Sentsuizan

Sentsuizan (旋墜斬 "Whirling Crash Slash"), is the special technique that Zero learns after defeating Ground Scaravich in Mega Man X6.

Description

When pressing UP on the D-pad and the attack button while airborne, Zero dives downward at a sharp angle with this Z-Saber drawn, which upon touching the ground, will cause the screen to shake, after which, Zero then performs a horizontal circular slash in the same manner as Shippuuga from Mega Man X4. There is no way to cancel out of the attack in the middle of its execution. This technique can be used to move or destroy the Nightmare Cubes that may be present in Metal Shark Player or Shield Sheldon's stages. Zero also gains invincibility frames until touching the ground.

Sentsuizan is the weakness for Blaze Heatnix and Sigma's final form.

Caution must be taken with Sentsuizan when the player must use ropes to progress through stages, especially in areas with bottomless pits or spikes, because if the player tries to attack with the Z-Saber and presses UP on the D-Pad while trying to hook on to the rope, Zero will automatically plunge himself into the pit/spikes, resulting in an instant death.

Fighting games

Sentsuizan also appears in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 as one of Zero's special moves done only in midair, where he dives downward at an angle pointed-downward (via his whole body) as he holds out his saber, Though in both versions of Marvel vs. Capcom 3, the Sentsuizan can be slightly steered to either quicken it or slow it down. The Ultimate version makes the Heavy version go less steeper. The Light version is a fake-out where Zero will briefly draw his saber while halting himself in the air, then re-holstering it before being about to perform any air actions once more. In both games, Zero causes his target to stagger upon connecting the move.

In Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, releasing a maxed-out Hyper Zero Blaster charge during the move will have Zero cancel into an F-Splasher.

Trivia

  • In Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, despite technically being the same move, the Shippuuga was somehow rendered into a command move whereas the Sentsuizan is a special move. This also applies to Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.
  • Despite the name of the move, in its TvC, MvC3 and MvCI appearances, Zero does not perform any turning/spinning motion at all during the attack.
  • Interestingly enough, the Weapon screen says it is performed by pressing DOWN on the D-Pad and the attack button, when that is how the Ensuizan attack is performed. However, this is only the case in the overseas releases of the game, as the Japanese version has the correct input.
