Ruby is a character in both Phoenotopia and Phoenotopia: Awakening. While she serves as the keeper of Daea's underground waterway in the original game, her role in the remake has changed completely and she now provides Gail with a few Side Quests instead.
Description
In Phoenotopia, Ruby is a girl who is mentioned by the Daea's locals about how she would enter the castle with alternate ways other than through the front gate. After asking around several places in the city, Ruby can at last be found in the underground waterway, subsequently giving players access to the Dungeon Hold since she has forgot to lock the door in the entrance.
In Phoenotopia: Awakening, Ruby has a more distinct appearance with orange hair in pigtails and a hairband with a pink flower on it. She also wears similar breastplate to that of a Crossbow Knight and presumably leather gloves and boots. Being quite adventurous, she wants to become a bounty hunter and later a knight.

Ruby is first encountered in the jail of Ouroboros Hideout. Turns out she too was after Birdy, but bounty hunting seems not to be the right job for her judging from where she ends up now. After freeing her by entering the password "green-purple-green" on the left and "purple-green-purple" on the right, she rewards player with a Heart Ruby for rescuing her.
Ruby is next found hiding inside a large crate in the Dungeons Hall A. During this second encounter, she tells her tale of trying to become a castle guard, which coincided with the brainwashing of the Castella Knights. She rewards player with a Moonstone for informing her that it is safe to head out.
Lastly, Ruby is seen captured along two other Castella Knights in the Last Wall. To prove to the stationed knights there that she is not suspicious and has never been brainwashed like other soldiers, Gail helps by retrieving Ruby's Diary for her, which explains her situation in detail. She rewards player with yet another Heart Ruby for her trouble, and decides to become a knight of the Last Wall to toughen herself.
Trivia
- Ruby in Phoenotopia shares the same character sprites with generic Daea females
- In an unused alternate design[1] of Ruby for Phoenotopia: Awakening, she is seen wearing a cooking pot as helmet, and armed with a wooden sword and much lighter armor instead
- While a much larger falchion is seen placed next to her final design in the same preview, Ruby is never seen carrying any sword in the final game
