Ra comes from 532 generations of Pharaohs. ("Monster Catcher")

Neith and Khnum

Ra is the son of two real Egyptian mummies. They are very fond of their son, but they are also very demanding of his behavior and position as a royal mummy. Ra is always concerned about pleasing them and sometimes gets desperate to impress them, despite this, he disobeyed them once, in "Permission Impossible", where he fakes their permission to go on the school trip.

Mentuhotep

Mentuhotep is the great-great-grandfather of Ra, who lives in the Deedstown museum with other mummies. Ra seems to like him a lot, and constantly goes to the museum to visit him or get his help with some situation.

Relationships

Casper

Ra, like Mantha, is a very close friend of Casper's, even forming a trio with him and Mantha. Casper's friendship with Ra has proven to be much more positive than it was with Mantha; the two rarely get into any arguments or fights, although their friendship can go from good to neutral from time to time, notably when Casper and Mantha argue, he always takes Mantha's side.

In season 1, Casper is shown to have a great friendship and concern for Ra, and never gives up on helping him when he is going through trouble; a great example of this is in "The Ra-minator", where Casper supports Ra when he is feeling sad about the teasing he receives, and helps him impress the other students, even if it is to deceive, which shows how much he cares about him; In "Weekend at Bunny's", Ra, along with Mantha, helps Casper hide the invading rabbit from the school, even though he knows the danger he is in and the trouble that can happen.

Ra is always willing to help and support Casper in his difficult situations, and has proven to be as loyal a friend as Mantha is to him, and despite his clumsy ways, Casper always knows he can count on him. In "Rich Kid Ra", Casper realizes that Ra is being tricked by Thatch, who was pretending to be his friend to get his riches, and together with Mantha, tries to do everything possible to convince him of this, and forgives him after he apologizes for not believing them after finding out the truth.

In season 2, their friendship, although still positive in general, is somewhat average, because, due to Casper's mischievous behavior, he often has fun mocking Ra for his clumsiness and for the scares he easily gets, usually together with Mantha, who in a way had a more strained friendship with him than Ra in season 1; Ra, on the other hand, showed great respect for Casper in this season and even seems to admire him more, as when he lies saying that Casper knows a famous historical figure just to protect him from Thatch, although this obviously did not end well; Casper still forgave Ra.

Mantha

Mantha is probably Ra's best friend before Casper.

Ra and Mantha are always seen hanging out and having fun together, sometimes with Casper, sometimes without him, implying that she is a much closer friend to Ra than Casper is.

Mantha and Ra always count on each other's help, as in "Vote for Casper", where Ra agreed to side with Mantha for class president. The two also share some interests, such as liking the band My Chemistry Nightmare.

Although they are shown to be great friends, they still have several moments where they argue or have a falling out, as Mantha is constantly annoyed by Ra's clumsy behavior. Mantha also, like Casper, tries to act as a good influence on Ra, telling him what is the right thing to do.

In season 2, the two still remain good friends, however, as with Casper, Mantha's respect for Ra has slightly declined, as she is constantly seen mocking or laughing at Ra for being easily scared (usually along with Casper), even if they are always innocent, they often end up bothering Ra, in addition, Casper seems to replace Ra as Mantha's best friend, while Ra still treats his zombie friend well, although he can't resist making fun of her sometimes.

Harpy

Ra and Harpy 3

Harpy and Ra have had several interactions throughout the series. The two seem to be close friends, despite not being seen together very often. They also stand out as the only mythological creatures in the Scare School.

Their biggest interaction was in "My Fair Harpy", where Ra was looking for "the right girl" to go with him to the school dance and be his queen. Ra is at first confident that Harpy is a good choice after she accepts his request, but ends up disappointed when he starts rehearsing the dance steps with her, seeing that she doesn't have any dancing talents.

After Harpy finally learns to dance from Mantha's teachings, she overhears Ra's making negative comments about her to Casper, making her very sad.; Ra regrets what he said when he sees her crying outside the dorm and then goes to the school dance to apologize and just have fun with her, however, Harpy surprises Ra and the rest of the school with her new dance moves, with the two winning a dance competition against Thatch, as well as an award for the best dancers.

Jimmy Bradley

The relationship between Jimmy and Ra is very little explored, however, it is known that Ra is also a friend of Jimmy and also keeps his friendship with a human a secret.

In the episode "Jimmy Bradley: Creature Catcher", Ra's quickly comes to the conclusion that Jimmy is betraying him and his other friends when he sees him at his father's creature-catching job.

Mosshead

Ra Mosshead and Mantha

In episodes such as "The Ra-minator" and "Whiz Kid Ra", Mosshead began to appreciate Ra along with the rest of the school, believing that he had special abilities, although in the end he and the other students turned against him after the lie was revealed.

Ra does not seem to like Mosshead at all. In "Messy Business at the Manor", he reveals that he finds Mosshead very annoying, and along with Mantha, warns Casper about his vacation being ruined by him.

In "The Day The Professor Croaked", Ra, along with Casper and Mantha, promises not to tell anyone about Mosshead's pet, however, he still seems a bit upset about him in the gang, unlike Mantha and Casper. He also becomes disgusted with Mosshead after he wants to high-five him with a dirty hand.

In "The Bellyache Mystery", Ra, along with Pumpkinhead, try to use Mosshead as bait to get Quasi away from the Sea Monster.

Slither

Slither, like the rest of Thatch's gang (except Harpy), dislikes Ra and thinks he's a loser, however, he changed his opinion about him for a period of time in "The Ra-minator"; Slither first greets and high fives the mummy boy, then lets him sit in Thatch's seat in the cafeteria along with the rest of the gang. In the end, he finds out along with the rest of the school that Ra's "powers" were fake and returns to dislike him.

In "Whiz Kid Ra", it becomes even more evident that Slither really hates Ra and finds him annoying, since, in addition to tricking him along with the rest of the gang to get their riches, he still mocks him, first behind his back, and later for him.

Quasi

Quasi and Ra

Ra has had several minor interactions with Quasi. He was seen among the various students praising him in "The Ra-minator", albeit because of his various fake "cool moves" by Casper's help.

The same situation happens in "Whiz Kid Ra", where Quasi is again seen believing Ra's lie with the rest of the school, and even gives him his lunch in the cafeteria and thanking him for ridding the school of a punishment by the principals, later, when the lie is revealed, Quasi makes a negative comment about Ra's lie, but ends up forgiving him after an apology.

Triclops

Triclops and Ra never had any major interactions, though. In "The Ra-minator", she chooses Pumpkinhead over Ra to play on her team at the Scare Ball, and in "Last Dance", the two are paired up for the school dance, but Ra is seen with Mickey later on.

It can be assumed that they have a more average relationship.

Trivia

  • In "You Oughta be in Pictures", when Ra removes the bandages from his face for some humans, they are horrified, indicating Ra's appearance behind the bandages is likely some kind of corpse.
  • In "Crypt Critters", it is revealed that he has hair, although it has never been seen.
  • The only episodes that he and Mantha do not appear are "Shrinky Dust", "Ghost Writer", and "Ghost Magnet".
  • Ra's name is also a reference to the ancient Egyptian god, Ra. Ra was heavily associated with the sun and was a major figure in ancient Egyptian religion.
  • In "My Fair Harpy", Ra mentions that he "never got the chance to become king," which seems to imply that he experienced an unnatural death before being able to claim the throne.
  • Ra keeps his mummified guts in a jar. ("Little Dragon")
  • Ra also makes appearances in the franchise's released video games:
