“ | W-w-w-WAAAAAAAAAH! | ” |
— various episodes, and also the UK/Canadian dub of Alphablocks A-Z |
W is a character in Alphablocks.
W is voiced by Lizzie Waterworth.
Appearance
W is a dark-blue block with his glass cap filled with water. He has slightly bigger and wider eyes compared to the other Alphablocks, similar to N’s eyes; except less grumpy and more sad looking.
Personality
W is a soft tender guy, and can get easily offended. W's main shtick is that he cries easily, and he is prone to whining or weeping a lot when he is hurt or upset. W is also quite curious, as he is known to ask a lot of questions. When he gets hurt or upset, he cries; making his sound. “/w/!”

Trivia
- He's the only Alphablock whose top is filled with tears, and the only Alphablock whose name is more than 1 syllable, his name has 3.
- X is W's idol, as seen in Web.
- His name starts with a d-sound ("double-u" or /dʌb'əl-ju:/).
- The girl who voiced him also voiced O, making them her only male roles.
- Just like his best friend Y, W is voiced by a girl. (That being Lizzie Waterworth)
- Additionally, W and Y are semivowels, meaning they are sometimes vowels, and sometimes consonants. However, when W is part of a vowel digraph (AW, EW, or OW), he doesn't gain stripes, unlike Y.
- This might be an error, or an intentional choice due to the fact W doesn't have a vowel sound by himself.
- It could also be that BlueZoo doesn‘t know that W is a semivowel, since it generally isn‘t considered one nor is it taught to be in schools.
- A common reason could be that for Phonics and other reading programs, the definition of a "vowel letter" is a letter that can stand for a vowel sound on its own. While 'y' can stand for /i:/ /aɪ/, and /ɪ/ on its own, 'w' requires other preceding vowels to stand for vowels sounds. This is most likely while most reading programs don't consider 'w' as a vowel.
- Additionally, W and Y are semivowels, meaning they are sometimes vowels, and sometimes consonants. However, when W is part of a vowel digraph (AW, EW, or OW), he doesn't gain stripes, unlike Y.
- When W is part of a digraph, the water in his head doesn't go to the other Alphablock for some reason, which is physically impossible.
- He sounds similar to Indigo, despite them being voiced by two different people.
- He is the last Alphablock to lack eyebrows.
- Despite his name pronounced "double U" (/dʌb'əl-ju:/), he has no significant relationship with U.
