Hyouretsuzan

"Down + S.M. button while jumping. A dive attack. Effective against surface enemies."
―In-game text, Mega Man X4

Hyouretsuzan (氷烈斬 lit. "Ice Fury Slash"), is the special technique that Zero learns after defeating Frost Walrus in Mega Man X4.

Description

This technique is based on Frost Walrus's ability to create & drop icicles from the ceiling. By pressing DOWN on the D-pad and the S.M. button while airborne, Zero turns the blade of his Z-Saber into ice and performs a downward thrust with it. Once Zero hits the ground while performing this technique, the blade will shatter.

Like some of his other techniques, Hyouretsuzan is capable of inflicting tremendous amount of damage as it can strike multiple times. Zero can double jump out of a Hyouretsuzan, and even do a second one without landing. Like Frost Tower, Hyoretsuzan also can be use to freeze the lava and flaming rocks on Magma Dragoon's stage.

Hyouretsuzan causes a weakness reaction against Jet Stingray, and is very effective against Colonel and Sigma's disfigured head form in the final battle against him.

  • Mid-bosses such as Tentoroid and DG-42L and some bosses do not have an invincibility period when struck, so Hyouretsuzan can deal a tremendous amount of damage as it can inflict multiple hits. Damages listed on this chart is damage dealt per hit, not the total amount of damage done.

Other game appearances

  • Hyouretsuzan appears in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, via releasing a maximum Hyper Zero Blaster-stored-charge during Ryuenjin.
  • Hyouretsuzan, alongside Ryuenjin, is one of Zero's skills in Shironeko Project. When used, Zero rises with Ryuenjin, causing fire damage and having a chance to burn enemies, then falls with Hyouretsuzan, causing water damage and having a chance to freeze enemies.
  • Hyouretsuzan is one of the techniques used by Black Zero during the X Challenge. He also uses the move as part of a combo with either Ryuenjin or Kuuenzan.

Hyouretsuzan

In the Rockman X4 manga, when Zero's old friend Colonel launches a fateful, violent uprising for Reploid independence for the Repliforce after the organization was ordered to be disarmed and temporarily disbanded for suspicion of Maverick activity, Zero is forced to fight against him. After meeting at the tree where they had spoken years prior, they engage in combat. After trading blows with the Colonel, Zero attempts to use the Hyouretsuzan attack to disable him. However, the skilled Repliforce commander is able to dodge the attack and avoid some serious damage.
