Wang Wei (偉望, Wěiwàng), more commonly just called Wei, is employed as a butler and guardian in the Li household and is a cousin of Yelan Li [1]. Wei is the guardian to Syaoran Li and Meiling Li during their extended stay in Tomoeda whilst trying to capture the wayward Clow Cards created by their ancestor Clow Reed.

Appearance

Wei is an aging tall man with grey hair and a mustache. He wears spectacles and often is seen wearing a butler's uniform. He usually wears a shirt, dark trousers and an apron when working in the kitchen.

Personality

Wei is very polite and well-mannered, referring to Syaoran and Meiling as "Syaoran-sama" and "Meiling-sama", and has good manners when in the company of others like Sakura Kinomoto and Tomoyo Daidouji who becomes good friends with Wei and his quarry. Wei is shown to be very supportive of Syaoran and Meiling, encouraging Meiling to take a school race a little less seriously and instructing her on how to control her breathing and speed.

Plot

Wei has known Syaoran and Meiling since they were children, having been the one who educated them and taught them martial arts, although Meiling showed more difficulty in the training process. When a bird Meiling adopted went missing, Wei waited with her as Syaoran ran off to find the bird, eventually returning with it much to Meiling's and Wei's delight.

Wei is aware of the existence of the Clow Cards and presumably Cerberus, observing Syaoran and Meiling do battle with The Twin Card, having been affected by the card's duplication ability and ends up becoming two Wei, much to Kero-chan's shock.[2] He later departs back to Hong Kong when Meiling is forced to return home by her mother. He cameos in Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie in Yelan Li's house.

Wei has several appearances in the third season of the anime, kindly welcoming Sakura and Tomoyo into his apartment on New Year's Day, much to Syaoran's chagrin. When Meiling briefly visits Syaoran but learns he loves Sakura, Wei supports Syaoran, explaining Meiling needs time to cope with the surprise.

Wei receives a phone call from Yelan who orders Syaoran to return home. Wei leaves Tomoeda with Syaoran, but Sakura catches up to them at the airport to attempt to confess her feelings towards Syaoran but is actually stopped when Wei walks over but he bows respectfully to Sakura as an apology. He is witness to Syaoran giving Sakura his homemade teddy bear.
