Endings in Oxenfree II: Lost Signals

At the end of Oxenfree II: Lost Signals, there is a lockbox scene, which sees Alex sending a box of Riley's items to either her father or her son, Rex. Inside the box are important items belonging to Riley that she thought they might like, as Riley had an immense effect on a lot of people's lives. But, depending on the ending, the meaning behind certain items can change. Additionally, Riley's relationship with Violet and Charlie lead to different dialogue from Maria when Riley interacts with the radio on the left side of Camena's General Store.

Cassette

If Jacob does not enter the portal, he opens an art gallery called The Sasquatch. His success, however, depends on Riley's actions towards him.

A Perfect Day

Radio Host: Well, can you talk a little bit more about… your gallery? The Sasquatch?
Jacob: Sure. It used to be just my home office, really. The place I make my, uh, my art. But I, uh, decided to start opening it up to visitors a bit more, or anyone who wants to see. I… recently went through some stuff, and… I’ve just decided it’s time to start… letting more people in. I’d lived my life a certain way up until this point… pretty closed off, anxious… And, I don’t know… life’s just too short. Right?

The Bitter End

This ending is achieved by alienating Jacob, but bringing him back to Edwards Island:

Radio Host: Well, can you talk a little bit more about… your gallery? The Sasquatch?
Jacob: Sure. It used to be just my home office, really. The place I make my, uh, my art. But I, uh, decided to start opening it up to visitors a bit more, or anyone who wants to see. Not a lot of people. The hours are pretty strict. One afternoon a week… for now. I’d been pretty closed off until recently… but… I’ve learned that people just… are what they are. They come, they go. Life’s just too short to worry about it. Right?

A Purpose

On the contrary, if he gets sacrificed, Maria will talk about him:

Maria: —on the next track, yeah. Oh! This next one—this is about a local Camena legend, actually. There used to be this guy… his name was Jack, I think, maybe, but he was a sculptor. Made stuff out of junk. He lived in a cabin out by Berenson Creek. He vanished… this part’s true—he disappeared several years ago, left his dog to a friend. And people say if you walk through the woods at just the right time of night… you can hear his voice on certain radio stations. Creepy, right? Anyways, the song is called "Disenfranchised" and it’s by our favorites here, the—

Cell Phone

New Friend, New Journey

  • If the player chooses to sacrifice Olivia, and befriends both Violet and Charlie, they will hear the following call:

Violet: Do you still think about Olivia?
Charlie: Uh. Yeah. All the time.
Violet: Yeah. Me, too.
Charlie: What, uh, what do you think about?
Violet: Oh, just… everything, I guess. Was it a good thing… that Riley let her go? If she’s happy where she is? If she’s even… anywhere?
Charlie: Riley says she’s probably happy. She saw memories of Olivia… when everything was going on. She says she picked her for a reason. That… she deserved to go.
Violet: I’m just glad Riley was there. So she wasn’t alone.
Charlie: [sigh] Yeah. Me, too.

  • If the player chooses to sacrifice Olivia, and befriends Violet, but not Charlie, they will hear the following voicemail:

Violet: Hey. Charlie. It’s Violet. Again. I— [big sigh] I just don’t know why we can’t talk about what happened. We’re the only ones that remember! It’s just you and me and Riley, Charlie, and—and Riley’s been… good for this. Like, good for this stuff. We talk like once a month, and I know that annoys you, but it’s a help… just to talk to somebody that went through it, too. Olivia—Olivia did what she had to do and—and I know you liked her or whatever, but… I don’t know. I miss my friend. I miss you. I know you miss her. It just—this wasn’t a dream. We didn’t hallucinate this. It’s just important that you know that. Call me. Please.

A Friend Found, A Friend Lost

  • If the player chooses to sacrifice Olivia, and befriends Charlie, but not Violet, they will hear the following call:

Violet: Hello?
Charlie: Violet? Don’t hang up.
Violet: Charlie, c’mon—I don’t want to talk about it!
Charlie: Hey, I’m just the messenger, here— Riley’s been trying to reach out to you and she says you’ve been dodging her calls.
Violet: Why on Earth would I ever want to talk to that woman?
Charlie: Because it’s good to talk to somebody who went through what we did! I—I know things have felt like… a dream, with what happened. With Olivia.
Violet: Charlie, I’m hanging up.
Charlie: Wait!
Violet: I wish I could just take everything back—everything I ever said about wanting to do it. Just… just don’t call me again. I’m—my family’s moving away, anyway.
Charlie: Violet…
Violet: Don’t call, Charlie. I mean it.

Lonely Light of Planetshine

  • If the player chooses to sacrifice Olivia, but does not befriend Charlie nor Violet, they will hear the following voicemail:

Violet: Hey. Charlie. It’s Violet. Again. I— [big sigh] I just don’t know why we can’t talk about what happened. We’re the only ones that remember! Olivia—Olivia did what she had to do and—and I know you liked her or whatever, but… I don’t know. I miss my friend. I miss you. I know you miss her. It just—this wasn’t a dream. We didn’t hallucinate this. It’s just important that you know that. Call me. Please. [quiet] God, I wish I never moved to this crap town.

New Beginnings

  • If the player chooses to sacrifice Jacob, and befriends both Violet and Charlie, they will hear the following voicemail:

Violet: Olivia, are you there? No? Okay… Look, I’m sorry… things didn’t go the way you had hoped they would go. I know you miss your parents. I know you miss… everything about your old life. Riley’s been… asking about you. About how you’re doing. I used to have a lot of… anger towards you… for the nightmares, but… She’s been a really good shoulder during all of this.
Charlie: Is she there?
Violet: No, I’m leaving a message. Charlie’s here, too. We’re both worried about you. We’re going on a hike Sunday with Riley and were wondering if you were in town for the break? You could meet up with us? Like old times? [sigh] I hope you get this, Olivia. Please. Call me back.

Bloom and Grow

  • If the player chooses to sacrifice Jacob, and befriends Violet, but not Charlie, they will hear the following voicemail:

Violet: Olivia, are you there? No? Okay… Look, I’m sorry… things didn’t go the way you had hoped they would go. I know you miss your parents. I know you miss… everything about your old life. Riley’s been… asking about you. About how you’re doing. I used to have a lot of… anger towards you… for the nightmares, but… She’s been a really good shoulder during all of this. We’re the only ones that remember, Olivia, we should talk about this. It helps. Anyways. I know you live like three states away, now, but we can still talk. Oh, and I was wondering if you’ve heard from Charlie? I can’t get a hold of him, either. Please. Call me back.

Better Things Ahead

  • If the player chooses to sacrifice Jacob, and befriends Charlie, but not Violet, they will hear the following voicemail:

Violet: Hey. OIivia. Don’t know if you’ll ever get this. Don’t care, either, really. This is just for me. I hate what you put us through. I hate thinking about that night. I hate the nightmares I still have. I hate that you made Charlie like you… even though you’re not worth liking. I hate that you moved away and I don’t get to tell this to your ugly face. I hate you. And Charlie won’t admit it, but you ruined his life, too. I’m just glad he has Riley to talk this stuff out with, or else he’d be going insane. Like I am. Hope you have a terrible time and a worse life wherever you end up. You deserve it.

All The Lonely People

Letter

If the player chooses Jacob or Olivia to enter the portal, Alex will write a letter to Rex:

So. That’s all of it, then.

Mr. Poverly… your daughter… is a complicated person. Like all of us—like everybody.

I used to really not appreciate my stepfather. And there was a time that I hated even the concept… of having a stepbrother. Relationships are hard—even the ones that are supposed to be easy—supposed to be… ingrained. I don’t really know what I expect you to do with all this.

But just know that your daughter isn’t just your daughter. She’s not just the person who… you raised—who left. Who… maybe didn’t end up being the person you wanted her to be. She’s a person that… had a life. And that life had a lot of branches to it. But you and her—those are her roots. And I think no matter where she is… she’ll always remember that.

Alright. I think that’s it.
Oh, and uh… stay off the radio.

Alex

On the contrary, if Riley sacrifices herself, Alex will write to Mr. Poverly, Riley's dad:

So. That’s all of it, then.

Rex… your mom… is a complicated person.

But just know that your mom isn’t just your mom. She’s not just the person who you… maybe… think failed you. She’s a person that… has a life. And that life has a lot of branches to it. And she cares about you, Rex. You were the future she didn’t want to lose. And no matter what you think of her… remember that.

Alright. I think that’s it.
Oh, and uh… stay off the radio.

Maria's broadcast

Before the lockbox scene, Riley will be able to explore Camena one last time. On the left side of the General Store, there is a radio sitting on a stone wall, which can be used to listen to different stations. If the player tunes to 88.1 (Camena Highschool Radio Station), Maria will broadcast a message to Riley before switching back to the scheduled program.

Maria: —Bedwetters, which… I don’t know if we’re going to be allowed to play that anymore, sorry, Ren. Uh, once again, here’s a very special shout-out, tonight, for—and boy I really hope you’re listening—to Riley Poverly. Riley Poverly, are you out there? Hope so!

  1. If Riley has befriended both Violet and Charlie, Maria says:

Maria: Cause, uh, your good pals Violet and Charlie say, “Sorry for almost erasing you from existence! On your way out of town, go to the Pancake Mill and Charlie’s sister will give you a free OJ.” She’s—he’s talking about Cynthia—she’s very sweet. Let’s keep it going with the tunes.
