Evie is secretly excited to go to Auradon Prep in hopes of finding a perfect prince. She soon realizes that she is much more than a pretty face, and there's more to life than being the fairest of them all. Armed with her mother'sMagic Mirror, she uses it to help her villainous peers carry out their parents' evil plan. At the end of Descendants 2, Evie also wields some political through her recent nomination as a royal adviser by King Ben."
Evie's lush dark hair falls from her forehead in a striking widow's peak, and she never leaves home without her crown or her mother's approval of her appearance. Looking for the perfect prince was more difficult than she thought, but through her adventures in Auradon, Evie learned the true meaning of beauty, and that a perfect prince isn't everything.
Personality
Evie is a girl who is smart, flirty, and very kind in the long run. Unlike most of the villain kids, she is very pleasant, to the point that she was able to make the most sour villains smile with her laughter on her sixth birthday party. She is loyal and authoritative when she wants to be. Due to her mother's insistence that being beautiful is all that matters, Evie has problems with her own vanity and is sensitive to how others view her; her biggest fear was her not ending up as the fairest of them all. She is quite intelligent, especially in chemistry after deciding to not use her magic mirror. Over the course of the film, she gains more self-confidence about herself and learns there is more to life than being the fairest of them all. She can be a bit selfish at times when she's focused on one thing that she really wants to get. Evie was referenced in the first movie as breaking a lot of hearts on the Isle of the Lost for fun, while secretly wanting True Love; but she is not foolish enough to fall for a prince who looks nice but has an ugly personality, as she rejected Chad Charming when she found out how arrogant he is.
Physical Appearance
Physically, Evie is a beautiful and charming young woman of adolescent age. In Isle of the Lost, Evie is described being the fairest of them all, with dark ocean blue hair, dark brown eyes, and full rosy red lips. In the film, Evie likes to wear her hair out, whereas in Isle of the Lost she wears it as a V-braid. Just like the color of her hair, Evie wears mostly blue and black clothing. Her usual outfit is a heart-shaped ruby necklace, a dark blue cape paired with a printed leather skirt with spiderweb leggings and black combat boots, and of course her golden, red-gemmed tiara. She is very well maintained from her well-plucked eyebrows to the makeup her mother insists upon. She never leaves home without her mother's approval of her appearance.
Powers & Abilities
Evie, being the daughter of Evil Queen, Evie possesses the following powers:
Magic: Like her mother, it's possible that she has the ability to manipulate magic at her own will.
Spell Casting: Evie possesses the ability to cast spells. She places everyone under a dog spell with Mal.
Potion Making: Evie possesses the ability to brew potions, and elixirs, this is a skill due to her chemistry.
Aside from her magical powers, Evie also have the following abilities:
Fashion Designer: This is a trademark of Evie. Growing up with a big desire to be the fairest of them all, Evie always looks forward to wearing the best outfits. Later on, she used this ability to design clothes for her friends, especially Mal. In Descendants 2, she started her own clothing brand under the name Evie's 4 Hearts.
Make-up Artist: Complementary to the previous, Evie is a professional make-up artist. She claimed that her mother taught her to apply blush before she could talk, which could be true due to her mother's vain nature.
Cooking: She mentioned to Chad that she is a great cook, but she has yet to show this ability. However, in Evie's Explosion of Taste, she revealed to Mal that she has never baked since the goblins did it for her, implying that she may have lied to please Chad.
Enhanced Intellect: While attending Auradon Prep, Evie soon learned she possessed an above-average intellect that she has begun to utilize rather than hide it so she could just be seen as the pretty girl who needed a prince. Then she could have Doug for passion.
Chemistry: Evie specializes in Chemistry. After getting a B+ in the Chemistry test, Evie developed a devotion for Chemistry and Science. She has been shown to be quite familiar with the subject and tends to use it to create unique beauty products as well as to help her and her friends rescue Ben from Uma.
Evie, Mal, Jay, Carlos, Ben and Jane are the only characters to appear in every installment of the Descendants franchise.
She is also one of the twelve characters (Mal, Jay, Carlos, Ben, Jane, Doug, Chad, Belle, Beast, Fairy Godmother and Dude) to appear in all three Descendants movies.
The name "Evie" is of Hebrew origin, which means "Life, living, lively". It is unknown if Evie is her full name or if its just a nickname, since it was never mentioned in any media of the franchise. Her last name is also not mentioned in any media.
According to Audrey, since the Evil Queen has no royal status in Auradon, Evie isn't really considered a princess. However, this wouldn't be true because the Evil Queen was married into royalty.
According to Evie, her mother taught her how to apply blush before she could talk, and to always use upwards strokes. Considering her mother's vain nature, it's quite likely the truth.
She is ironically good at things that a princess would never need to learn - sewing, cooking and cleaning. Evie even tells Chad, that this makes her similar to his mother, Cinderella. Strangely enough in Evie's Explosion of Taste, she was shown to be a terrible baker. However, considering in the beginning of the film, where the four of them were eating candy and said they never tasted anything so sweet, it is possible she never had the chance to bake (though she stated goblins baked cupcakes for her on her birthday).
The sewing skill is actually a good thing as it is a critical skill in the fashion design field, which seems to be Evie's primary focus.
Her terrible baking can also be explained as her first attempt resulted from her taking someone telling her "Baking is a form of chemistry" literally.
Evie carries a bag that resembles the Heart Box seen in the the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which was given to the Huntsman by The Evil Queen have to contain Snow White's heart, as proof that she was dead.
Evie's mother doesn't really seem to care about her at all and only seems to care about her beauty and whether she'll marry a prince or not.
Sofia Carson wore a wig during filming. However, some of her real hair shows; two instances are the science class and showing Doug the results of her test.
Likely thanks to having an obsession with her mother's Magic Mirror, Evie is quite intelligent in chemistry.
As the movie goes on, in continuation to the wardrobe changes, Evie's clothes begin to resemble Snow White more and more.
Evie usually wears shades of blue, greenish, and black throughout the movie. She has quite an obsession with leather, and never forgets to add a little "Princess Evie" touch to her outfit.
The prelude novel reveals some details about her past:
Evie was castle-schooled due to a curse Maleficent put on her and her mother for not inviting Mal to her sixth birthday party.
She used to be enemies with Mal before they became best friends. Mal once locked her in Cruella De Vil's coat closet as revenge for the birthday party.
She attended Dragon Hall.
Evie was Carlos's first real friend.
She had a parrot sidekick named Othello (Iago's descendant). According to her, Othello has quite a mouth on him, meaning the use of swear words, often wondering where he learned such things.
Carlos is like a little brother to her.
Evie gave Carlos his first pillow.
It was said in the first novel that Evie wore her hair in a V-braid, but in the film, she wears her hair down. But after looking the V-braid Is the braid at the top of her head
In Disney Descendants Yearbook, her "Secret Wish" is to ace chemistry while her "Not-so-secret Wish" is to live in a giant castle with lots of mirrors and a gorgeous prince who loves her.
It's also revealed that she wants to be a fashion designer or a scientist when she grows up.
Her favorite class is chemistry, stating that she is great at it and that it makes her shine.
Her Go-To Object at the museum is King Beast's mystical rose, stating that it's really beautiful.
Evie, Mal, Ben, Uma, Audrey, and Freddie are the only characters to have solos.
Evie and Doug are revealed to be each other's True Love, proven in Descendants 3 when Evie used "True Love's Kiss", to wake up Doug from the sleeping spell cast by Audrey.
She admits to being a witch, just like her mother.
It's proved that she can cast spells in Spirit Day (along with Mal, whose spells usually go wrong mostly because Mal makes some error in the incantation).
Both are daughters of villain queens. However, unlike Evie who embraces her royal heritage (proven by the crowns in her outfits and accessories), Red considers being royal a burden. Ironically, Evie's mother, the Evil Queen, no longer reigns due to being banished to the Isle of the Lost while Red's mother, the Queen of Hearts, still reigns as queen.
In the case of both their mothers have mirrors with magical qualities (the Magic Mirror with the Evil Queen and the Looking Glass with the Queen of Hearts) which they themselves end up using.
Also coincidentally, both Evie and Red are played by actresses with Hispanic roots (Colombian in the case of Sofia Carson and Venezuelan in the case of Kylie Cantrall).
