“What” the title track of DreamCatcher’s third mini album “Alone in the City” and is a metal rock track with a captivating energy and powerful performance. The lyrics tell the story of the members as they return to reality from a dream world. DreamCatcher has been uncovering the secrets of a mystery and finding their way out of a maze through their music, and their latest track reflects a new chapter in this journey as well. Member Dami was involved in writing the rap lyrics for the song.

Trivia

• There are some inconsistencies in the line distribution with the studio version and the version performed on live stages.
  • While the "What what what" in the chorus are sung individually by a different member in live performances, in the audio studio only one voice can be distinguished. ^[2]
  • The "Break up, break up" part in live performances is sung by SuA, Handong and Dami respectively but in the studio version it is clearly Siyeon's voice. ^[3]
• The release of this song was a bit controversial in the fandom, as it divided the fans between those who liked the song and those who said it was the worst title track by Dreamcatcher.
• When performed on live stages, the choreography of the song presents different movements compared to the ones in the MV, specifically the 1st and last chorus. ^[4]
  • It is still unknown why this changed was made to the choreography.
• A Japanese version was featured in the group Japanese Debut Single, "What (Japanese Ver.)".
  • Both M/Vs were filmed at the same time.
