Jor-El

Jor-El of the House of El was a Kryptonian scientist who prophesied the destruction of the planet Krypton but was not able to convince their high council. He only had time to build one Rocket large enough for his child, Kal-El, to escape and be sent to Earth, where he was discovered by Jonathan and Martha Kent in Smallville, Kansas; Kal-El would grow up as a great hero, eventually becoming Superman. Jor-El and his wife, Lara Lor-Van, perished when their planet exploded. In the DC Rebirth reboot, Jor-El survived and became Mister Oz.

Jor-El was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, first appearing in the Superman comic strip (1939).
