The Ridgewood is a forest in the Antaran Empire in Betrayal in Antara. It is first visited in Chapter 5.
History and Geography
The Ridgewood itself is shaped like a large L, bordered on the west and east by mountains, topped by a coastal strand leading west toward Grandeur and with a mountain passage leading south to Darvi.
The Ridgewood is frequented by Grrrlf due to its proximity to Grrrlfland and the Ancestral Den. Janulan hunters, traders, and villagers also travel there. Garvin Usher's house, Kaelyn Usher's childhood home, is in the south of the wood; Usher's Cave can be found in a copse on the northeast edge.
There is a broken circle of inward-facing wardstones in a meadow in the easternmost area of the wood.
Denizens
- In Chapter 5, Krrrfrrrlaaak greets the party on both the northern and southern borders of the wood until they've spoken to Garvin Usher.
- In Chapter 5 only, Usher can be found in his cave in the northern part of the wood, while the wood itself is haunted by five juvenile Wraiths. Gregor's Journal and Bryce's Journal, obtained later in the game, note that local trappers and peasants have complained to Lord Sheffield about the hauntings and have been refusing to enter the forest.
- The hostile bodies of soulless Grrrlf and other victims of the Wraiths (Bandits, Mercenaries, Chumen) roam the wood in small mobs in Chapters 5 and 7.
Trivia
- Since Usher's house is accessible in the latter part of Chapter 6, it is possible for Aren Cordelaine and William Escobar to recover anything left there for them in Chapter 5 and leave better armor and other items there for Kaelyn and Raal to pick up in Chapter 7.
