Solar Specs is sixth episode from the second season of Krypto the Superdog. It was originally aired in the United States on 1st May 2006.

Summary

Mechanikat blocks out the yellow rays of the sun with his new satellite, creating red light instead. When Krypto and Streaky become powerless, Stretch-O-Mutt has to save the day.

Plot

Stretch-O-Mutt gets up and notices the daylight is oddly red and the sun’s sudden addition of sunglasses . A moment later, he notices Krypto and Streaky running past him. He transforms his appearance into his heroic form, then he meets with Krypto and Streaky, who are still running. It turns out they are being chased by the Catbots. Stretch-o helps them in dispatching Mechanikat's minions. Krypto explains that the red light is rendering Krypto and Streaky powerless. In the middle of Metropolis, the heroes spot Snooky standing near his spaceship. They develop a plan with Stretch shapechanging into a Catbot and bringing Krypto and Streaky to Snooky, so that he would take them to Mechanicat. Snooky gets fooled by the plan easily and takes the heroes to Mechanikat, as planned.

The feline arch-villain, accompanied by Delilah, meets with Snooky and the heroes in the landing bay of his newest invention - The Solar Specs Space Station. Stretch-o remains undetected and is told to take the captives to the cells. Once in the corridor, Stretch-O-Mutt morphs into his regular shape. The heroes decide to split up and investigate, what happened. Streaky is skeptical about the idea.

Stretch-o is travelling around the corridor and elects to examine a marked room. He has apparently discovered Delilah's private bedroom. When he is done looking around, the room's occupant comes by, complaining about Snooky's latest success and Snooky winning the latter's favor. Stretch morphs into a chair before Delilah could spot him. She sits on him, not being aware od and intruder inside her bedroom, and starts to improve her makeup. She takes too much powder and sneezes. Stretch helps her against sneezing, which makes her suspicious. When Agent 9L leaps off Stretch and sets a combat pose, Stretch changes his shape into Mechanikat, then he introduces himself as such. Delilah is beguiled effectively, even despite Stretch-Mechanikat keeps calling her "Deborah". Snooky interrupts the dialouge by entering Delilah's bedroom. He is amazed that his and Delilah's leader has visited the latter in her bedroom, so he asks "Mechanikat" if he decided to tell Delilah the news personally.

Stretch-O-Mutt has no idea about those news the real Mechanikat was to tell Delilah, so he presses on Snooky while Delilah remains puzzled. After a considerable argument, Snooky finally gives in and reveals the plan to celebrate victory with a feast. Delilah cannot believe this was the top secret message. Stretch in Mechanikat's form leaves Delilah's room excusing himself he has other things to handle. Delilah notices the one, who looks like Mechanikat, has been acting strangely, but Snooky does not seem to care about this.

Back in the ship corridor, Stretch-O-Mutt transforms into his regular form and finds another room. This time the interior is dark bluish and arranged for self-sustenance. Looking around is interrupted by the real Mechanikat, who steps in complaining about the burdens of being a villain. Stretch avoids detection by shapeshifting into a jukebox while Mechanikat is having a drink from his personal fridge. The feline arch-villain of the cartoons elects to turn on "the radio" nearby. Stretchy feels tickled, so he laughs when Mechanikat is trying to set the frequency. Miraculously, he doesn't get detected, so he tries to sing twice, though not pleasantly for ears. After two attempts, Mechanikat "sets the frequency" to sports and he gets poorly imitated sport event transmission. At the same time, Delilah approaches Mechanikat and reports about the progress. Mechanikat forgets about "the jukebox he never had", so Stretch-o-Mutt can slide away, morph into Snooky, and beguile the cats. He does so quite rashly, that Delilah is scared. When she calms down, she notices that the one, who looks like Snooky, looks bulkier than normally. "Snooky" tries to lie about exercising at the gym. Delilah is suspecting something, but Mechanikat does not seem to care about Snooky's body shapes. He takes Delilah and Stretch-O-Mutt in Snooky's form into the bridge.

It turns out that Mechanikat has built a satellite intended to reverse the sun rays color into red, so it can render Krypto and Streaky helpless, therefore allowing Mechanikat the conquest of Earth. Before the device is turned on, real Snooky Wookums appears on the bridge with two Catbot guards and he asks, why are Mechanikat and Delilah starting the plan without him. The remaining cats glare at Stretch-O-Mutt in Snooky's form, who shapeshifts into his true shape. Mechanikat orders his robotic minions to seize the intruder. Stretch transforms into a ball and tricks the two Catbots into smashing the station’s control panel Thrus disabling the red tint making the sun yellow again.

Stretch gets caught by remaining Catbots, but before Mechanikat can get even, Krypto and Streaky with regained powers appear in time and complete the destruction. The feline villains attempt to flee to the escape pods on the board of Mechanikat's ship, but they get trapped inside Stretch-O-Mutt, who has shapeshifted into one of those vehicles.

Streaky and Krypto congratulate Stretch-O-Mutt, on capturing Mechanikat, and his goons, who are struggling to escape. The episode ends.
