Rakuhouha

"Giga attack button on the ground. The ultimate special attack that channels all stored energy into one blast. Use this move selectively as it consumes energy."
―In-game text, Mega Man X4

Rakuhouha (落鳳破 lit. "Falling Feng Crush"), is the special technique that Zero learns after defeating Cyber Peacock in Mega Man X4.

Description

This technique is based off Cyber Peacock's ability to shoot energy beams in half-circular pattern from the feathers on his tail. It is activated by pressing the Giga Attack button while on the ground. Zero will cry "Get ready!" before slamming his fist to the ground, causing nine bolts of destructive energy to erupt in a fanned out manner. The projectiles are not only capable of going through walls - coupled with the fact that there are nine of them, providing a decent range - but they are also capable of destroying most enemies in one hit. Zero is invincible while performing the attack.

Rakuhouha is Zero's only technique in Mega Man X4 that has its own energy gauge. Because Rakuhouha is powerful and has excellent range that surpass any of Zero's moves alone, it can only be used sparingly as it depletes 12 units (6 units in Rookie Hunter mode) of energy per use. It recharges when Zero takes damage.

This attack is Storm Owl and Sigma's (2nd phase) weaknesses.

Other appearances

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Rakuhouha appears in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite as one of Zero's new moves, where Zero will unleash three green projectiles in an array forward upon punching the ground in front with his following fist. This is performed upon releasing his max level Hyper Zero Blaster shot during a Hadangeki.

TEPPEN

Rakuhouha is one of Zero's Hero Arts in TEPPEN, causing 4 damage split among enemy units. The damage increases depending of the level of Zero's Memory, causing up to 12 damage split among enemy units.

Mega Man X DiVE

In Rockman X DiVE, Rakuhouha is one of Zero's skills.

Shironeko Project

Rakuhouha is one of Zero's skills. It causes non-elemental damage to nearby enemies and has a chance to temporarily stop targets. Rakuhouha also heals and removes negative statuses effects from Zero and, for one minute, halves the damage he takes and leaves him immune to negative statuses.

Rockman X4 (manga)

Zero using Rakuhouha X4 manga

In the Rockman X4 manga, Zero goes and attacks the Repliforce train of sub-commander Slash Beast in order to retrieve a vaccine in his possession that would cure Iris, who had been infected from a computer explosion caused by Cyber Peacock. On the train, after rampaging his way through some enemies, Zero eventually uses the Rakuhouha attack to destroy part of the train. This leaves the Repliforce soldiers who were following him unable to pursue him as he heads to confront Beast.

Trivia

  • The term "feng" (鳳, pronounced as "fuh-ng") is used as a term for a male Chinese firebird, often mistranslated as a phoenix.
  • Via its appearance in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, this is one of Zero's few full-screen attacks that is converted into a simple special move.
