Fire Ball

The Fire Ball is a machine piloted and designed by Mickey Marcus.

F-Zero Maximum Velocity

F-Zero Maximum Velocity Manual
The designer of the Fire Ball (the pilot himself) boasts that the machine is the ultimate combination of speed and beauty.

It uses old fashioned CHASER JET Type-B engines which are side mounted. The age of the engines raises some doubt as to the machine’s acceleration capability.

While it has some cornering quirks, effective use of Blast Turns keeps this machine in the thick of things.[1]

F-Zero for Game Boy Advance Manual (JP)
Fire Ball (English Translation): "I pursued speed and beauty, and the result was this." says the pilot who built it (designed by the pilot himself).

Two slightly older Plymouth CHASER JET Type-B engines were installed. Therefore, the acceleration is a little uneasy.

Cornering is also a bit quirky, but this is not a problem as long as you can compensate for it with the blast turn technique.[2]

F-Zero for Game Boy Advance Very Fast Pilot Manual Guidebook
Fire Ball (English Translation): Despite its poor cornering performance, it has the best potential of the first four cars available, with fast top speed and boost. However, it does take some time to reach the top speed, so the key is to maintain top speed.[3]

Nintendo Power
Fire Ball designer and pilot Mickey Marcus has created a sturdy frame that can take more hits than any machine in the opening field. He’ll always stay in the race.[4]

Tips

  • Fire Ball is one of the four starting machines, being designed as a sturdy, yet slow machine with higher top speed than the others, sporting a base top speed of 440 km/h. It also influences the Rocket Start delay when starting a race.
  • Its poor cornering performance can be mitigated by wise usage of drifting to avoid walls.
  • While Fire Ball takes time to get to its base top speed, getting bumped from behind by AI machines on Expert difficulty and above can mitigate the slow acceleration.

Trivia

  • While it seems that F-Zero Maximum Velocity and its content have never carried over to other content pertaining to the Main Universe (F-Zero GX, Super Smash Bros.), it is possible to build a special custom machine named the Fire Ball in F-Zero GX. It may be a reference to Mickey Marcus' Fire Ball, but the custom machine itself doesn't look like Maximum Velocity's Fire Ball.
  • The F-Zero For Game Boy Advance (Maximum Velocity's JP name) manual states the engine type for the Fire Ball is "Plymouth CHASER Jet Type-B," but the US F-Zero Maximum Velocity manual removes the "Plymouth" part for some reason.
