The burla is the main unit of currency in the Antaran Empire in Betrayal in Antara.
For the equivalent item in Betrayal at Krondor, see Gold Sovereign.
Overview
The gold-stamped coin known as the burla originated in Burlen, an ancient city of legendary wealth, and eventually become the continental standard currency.
Burlas are stackable up to 250 and stored collectively in the party's food and cash inventory. The party can carry a maximum of 10,500 burlas if no food items are present to take up inventory space. When gold is acquired or spent during travel or when transactions are accepted in Inns, Taverns, and Shops, the relevant funds are added or deducted automatically from the party's cash pool.
Description
The shape, size, and Imperial portrait featured on the burla had changed many times in the Empire's history. Yet the coin's gold content, the foundation of the region's economic stability, remained constant.
Trivia
- While Burlen is said to have gold-lined streets, the streets are actually paved with cobblestones rather than coins.
- The Imperial burla differs from Betrayal at Krondor's Gold Sovereign in being minted with an Imperial portrait, while the Sovereign is unminted. Also unlike the Gold Sovereign, the burla cannot be broken into smaller units of currency.
