Edge Base

Edge base-3

Edge Basing is when a player builds a base at the edge of the map. This is typically done by moving a Hover Barge far into the Iridium Ocean and building a base on it, using a Spatial Anchor to hold it in place. It is typically used for isolating a team from the Mainland, where the majority of the battle takes place. Edge bases are similar to Sea Bases, but are built on a barge rather than a derrick's support.

Construction

Edge basing is done by taking a barge to the edge of the map, at sea level. The barge should have a sustainable amount of iridium, as well as a Distributor Cap. Quickly drive the barge to the end of the map. Once you are at the total edge, attach a wall to the side of the barge so that the top points toward the mainland. You can then create multiple submersibles on this wall with some modification. When you need to refuel your iridium Backpack, simply lower your barge to the lowest mode (1 bar), and draw from the ocean (You'll take damage from the iridium cloud, so return shortly to the highest mode). Your priority is to make a Anchor and distributor for securing your base, and getting iridium. After that, your base design is all up to you. Make sure to expand with more submersibles, autofabs, automechs, etc. For more room, place more walls using the base side barge wall. Always make sure to create defenses, such as walls, shields, etc.

Strategy:

The primary advantage of an edge base is its distance and isolation from the mainland. It also has access to the ocean's iridium, which can be gathered through Submersibles However, edgebasing does not provide any strategical advantages apart from isolation. It's production can easily come from a Sea Base. In addition, its distance from the mainland means it does not pose any offensive threats apart from the use of Cruise Missiles, thus leaving the mainland uncontested. Edge basing is mainly known as a last resort base method, and making one in the beginning of the game lets the enemy easily take control of the center of the map.

Edgebases are typically much weaker than Seabases. as their survival relies on a single spatial anchor, while a Seabase uses the terrain to its advantage. Typically, attacking an edgebase will require the use of Cruise Missile spam or a Hover Barge due to its distance.

Pros:

  • Isolated from the mainland, meaning less potential threats and activity.
  • Submersibles provide a sustainable iridium supply.
  • Open area makes it easier for turrets to find targets.
  • A Skybase can be constructed on edge bases.
  • Has many of the perks of Sea Bases.

Cons:

  • Difficult to make, not recommended for newer players.
  • Very time-consuming to construct.
  • Very difficult to combat the mainland: isolated from the fighting.
  • Very easy for the enemy to create Priority Beacons, as they are uncontested.
  • If all of the Spatial Anchors are taken out, the base will fall into the Iridium Ocean.
