Seaslug, known in Japanese as Sakekasu (サケカース Sakekāsu), is a recurring character from the Medabots series.
Description
Seaslug is the dimwitted and immature leader of the Rubberobo Gang. He is the "commander" and the one with the most authority of the four main leaders. Though his intelligence is lacking when compared with Shrimplips, Gillgirl and Dr. Meta-Evil, he is a man of action, and is usually the one most capable of carrying out the schemes of his genius comrades. Though far from an evil mastermind, he has proven himself to have some genuinely evil qualities, such as a maniac laugh, a sadistic streak, and cowardly tactics. Despite this, he occasionally shows moments of being a good person in moments of genuine kindness, even to the point he briefly considered leaving the Rubberrobo Gang for the sake of Miss Caviar, the only person to ever show him genuine love.
In the games
Medarot 2 and Medabots (GBA)
Seaslug kidnapped Hanamura, the principal from Rosewood Private School, and disguised as him to deceive and convince kids like Hachiro to misbehave and steal Medals as part of a training to make them join the Rubberobo Gang in the future. Ikki Tenryou uncovered his plan and stopped him. Later, inside the Rubberobo Gang hideout, he took a Medal from Erika or Karin (depending on which the player built a higher affection) and threatened to throw it on a pond of acid if Ikki approached. The Phantom Renegade appears and drops Seaslug on the pond without knowing of the Medal or the acid, but as nothing happened to him, Seaslug reveals that it is actually carbonic acid (soda water), his hobby being bathing on it, and he has a Robattle with Ikki. After the battle, Seaslug escapes and the Phantom Renegade chases him, and Ikki recovers the Medal in the pond.
In the Kabuto/Metabee version, he mainly uses Shamen, a mage-type Medabot. He also has a Krosserdog and a Mantaprey.
In the Kuwagata/Rokusho version, he uses three Chimerators, a Chimera type, each with a Phoenix Medal.
Medarot 3
He appears near the end of the game using Dura-Horse.
Medarot 4
He appears in the Umineko Royal Hotel and uses Dura-Horse.
Medabots AX
Seaslug has a Mega-Emperor as his main Medabot, and he also has a Medabot with Belzelga's head, Nin-Ninja's arms, and Mega-Emperor's legs.
Medabots Infinity
He has Boarbooster, a wild boar type Medabot.
Medarot Dual
He appears in the DLC Missions with a Turbulent.
Medarot S: Unlimited Nova
In the first part from the main story he is fought in chapter 12 with a Whitesword (with Dragon Medal) and in chapter 22 with a Robo-Emperor (Fire Medal). He is fought alongside a Bass-Troyer (Marine Medal) and Sharkkan (Snake Medal) in the first battle, and a Phoenix (Fire Medal) and Whitesword (Dragon Medal) in the second. He also appears in other stories.
In the retelling of Medarot 2 he is fought on chapters 6, 7, and 12. His main Medabot is a Shamen with a Dragon Medal, and he is accompanied by Krosserdog (Dragon Medal) and Chimerator (Samurai Medal). In this version he takes the Medal from Karin.
He is also available as a Medafighter equipment.
In the anime

In the anime, his real name is "Seamore Slugbottoms" (Sakenosuke Kasukabe in Japanese), and his main Medabot is Whitesword. Masquerading in one episode as the shy "Mr. Tunahead" (Narazuke in Japanese), he also found love in the form of Medabot Corporation employee Miss Caviar, whom he later abandoned due to a misunderstanding. Unwilling to give up conquering the world, he was the only Rubberobo left after they disbanded at the end of the anime, and as Miss Caviar could not convince him to change his ways, she joined his side as the evil Miss Starfish, and the two newlyweds were last seen setting out to open their own supervillain consulting agency.
Etymology
- His English name is a combination of the words sea and slug.
- His Japanese name appears to be derived from sake kasu, a cooking ingredient made with the lees (residual yeast and other precipitates) of sake that is used as a marinade base in different Japanese dishes, such as fish, vegetables, and meat, giving them a taste similar to sake. Besides the beverage, the Japanese word sake also has other meanings, such as salmon.
- Of the four leaders, his Japanese name is the only that is not written like a real food as sake kasu does not have a chōonpu, while his English name is the only where both words together form something that exists, a sea slug.
- His alias, Mr. Tunahead, is a combination of tuna and head.
- Narazuke is a variation of Kasuzuke, a Japanese dish made by pickling fish or vegetables in sake kasu.
Trivia
- In a recurring gag in the anime, whenever Seaslug proves overly annoying, a sign depicting Mr. Referee appears asking the audience to stand by, followed by the sound of Seaslug screaming in terror. Once the screen is lifted, Seaslug has been replaced with a Teddy Bear, to the horror of those nearby.
