Pitunia Observing Onion

Pitunia is a castaway within Pikmin 4. She can be found in a multitude of locations based on the player's progression. She is also a member of the Research Task Force.

Story

Pitunia can be found in caves. Chet asks you to save her for the Side Mission "Precious Scientists."

Mechanics

Pitunia provides the seven-step Side Mission of "Fusing Onions." This will reward the player with 10 raw materials for each Onion fused. Onions are fascinating! An Onion will fuse with other Onions, but it won't grow if it fuses with Onions of the same color. So I need you to find and collect Onions in all the different colors.

Dialogue

When interacting with the Player Character:

  • "Do you think my hypothesis that the Onion is a biocrafter is pretty wild? If you'll humor me for a moment, let's consider it together. Its symbiotic relationship with Pikmin doesn't appear coincidental. Durability and flight capability allow it to travel far. Its ejections and production adjustments of Pikmin seem calculated. All mechanics that fit the idea of intentional 'crafting.'"
  • "A moment, please. I must concentrate on observing the Onion."
  • "To Pikmin, the Onion is—to put it in terms of our understanding of biology—similar to the concept of a nest. But the fact that the Pikmin themselves are crafted by it far exceeds the function of a nest as we understand it."
  • "I'm quite eager to learn more about the environmental pressures that caused life here to evolve into its current forms."
  • "An Onion can craft different Pikmin based on what other Onions it has fused with. If we consider these blueprints for new Pikmin, it behaves like a crafter, right?"
  • "I joined the research task force so that I could compare and contrast the ways life has developed on different planets. By doing so, I thought I might gain a deeper understanding of the evolution of life on my own planet. In practice, however, it seems that life on this planet is very different from my own. Something I find extremely fascinating."
  • "Did you want to ask me something about my research? No? Then what could you possibly need?"
  • "There's a member of the task force I often discuss science with. You may have met him. The environment ecologist, Sy. He entered university at a very young age. Quite an impressive individual. He's also the youngest member of the research task force."
  • "The Onion is...a truly fascinating organism."
  • "Ah! You must want to ask about my research. Good, very good. I'm currently working on my hypothesis that the Onion is a biocrafter. The Onion is a biocrafter intentionally created to ensure the propagation and safety of the Pikmin, is it not? To verify this theory, I have dedicated myself to studying the Onion."

When interacting with Oatchi:

  • "I am deeply interested in your lineage. You simply have to let me research you! What? It's out of the question because you're on duty? That's a shame."
  • "You're quite the rare breed. How did the Rescue Corps end up with a dog like you?"

  • Pitunia can be seen in the background of the Pikmin 4 Trailer from Nintendo Direct 6.21.2023, making her the only civilian castaway to be seen before the demo.
