The OCAP–91 Volcan, also known as the Volcan, was a type of heavy flamethrower. Initially designed as a farming tool, the Volcan was later mass–produced by the Hyperdyne Corporation and used by the Union of Progressive Peoples, the United Americas, and the United States Colonial Marine Corps.
Development
The OCAP–91 Volcan was designed by collective farmers on the moon of Domingos Martins for clearing "razor-coil", a hard, thorny native vine that grew out of control when exposed to imported fertilizers and irrigated cropland during the Fourth Five–Year Agricultural Program. As the vine's ten meter–thick mats grew impervious to defoliants and overran hundred of square kilometers, engulfing towns, local farmers adapted their crowd–sourced pesticide sprayers to torch the vines. Upon learning that the forces of the Union of Progressive Peoples did not possess any portable incinerators due to a less–than–satisfactory experience with the United States Colonial Marine Corps' M240 Incinerator Units during the Hyades Revolts, the Hyperdyne Corporation licensed a military version of the Volcan. Acknowledgements went to Alves, Carvalho, and Phan, three members from local Unity Committees who had contributed to the overall design.[1]
Overview
The OCAP–91 Volcan fired liquid fuel, with which it could unleash a powerful stream of fire at short range for approximately nine seconds of continuous fire with a single canister. However, the Volcan's size and weight required the weapon to be handled with a power–assist harness. It could, alternatively, be linked to a backpack fuel tank for a larger capacity.[1]
Notable users
Originally created for the civilian market, the militarized version of the Volcan was released in 2191. The flamethrower was used by the Union of Progressive Peoples' Space Operating Forces, the United Americas' Aerospace Force Construction Battalions, the Colonial Marines, and civilian terraforming, clear–cutting, and forestry management services. The Weyland-Yutani Corporation also furnished their Synth Incinerators with the Volcan.[1]

The OCAP–91 Volcan appears in Aliens: Fireteam Elite and can be obtained via a random drop by finishing a mission in Standard difficulty. It can be equipped by Demolisher and Lancer classes.
