Yuta (Korean: 유타; Japanese: ユウタ) is a Japanese singer, rapper and actor under SM Entertainment. He is a member of the boy group NCT and its sub-units NCT 127 and NCT U.
He made his Japanese solo debut on October 3, 2024 with the mini album Depth.
Early life
He was born on October 26, 1995 in Osaka, Japan. In Japan, he attended Yashima Gakuen High School. He has two siblings, one older sister and one younger sister. It is said his family still resides in Osaka. He admires his father the most.[citation needed]
As a child, he always liked playing sports and was especially fond of soccer. He started learning how to play soccer at the age of five and played until he was 16. He initially dreamed of becoming a professional player.[1]
Career
Pre-debut
He tried out at the 7th Open Audition in Osaka, Japan that SM held to seek talented young people. Though he was attending high school at that time, he left high school and moved to Seoul, South Korea. On December 23, 2013, he, along with Johnny and Ten, was introduced as an SM Entertainment trainee under the pre-debut team SMROOKIES.[2]
As an SM Entertainment trainee, he appeared on the talk show Non-Summit (Also known as Abnormal Summit) regularly.[3] He was a Japanese representative and was encouraged to state his views on Korean culture as a foreigner. Although he was difficult to replace on the show, he left the show in December 2015 to concentrate on training for his debut.
2016: NCT
In March 2016, Yuta was chosen to be a fashion model for British Casual clothing brand “Design United” with two other trainees. During the same time, S.M. Entertainment announced the creation of NCT, a boy group that would have unlimited members and sub-units that would be active all over the world. Yuta was one of the SMROOKIES who was expected to become a member of NCT. On July 1, 2016, it was revealed that Yuta would be a member of the group’s second sub-unit, NCT 127 [4]. The unit held their debut stage on M Countdown on July 7 and released their debut mini-album NCT #127 on July 10.
2020-2021: NCT U, NCT 127 ユウタの YUTA at Home
On October 12, he made his official debut under the sub-unit NCT U, as a part of the NCT's 2020 project NCT Resonance Pt. 1, with the song "From Home".
On November 24, 2020, it was announced that he would host a two-month weekly radio program, NCT 127 ユウタの YUTA at Home, to promote NCT 127's second Japanese EP, Loveholic. On March 19, 2021, the broadcast was announced to extend into a regular program.
2022–2023: Acting debut, Play It Cool, Guys
Yuta made his acting debut through the 2022 Japanese film High&Low: The Worst X as Sazuki Ryo.
In March 2023, it was announced that Yuta would be acting in the live-action adaptation of the web manga Play It Cool, Guys. The show first aired on April 14, with Yuta playing the role of Ichikura Hayate.
2024: Japanese solo debut with Depth
On August 5, SM Entertainment announced that Yuta will make his debut in Japan in the second half of 2024 before going on a Japanese showcase tour.[5] On September 6, SM Entertainment announced that Yuta will debut in Japan with the mini album Depth in the fourth quarter of 2024.[6] The album will be released digitally along with the music video for its title track, "Off the Mask" on October 3, while the physical version will be released on November 13.
2025: "Twisted Paradise"
On February 21, SM Entertainment announced that Yuta will be releasing the first single "Twisted Paradise" on May 14.[7]

- He is a huge fan of famous Japanese rock singer Hyde, the lead vocalist of popular Japanese rock band L'Arc~en~Ciel.[10]
- His favorite foods are Takoyaki, a typical snack from his native Osaka Prefecture and Yakisoba, a popular Japanese stir-fried noodle dish.[11]
