Queen Ariel is the protagonist of the 1989 animated film, The Little Mermaid, and the youngest daughter of King Triton, ruler of the undersea kingdom of Atlantica. She is one of the heroines of Auradon and the wife of Prince Eric.
Ariel is a mermaid who loves human things, and the youngest daughter of King Triton, who hates humans. One day she falls in love with Prince Eric after saving him from drowning. In order to be with him, she makes a deal with the sea witch Ursula: She will turn Ariel into a human in exchange for her voice, and she must get Eric to kiss her within three days, or the deal will be broken.
During that time, Ariel tries to get Eric to kiss her, although without success. And when Eric announces that he is going to marry a woman named Vanessa, she is saddened by Ariel. However, after discovering that Vanessa is really Ursula, Ariel confronts her with the help of her friends, in the act of her breaking her locket and recovering her voice. With which, Eric stops being under the spell of the medallion, and when he sees that Ariel is the girl who saved him, he tries to kiss her, but the time limit for being human is broken.
Ursula takes Ariel with her, but is stopped by Triton, who offers to take his daughter's place. After that, Ursula obtains Triton's trident, but Ariel and Eric confront her, until they finally defeat the witch. After that, Ariel still wants to be with Eric, so Triton accepts that her daughter is in love with a human, so he turns her into a human so she can marry Eric.
In School of Secrets, it is revealed she has a niece but it is unknown which of her sisters is the mother.
Since she was 16-years-old in her debut, The Little Mermaid, and the beginning of Auradon was 20 years ago, that means that she is now roughly 36 years old.
Despite this, a castle appears on one of the maps of Auradon under the name "Melody's Castle" near Ariel and Eric's Castle, whether this is a tribute, an error or another character with the same name associated with Ariel's friends and family is unknown.
