The L56A3 Smartgun was a variant of Armat Battlefield Systems' M56 Smartgun manufactured by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation. Originally produced for the Three World Empire, the L56A3 also saw use with the United States Colonial Marine Corps.
Development
The L56A3 Smartgun was developed by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation following the outmoding of Armat Battlefield Systems' M56 Smartgun by the United States Colonial Marine Corps. Weyland–Yutani designed the L56A3 for the Three World Empire, focusing more on defense, mobility and reliability by reducing the weapon's weight using nano–manufactured metamaterials and increasing combat harness articulation.[1]
Overview
The L56A3 fired 10×28mm Caseless ammunition. Its newly acquired mobility boosted its popularity with the United States Colonial Marine Corps mainly due to nostalgia; even so, some elite units often considered it to be a low–skill weapon.[1]
Notable users
While the original M56 model was released in 2149 for the Colonial Marines, this variant was released for the Three World Empire's Royal Marines Commandos and national services, and pressed into Colonial Marine service.[1]

The L56A3 Smartgun appears in Aliens: Fireteam Elite and is the default Heavy weapon for the Demolisher and Lancer classes.
