Dancin' Dave was a dancer from Season 12 of America's Got Talent. He was eliminated in the audition round.
Background
Dancin Dave's Dance Party is available to perform at events around Los Angeles, Southern California, Las Vegas or anywhere in the world. You can often catch him for free on the Santa Monica Pier , the Promenade or the Venice Beach boardwalk.
Dancin Dave has been active in various movement arts from a very young age. He first started dancing in kindergarten at St. Joseph’s Catholic Grade School in Sioux City, IA which had a formal classical dance program.
Dave started martial arts when he was 15 years old and still holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Nowadays he studies Kung Fu, etc. at the world famous Inosanto Academy in Marina Del Rey, CA.
Dave, a baritone learned to sing in his 20’s while attending the Living Word Missionary Baptist Church in Long Beach, CA where he joined in singing traditional black spirituals. That’s where Dave learned to sing "soul" and has since adapted his skills to sing and dance black R&B and Rap music .
In 2005, he saw the documentary movie “Rize” which chronicles the development of the dance style called Krump in South-Central Los Angeles. Dave was never into hip hop dance but was fascinated by Krump and knew right away when he saw it that he had to do it himself. Krump is partially based on tribal African war dance and Dave saw it as a natural way, along with his martial arts to positively channel his own inner warrior. So Dave combined Krump, martial arts and soul singing to invent his own proprietary, signature dance style that draws upon a repertoire of original dance moves and is always impromptu and interpretive by definition.
In 2010 Dave wandered into a karaoke bar and sang Billy Idol’s White Wedding. He loved the enthusiastic reaction of the audience and soon developed a following at local karaoke venues. It was his fans who encouraged him to become an entertainer saying things like “Man, you got to take this act on the road!”. One night, Dave had a sore back at karaoke and after performing one of his fans came up to him and said “Dude, why aren’t you dancing tonight?” That’s when Dave realized that his fans demanded the dancing and that it was an integral part of his act.
In 2011 Dave entered an 18 week long, American Idol style (weekly eliminations) singing contest at the Fox And Hound. Dave didn’t win the contest. He came in 4th though with no professional singing experience. Again it was his fans who encouraged him, telling Dave that they had come there just to see him and taking pictures with him. One of the judges gave Dave a pointer saying "It’s all about how you make the people feel." Dave took that valuable insight to heart and strives to touch the hearts of the people in his audience.
Dave was greatly encouraged and pondered whether he really could "take his act on the road". But he had fear of rejection.
However, in 2015, Dave decided to go for it. He thought back on all the past opportunities that he had missed in his life. Shoulda, coulda, woulda no more! Dave said "At the end of my life I at least want to be able to say that I gave my song and dance show a chance. I don’t want to be sitting around in my final days saying I wish I had done it". "Even if I don’t make it, I will be satisfied that I gave it my best shot and wasn’t afraid to pursue my dream".
Now Dave likes to use his show to paste smiles on his audiences faces by spreading mirth and merriment. But most of all Dave loves to inspire his fans to follow their own passions. When people see Dave astounding the audience with his dynamic performances they realize that they too can do anything that they set themselves to. [1]
