The New Yo-kai Watch (Japanese: 新型妖怪ウォッチを手に入れろ,Shingata Yōkai Wotchi o Te ni Irero)
and The Unboxing (Japanese: 正しい箱の開け方,Tadashii Hako no Akekata) is the 27th episode of the Yo-kai Watch anime series. It was broadcasted in Japan on July 18, 2014, and in the United States on August 1, 2016.
Steve Jaws unveils the new Yo-kai Watch Model Zero resulting in a big sale in Yo-kai-lifornia, Yo-kai World. With help from Mirapo, Nate and Whisper go to Yo-kai-lifornia in order to get the Yo-kai Watch Model Zero which Jibanyan and every Yo-kai up to now are in line for.
This is the first episode of the English dub to show Komasan's new voice style, which would be used in later episodes and newer Yo-kai Watch video game.
Before Whisper goes out of Nate's house to visit the Yopple store in the Yo-kai World, he says in Japanese that he is "going to join the big wave" which is a reference to a person named BUTCH on the news stating the exact same thing when he lines up at an Apple Store to buy an iPhone 6 in 2014.
The scene where Jibanyan beats up Nate after summoning him would continue in several future episodes.
This episode and Westward Yo! were previewed at the San Diego Comic Con 2016 on July 23, 2016 during the Yo-kai Watch voice actor panel.
This is the first episode of the Season 2 English dub.
The segments on the Zap2It TV listings are incorrectly called "Let's Get the New Yo-kai Watch!" and "How to Open the Box Properly". Those are literal translations of the Japanese titles and may have been used as a placeholder during localization.
In the recap, the back of Whisper's Next HarMEOWny happi has a different logo compared to the NPCs wearing them in Yo-kai Watch 3.
Dub Differences
When Nate inserts a regular medal into the Model Zero, the Original Yo-kai Watch summoning song plays instead of a message that reminds the user about the Medal incompatibility. This was likely done to match up with the real-life Hasbro-manufactured Zero Watch that was once sold in select western territories, as it can play any Medal unlike its Japanese variant.
Jibanyan's Nyext Z Medal was changed to his normal Z medal.
Errors
In the Arabic dub of this episode, Sproink wasn't edited out.
The French dub of this episode's preview (from the end of EP026) uses a completely textless version throughout, including scenes of the Yo-kai World without the Japanese signage and a shot of Jibanyan's Z-medal without Yo-Motion. Since the preview's dub may have been done during Season 1's production span, it's likely these edits were simply not finalized at the time.
