Note (BIA)

Notes are various documents found in Betrayal in Antara. They may carry plot- or quest-relevant information.

Overview

Notes are not stackable and occupy one Inventory space. They can be sold for 1 burla at shops which purchase Books and Scrolls.

The standard description for a Letter or Note is: Ignoring the writing, he/she studied the paper itself. [Character] found nothing remarkable about the laid pattern, the cut, or the materials from which it was made.

The following notes appear in roughly the order in which they are found in the game.

Notes

  • Sprite of a pile of loose papers against a black background. The papers are flat and whitish gray.
    Obtained: from Scott Gratisi in Aspreza in Chapter 1. Adds +5 to Aren's Detect Skill.
  • Description: The loose pages included papers and parchments of varying grades and types, likely from many sources.
  • When read: Aren read through the notes eagerly. After many false starts, he finally felt he understood how to create the magical effects they described. Aren couldn't wait to test the spells out.
  • When read by a non-mage: [Character] flipped through the pages, but he/she couldn't sense any of the forces described in them and quickly lost interest.
  • Shares its sprite with the Sealed Notes and the Letters.

Note (Levosche barn)

  • A sheet of whitish grey paper or parchment against a black background. The upper edge of the paper is slightly rolled up and the bottom right corner is bent upward.
    Description: The note looked like it had been hastily scrawled on a blank page which had been ripped from the back of a book.
  • Contents: A mage's desperate search for a way of stopping "her" from stealing his magic and life-force as, in her dreadful hunger, she has done to so many others.

Note (Brian Castere's house)

  • A sheet of whitish grey paper or parchment against a black background. The upper edge of the paper is slightly rolled up and the bottom right corner is bent upward.
    Description: standard.
  • Contents: G.F. accuses Castere of cheating him.

Note (Gerard Fayle's house)

  • A sheet of whitish grey paper or parchment against a black background. The upper edge of the paper is slightly rolled up and the bottom right corner is bent upward.
    Description: standard.
  • Contents: Castere denies cheating Fayle.

Letters

  • Sprite of a pile of loose papers against a black background. The papers are flat and whitish gray.
    Found: on a corpse in the road southwest of Isten.
  • Description: The letters were packed together in a tight sheaf and carefully preserved. [Character] guessed they were of great personal import to someone.
  • Use: deliver to Sister Senena at the Isten Temple.
  • Chronicles of the lives and misfortunes of Alethea and Ciaran.
  • Shares its sprite with the Scott Gratisi's Notes and both Sealed Notes.

Note (Garvin Usher's house)

  • A sheet of whitish grey paper or parchment against a black background. The upper edge of the paper is slightly rolled up and the bottom right corner is bent upward.
    Description: Kaelyn recognized the handwriting immediately -- the note was from her father.
  • Contents: Warns against approaching the Wraiths in the Ridgewood and directs the reader to Garvin Usher's workshop.

Note (mercenary ambush east of Torlith)

  • A broad piece of white paper against a black background. The paper is much wrinkled, creased, and smudged with grey, and faded writing is barely visible in some of the creases.
    Description: Judging from the wrinkles, the note had passed through many hands -- or the same hands many times -- before finding its way into [character]'s.
  • Contents: Sir Richard Densmore contracts to pay Gerry Barcudi 750 burlas upon receiving news that B. Stafford of Isten has died of "natural causes."
  • Shares its sprite with the Faded Note.

Sealed Note (from Lokath)

  • Sprite of a pile of loose papers against a black background. The papers are flat and whitish gray.
    Description: [Character] stifled his curiosity about what was written on the paper. If he broke the seal, the note's authenticity might be questioned.
  • Use: deliver to Birge.
  • Introduces the party to Lieutenant Birge. Cannot be read.
  • Shares its sprite with Scott Gratisi's Notes, the Sealed Note from Birge, and the Letters.

Sealed Note (from Birge)

  • Sprite of a pile of loose papers against a black background. The papers are flat and whitish gray.
    Description: [Character] stifled his curiosity about what was written on the paper. If he broke the seal, the note's authenticity might be questioned.
  • Use: deliver to Lokath.
  • A report of the party's success for Lokath. Cannot be read.
  • Shares its sprite with Scott Gratisi's Notes, the Sealed Note from Lokath, and the Letters.

Note (Simon Liana's house)

  • A sheet of whitish grey paper or parchment against a black background. The upper edge of the paper is slightly rolled up and the bottom right corner is bent upward.
    Description: standard.
  • Contents: Georges, who wants to marry Rachel, beseeches Simon to hurry to Levosche and officiate at their wedding.

Note (from Naku)

  • A sheet of whitish grey paper or parchment against a black background. The upper edge of the paper is slightly rolled up and the bottom right corner is bent upward.
    Sprite of Naku's note.
    Received from Naku just outside Grandeur in Chapter 7.
  • Description: standard.
  • Content: William Escobar informs Kaelyn that they have found their "lost friend" but that his "playmates" will want him back, and asks her to meet them at The Feral Duck in Darvi so they can take him home together.

Note at the Feral Duck

  • A sheet of whitish grey paper or parchment against a black background. The upper edge of the paper is slightly rolled up and the bottom right corner is bent upward.
    Received from the innkeeper at the Feral Duck Inn in Darvi after forking over two bribes.
  • Description:
  • Content: William informs Kaelyn that "Junior" is too tired to play so they are taking him to his new home, but his "playmates" are in pursuit and it might help to have her along in case the "playmates" are too insistant.

First Note at Lighthouse

  • A sheet of whitish grey paper or parchment against a black background. The upper edge of the paper is slightly rolled up and the bottom right corner is bent upward.
    Sprite of the first lighthouse note.
    Found in the Havesly lighthouse in Chapter 8.
  • Description: Ignoring the writing, [character] studied the note. Aside from the fine grade of the paper, there was nothing else remarkable or indicative of the note's origin.
  • Content: "The Fair Current left Nathby for Pianda today with a joyman aboard. That joyman must not survive the trip. Salvage rights to any other cargo are yours." Signed: "Sheffield."

Second Note at Lighthouse

  • A broad piece of white paper against a black background. The paper is much wrinkled, creased, and smudged with grey, and faded writing is barely visible in some of the creases.
    Found in the Havesly lighthouse in Chapter 8.
  • Description: The wrinkled note looked like it had been flattened back out after being crumpled into a ball.
  • Content: Terminates the writer's arrangement with the recipient, warning that their vessels are no longer welcome in the writer's coves, that there would be no further contact, and that the recipients may keep any percentage they owe the writer and depart. Signed: "Sheffield."

Practice Sheet

  • A broad piece of white paper against a black background. The paper is much wrinkled, creased, and smudged with grey, and faded writing is barely visible in some of the creases.
    Found with the Cellar Key in a chest on the second floor of the Sheffield Estate.
  • Description:vThe paper was creased haphazardly, as if it had been folded accidentally or in a hurry.
  • Content: a succession of signatures reading "Cameron Sheffield," with those at the top irregular but those at the end almost perfect matches with Sheffield's signature as William has seen it.

Note to Petrov

  • A sheet of whitish grey paper or parchment against a black background. The upper edge of the paper is slightly rolled up and the bottom right corner is bent upward.
    Sprite of the first lighthouse note.
    Found on Petrov's body after Sheffield slays him in the cellar tunnels under the Sheffield Estate.
  • Description: Ignoring the writing, [character] studied the note. Aside from the fine grade of the paper, there was nothing else remarkable or indicative of the note's origins.
  • Contents: Instructions to Petrov from "Silver Hawk" to eliminate Selana Sheffield now that "the plan" has backfired, leave the Empire, and wait to be contacted; meanwhile, Silver Hawk will take care of Bryce.
