Sy is a castaway within Pikmin 4. He can be found in several locations depending on the player's progression, but generally is found in caves. Sy is the youngest member of the Research Task Force recruits.

Story

Sy can be found in caves. Chet asks you to save him for the Side Mission "Precious Scientists."

Mechanics

Sy provides the four-step Side Mission "Researching Onions" and will reward the player 30 raw materials for each 2 Flarlics they collect, until you max out the number of Pikmin that can be in your squad. How awesome would it be to know how many Pikmin you can lead in your squad at once?! The more flarlic you collect, the closer we can get to finding the answer!

ID Badge

This environmentalist joined the team to research Pikmin ecology and decipher their mysterious relationship to whistles.

Dialogue

When interacting with the Player Character:

  • "According to Captain Olimar's Voyage Log, the Onion grows whenever you give it some flarlic. Interesting! Look out for whitish bulbs while you're out searching different areas!"
  • "Pikmin always come back to you when they hear you whistle. That means that Pikmin can identify certain sounds! If one were able to link specific sounds with Pikmin actions...you may find even more ways to control the Pikmin."
  • "When the Onion absorbs flarlic, it consistently increases the number of Pikmin that you can take out at once. Maybe the Onion is the one who determines what's possible and issues its own orders... Wouldn't that indicate that the Onion has a will of its own?"
  • "While exploring the different areas here, I got lost in my observations and forgot to check my space suit's battery. Then, before I had a chance to act, it went into forced-sleep mode..."
  • "Predators and prey. An ecosystem can't function properly, or even exist, without both. But you can't think of it as something sad or unfair. It's a natural give-and-take for them both."
  • "The Pikmin slide down from inside the Onion when you call for them from below. That would mean both the Onion and Pikmin can understand your call... That Onion must have some kind of thought process, then?"
  • "There's something I've come to realize while watching you interact with your cohort of Pikmin. They adore you! They must see you as a terrific and reliable leader."
  • "To be honest, I'd love to join you on your missions and investigate all the creatures I came here to see. But...I need to resist that urge. I can't risk going out there and getting into another accident. I don't want to be the cause of any more trouble."
  • "Your whistle technique is beyond impressive, 'Player Name.' Seems like you and the Pikmin have a really great relationship."
  • "That Onion is incredibly prolific after absorbing all that flarlic... Now I'd be extra tempted to give it even more flarlic—just to see what would happen, you know?"
  • "I was talking to Pitunia from the task force. She says the Onion may be artificial or was intentionally created somehow. But if the Onion's a living entity with its own will and needs, then doesn't that align with it being a natural specimen? Isn't it funny how two individuals can look at the exact same thing and have two entirely different perspectives?"

When interacting with Oatchi:

  • "Oh, I get excited whenever I see you too! Hey, you're a rare breed of dog, right?"
  • "Oatchi! Tell me, what's your planet's ecosystem like? Mm-hmm... Mm-hmm... I see. Unfortunately, I don't actually speak dog."
