R is a character in Alphablocks. She is voiced by Teresa Gallagher.

Appearance 

R is a cherry red Alphablock with upturned black eyes and button nose.

She uses dark crimson lipstick and wears a black pirate hat with an Alphablock skull symbol on it and a red stripe in its base. She also wears a garnet eyepatch covering her right eye.

Personality 

R is an impulsive, sassy, swashbuckling Alphablock. She loves acting like a pirate.

Besides all of this, she's also sort of insecure. The episode Map is a perfect example of this, where W and Y make her doubt of being a real pirate.

R seems to get along very well specially with T, S, and D, sharing endearing scenes with both of them.

Despite her rough side she also has a soft and kind side, like in Why, where, together with T, she tries to cheer Y up.

Trivia

• Her design is probably based on a pirate because a pirate says "arrr".
• In the episode Map, it's revealed that she has both her eyes, which seems to reference real life. The reason pirates wore eyepatches was to get one of their eyes used to being covered so that it could see in the dark.
• She is the third or fourth Alphablock to lack eyebrows.
  • However, sometimes she is seen with eyebrows.
• When R is connected to a vowel, she does not get vowel stripes, just like W, but unlike Y.
• Despite Alphablock R constantly saying /err/, the sound for the letter 'r' is more like /rh/ or /ruh/. To try it for yourself, say a word that begins with 'r' (like 'rug') and stop immediately after saying /r/.
  • R sounding like "er" is an often error in phonics shows and programs, so watch out for that.
  • When 'r' follows a vowel, or its sound, /r/, is at in the end of r-controlled vowels, like 'ar' /ar/, the 'r' is a vocalic 'r'. This is contrary to an r in the beginning of a word of after a consonant ('drag'). The 'r' would be prevocalic.
