Sophocles is a Trial Captain that specializes in Electric-type Pokémon. He appears in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon.
Appearance
Sophocles is a short, somewhat chubby boy with spiky orange hair and black eyes. He wears a white shirt with a design of an orange Game Boy Color on it and brown pants with orange cuffs. He also wears green shoes with blue soles and a yellow lightning design, a yellow scarf that resembles a Pikachu's tail, and a belt with a large buckle in the front. On his right hip, he wears a miniature Electrode keychain.
Personality
Etymology
The name Sophocles comes from "Sephora", a genus of trees and shrubs. The name also may be referring to the Greek tragedian Sophocles.
His Japanese name, Māmane, could come from 麻痺 (mahi, paralysis, which is often inflicted by Electric-type moves) and māmane (the Hawaiian name for the Sophora chrysophylla, a plant that is part of the Sophora genus).
Biography
Sun and Moon
Sophocles is the fifth Trial Captain and he is on Ula'ula Island. One has to go through a Pokémon sound test first with him before facing Totem Vikavolt. After that, he smiles and gives the Electruim Z after completing his trial. He is also Molayne's cousin, and the boss of Festival Plaza.
He, along with all the other Trial Captains and Kahunas, comes to the party celebrated by the player character for becoming a Champion. He is the first person to challenge the player character, if they battle the Elite Four a second time.
