A Ruin base is a type of base where a player utilizes the Spires in the Mainland to hide and construct your base in. They synergize well with Spire Batteries, and often feature many Arc Turrets along with Distributors to save space.
Ruin bases are inferior to most other kinds of bases, on account of the lack of space in the tight areas in which they are built. Not only are reservoirs and large tanks hard to build, thus making it difficult to store the iridium you produce, but building garages and S.S.I.Ms are also a hassle, since they do not function if they are not built directly upright, and S.S.I.Ms require a direct line of sight to the sky, which is difficult to accomplish in a large ruinbase.
On top of this, ruinbases can easily be destroyed by breaking the bottom layer of the ruins using a laser drill. However, with the addition of Spire Batteries, Ruin Bases have a potential iridium output rivaled only by Seabases. Their unpopularity also means they often aren't an expected strategy; thus, a ruin base could be set up close to a Priority Beacon or enemy base, and used to catch a unwary player off guard.
Another use of a ruin base is as a starting point or attache to another base, such as a Skybase built atop the ruins.
