- "Adapted from the fully automatic M41, the A3 is quick–firing and effective. Built with a permanent 4–round burst mode and further modified to provide tighter, more accurate grouping."
- ―Profile of the M41A3 Pulse Rifle (from Aliens: Fireteam Elite)
The M41A3 Burst Rifle was a pulse–action rifle manufactured by Armat Battlefield Systems and a variant of the M41A Pulse Rifle. It was used by the United States Colonial Marine Corps and United Americas during the late 22nd century.
Development
The M41A3 was designed to compensate for the fully–automatic fire of the M41A Pulse Rifle and M41A Pulse Rifle MK2 which, in the hands of panicky users, wasted enormous amounts of ammunition. Armat's proposed solution was a modification to restrict the rifle's action to short, controlled bursts of four rounds, much like rifles used by the Three World Empire. The M41A3, like the M41AE2 Heavy Pulse Rifle and the future M41A2 Pulse Rifle, lacked the U1 Grenade Launcher.[1]
Overview
The M41A3 fired the standard United Americas 10×24mm Caseless, which was dispersed in four–round bursts to limit ammunition wastage; in practice, however, the M41A3 was proven to be less effective than hoped. Field testing showed that ammo consumption effectively decreased—as did the average accuracy percentage, as trigger–happy users, lacking the recoil and buzz from continuous firing, tended to overcompensate by repeatedly pulling the trigger without remaining calm or taking time to get a bead on their targets. Furthermore, the M41A3 lacked the stopping power of its predecessors' underbarrel grenade launcher.[1]
Notable users
Originally manufactured and issued in 2186 for the United States Colonial Marine Corps, the M41A3 saw service in United Americas national services, colonial militias and private military contractors.[1]
