White Axl (白いアクセル Shiroi Akuseru),[1] labeled as ??? in-game, is an unnamed upgrade for Axl in Mega Man X8. It was said to have been acquired after the battle with Lumine on the Moon.[2] When equipped with this white armor, Axl can hover indefinitely while shooting, his ground dash is longer and faster, and he can maintain A-Trans forms for an unlimited amount of time.
Unlocking
This armor may be unlocked in one of two ways:
- Purchase all of Axl's personal Chip upgrades. Then Axl has to deal the final blow on Lumine (Double Attack is not necessary in this case, but Axl must be the one that defeats him) before saving into a New Game Plus. Once this is done, White Axl will be immediately available for selection. Unlocking the rest of Axl's chips in New Game+ will also immediately unlock him if he finished off Lumine.
- On the PS2 and Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 versions of the game, a code must be entered at the title screen while "Press Start" is flashing. If inputted correctly, Axl's voice can be heard saying "I'll take care of it", confirming the code. The player must then choose either Normal or Hard mode.

Trivia
- Contrary to popular belief, White Axl doesn't entirely lose the scar from his face; rather, it becomes faded and difficult to see.
- Given how White Axl's color scheme resembles Lumine, and the fact that he gained this form after the battle on the Moon, it is speculated that the shard of Lumine implanted into Axl's crystal caused this armor. However, this has not been explicitly confirmed and the shard has yet to be explained.
