The Mainland is the large area outside of the starter islands where most of the game's action is usually takes place. A bridge or any other platform can be used to get to the mainland. It is also possible to swim from the Iridium Ocean to a ladder supporting the mainland. The mainland, as well as the rest of the map, is randomly generated and different every game.

Terrain
The mainland is built of several cubical terrain blocks, some of which are covered by grass. The terrain can be solid, or hollow. The mainland has three layers of terrain, with much of the layers in between being hollow. This allows players to go under the mainland. Note that a player could fall into the Iridium Ocean if they fall into a hollow block. The mainland is not perfectly whole: it has several gaps in between that may require structures such as a Bridge to cross. The mainland has an abundance of Iridium Crystals, which can allow players to gather iridium using their Portafab.
Unlike the starter island, the mainland has "clusters" of Well Pipes, which are blocks that allow Well Pumps to be placed on them. This means that there are several well pipes gathered in one spot. These clusters range from 2 well pipes to about 8 well pipes. Clusters are helpful because they allow several Well Pumps to be placed in once location, giving lots of production and supporting a base.
The mainland has 7 Gold Well Pipes, or Beacon Blocks, with six in a hexagonal shape around the mainland and 1 in the very center. They are in set locations every game.
The mainland also has an abundance of Spires, which are tall brown "buildings" that offer a way to get a height advantage when trying to shoot a base with artillery or target it with a bore from a safe distance. Sometimes, these spires offer protection to attackers by shielding them from defenses and hiding them from the defending team. Spires can cover up Well Pipes and Gold Well Pipes
Moving to the mainland as fast as possible is recommended because it offers much more Well Pumps and also more space. One of the main strategies used on the mainland is Sprawling, which is basically rapidly expanding away from your starter island to a certain location. Usually, people who establish a base on the mainland either use it as their main base or sprawl to the Beacon Block.
The mainland also has Ladders which allow you to go to the ocean in order to make a seabase. These support the mainland along with the well pipes.
Although they have very high health, a player can destroy the terrain blocks, with a Laser Drill or a Bore being the most effective methods. Destroying all of the supports on the Mainland will cause the Mainland to fall into the Iridium Ocean below, destroying it, but this is very difficult to do. Larger terrain blocks have much more health and are hard to destroy. In addition, Gold Well Pipes are anchored and cannot move. Any terrain connected or indirectly connected to it will also be anchored. The Well Pipe on the top of the mainland and Gold Well Pipes also cannot be destroyed.
The map's height limit is 255 studs.
In Private servers, the mainland can be set to be symmetrical. In addition, each map has a custom seed. Things such as gaps between islands, well pump frequency, map height, spire and mainland height, and other variables can be changed.
Trivia
- The build height has been changed 3 times, from 450 to 370 studs on November 3, 2019, 370-330 studs on November 11, 2019, and 330–255 on November 18, 2020. These changes were made to reduce the height of Skybases and bring everything closer together.
