Appearance

Zelus was an Inkling girl with red tentacles, red ink color, light skin, and has black sclera with red iris. She wears a Blowfish Bell Hat, Black Inky Rider, and Blue Sea Slugs.

Before she turned evil, she had purple eyes.

Personality

Being part of the scrapped characters in OnyxKing’s computer for a year, Zelus had become malevolent, vengeful, hateful, and manipulative, successfully managing to hack into SMG4’s computer and escape from it.

One of the more defining traits of hers is her envy at Meggy. She despised greatly at how Meggy can ultimately become her own character while she's stuck as an Inkling OC. This is one, if not the main, fuel for her revenge against OnxyKing not developing her character beyond what she can become.

She's also a hypocrite. While she made a good point that OnyxKing abandoned her, after she finally made herself physical, she chose to spite OnyxKing and envy Meggy rather than trying to make a name for herself. This also shows her lack of drive beyond her common goals.

History

Background

Zelus was an original Splatoon character created by OnyxKing67. But one year ago, when OnyxKing discovered that SMG4 has uploaded a new video called "If Mario Was in... Splatoon" featuring his OC, Meggy Spletzer. She became part of his scrapped characters, which drove her mad.

• She mirrors Meggy in how they developed. Meggy became a fully-fledged out character who's more than just a Splatoon Inkling OC and ultimately, turns into an original character entirely. On the other hand, Zelus was barely utilized and never developed, and ultimately, stuck as a Splatoon OC.
  • Zelus's envy at Meggy is further emphasized in "Mario's Jumpscare Mansion!!", where during the flashback scene, she punches her TV out of spite due to how Meggy developed into her own character while she's stuck as an Inkling.
  • In the biggest sense of irony, Zelus was abandoned by OnyxKing because of how she might become unoriginal and get OnyxKing accused of ripping off SMG4's Meggy. Yet after Zelus makes herself real, she ends up ripping off stories from SMG4's Waluigi Arc (brainwashing an army of innocents into their own army) and the second half of the Anime Arc (kidnapping many Inklings for selfish purposes).
• Zelus serves as a massive foil to Desti.
  • Both of them perceive Meggy as their rivals. However, Desti overcame that toxic connection and ultimately developed a friendlier relationship with Meggy while Zelus digs deeper to such hate despite never meeting her personally and ended up never growing her character. These make Desti standing out on her own while Zelus being defined by the very person she despises.
  • Both died in story arcs. But while Desti died tragically yet gracefully and with dignity, Zelus died pathetically without any recompense to her personal story. And while Desti is still remembered fondly, Zelus had caused negative memories to the world after her death, as shown with Peach installing extensive security in "Spider Infestation!".
• Zelus is actually also the name of a Greek deity Zelus/Zelos who personifies dedication, emulation, eager rivalry, envy, jealousy, and zeal. These characteristics fit Zelus' own character.
