He and the rest of the dwarfs work in a mine in the forest. After returning home, they discover that someone has entered, and they find Princess Snow White sleeping in their room, who explains that she wants to hide from her stepmother, the Queen, so the dwarfs take her into their house to protect her, although Grumpy doesn't really agree with it.
The next day, after returning to the mine to work, they are surprised by a group of animals. Seeing that they are trying to warn them that Snow White is in danger, they run back to their house, where they find the Queen and begin to chase her, until she falls off a cliff.
After finding Snow White unconscious in their house, and mourning her loss, the dwarfs leave her resting in a glass coffin in the forest, until after a while, the Prince finds her, and after kissing her he makes her wake up, to the joy of the dwarfs, who then say goodbye to their friend.
Appearance
Grumpy is a short slender dwarf with a long white beard. He has a large, round, light pink nose and wears a long, brown, floppy hat that hangs down the back of his head. He wears an equally long red shirt with matching brown patches sewn onto the elbow areas, a black belt with a golden buckle and brown pants, he also wears lighter brown shoes.
Grumpy attends a council meeting, along with the other six dwarfs, as a member of The Council of Sidekicks. As the Sidekicks wait for the meeting to start everyone talking merrily, and that Grumpy almost looks cheerful, until complaining about the lack of cream cakes at the meeting. However, when Ben reveals that he will be running the meeting instead of his father, Grumpy seems to forget about the lack of sweets, dropping his cookie. He is quick to interject when Ben announces that the act will not be granted, Stating that they had worked in the mines for twenty years, without being paid. When Ben attempts to correct Grumpy, Grumpy responds by calling Ben young beast, in reference to King beast. Doc responds to this by shoving his hat into Grumpy's mouth, and Ben thinks to himself that it's no wonder he's referred to as grumpy, as he had never met such a cantankerous person. After Ben decides to adjourn the meeting, unintentionally offending the Sidekicks, Grumpy states that they aren't deaf, and asks Ben if he knows his manners.
Later in the book Ben sits down with Grumpy to readdress the Sidekick Act, thinking to himself that anyone else would have been easier to work with, and that the meeting was doomed. Grumpy immediately starts making rude remarks about Ben, but is taken aback when he apologizes. Grumpy is pleasantly surprised to see that Ben is working to help the sidekicks after reading every single complaint issued. By the end of the meeting he is struggling to find a reason to be bitter, and tells Ben that he'll make a fine king, and reminded him of the Queen.
In "Day 6:Phone" Doug receives a package from Grumpy, the package contains an accordion, soap, a bag of gems, a pickaxe, Dopey's hat, among other things.
Grumpy is mentioned in the book where there is an annual Auradon Prep Scavenger Hunt. One of the items on the list for 25 points was to get a selfie with Grumpy. Everybody felt it was impossible as Grumpy despises greatly getting a selfie and his picture taken. Grumpy does not know why Fairy Godmother puts it on the list for the Scavenger Hunt.
Carlos and his team members visit his cottage where Grumpy was angry at many of the students including Carlos's team for disturbing him as he was watching his favorite show. Carlos uses the magical dog leash given to him by his mother before he left the Isle for Auradon Prep to compel Grumpy to pose with his team for a selfie to win the scavenger hunt. He begrudgingly does so. It was until the end, Carlos realized that it was cheating and he wasn't a good team leader and honestly confessed to Fairy Godmother and deleted the selfie photo.
He appears as the representative of Charmington in the National Association of Far Far Away, were when the members of the council argued that the goods of their respective kingdoms were the most valuable, he comments that they are the diamonds from Chramington, and that in his region they need to be able to charge top Auradon dollar.[1]
Grumpy and the members of the Council of Sidekicks leave the meeting.
