“ | My power is limitless! My children legion! And they have rendered unto me a wealth of crystals! Their gifts sustain me, Their faith empowers me! The Primals, also known as Eikons, are god-like beings in Final Fantasy XIV which serve as one of the three major antagonistic forces alongside The Garlean Empire and The Ascians.
Biography
Origin
Primals are creatures that do not naturally exist in the world of Hydalyn. Rather, they are beings who need to be summoned. In order to summon a Primal, two key elements are needed. First, concentrated sources of Aether are needed to be able to feed the Primal the initial amount of Aether needed to give them a form. These almost always come in the form of Aether Crystals, a natural resource in Hydalyn. The other element is strong faith in the being that is to be summoned. This can either be religious in nature, like with most primals, where summoners call upon their god-like being, or Primals can also be spawned through pure desire alone, such as the desire to become strong or the desire for revenge. Primals can also be summoned with a focus, such as an object or a person that the primal is channeled into. The latter scenario, those with the Echo can actually keep control of themselves and control the Primal. Alternatively, those with a strong enough echo can also merge their souls with existing Primals and take control of them
In Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers it was revealed that summoning Primals is actually a branch of the ancient art known as Creation. Creation was used by the ancient Amourotians, god-like beings relative to the current races of Hydalyn. Creation an art where one could simply focus on an idea in their head, and by channeling aether, could they create a new object or being from aether alone. The ramifications of tempering where not a threat in the ancients time as nothing was ever made to be both sentient as well as stronger than the Amaurotians either. The Amaurotians and the world at their time was not sundered as it is in present day, meaning that Aether was much more naturally abundant and the ancients themselves contained an incomprehensible amount of Aether that all their creations were permanently sated upon creation rather than needing continued sources of Aether to continue existence. However, during The Final Days, The Convocation of the Fourteen took desperate measures to summon the First Primal into existence, the first time the Amaurotians would summon a being whose power vastly triumphs theirs. As such they summoned Zodiark in order to restore the dying world to stability and habituality.
Summoning
Once a Primal is Summoned, they immediately temper, or enthrall, those who summoned them. Tempering these mortals enslaves the mortals' mind into serving them for all of eternity, even should the primal be slayed, the tempered remains to summon their god back once again. Primals also need continued sources of Aether to remain alive, otherwise they would dissipate into pure Aether. As such the Temepered often continue to provide Crystals, but should the Primal be too starved of Aether for crystals alone to suffice, they will draw upon the Aether of the land itself, draining the life until the land becomes an uninhabitable desert, such as The Burn, a region of Othard which became a vast umbral desert as the result of a Primal.
The Power of a Primal is determined by the number of supporters a Primal has and the degree of intensity of their prayers. This means that primals once summoned as weak are likely to come back stronger and the tempered summoners wish for more powerful deities with stronger intensity in their prayers. This is observed many times where previous defeated Primals come back, each stronger than the last. This is also why simply brute forcing and destroying primal after primal with extreme force, as is the solution proposed by Garlemald, inefficient and ultimately short sighted at getting arid of primals, since desperation will only leave to strong primals, such was the case with Bahamut and the Allagan Empire.
Appearance
Primals vary in physical traits drastically, as none of them can really be considered the same species apart from all being Primals. The appearence of a Primals as well as the powers they possess depend upon the wishes of who are summoning them. Typically powers are derived from the subject of the Primal to begin with, usually powers the being was known to have if they lived once before or powers described in fiction or religion that the primal appeared in.
The appearance of a Primal almost always coincides with the species who summoned them. Primals summoned by humans look human-like, Primals summoned by the beast tribes take the appearance close to said beastman. This is generally because most Primals are summoned as the god of that particular people. There are exceptions though, Where said gods do not look like the summoners in question or are simply summoned for a different purpose. The same Primal can even look completely different depending on who is summoning him, this is shown how the Primals summoned from the beastman are much different than those summoned from the Warrior of Lights Memories in the Eden Raids.
At the End of Shadowbringers, Fandaniel has strange towers rise up around the land. These towers enslave the minds of those who get near them, making them part of the Telephori, a doomsday cult led by Fandaniel to bring about the second coming of the Final Days. Along with this purpose, The towers also serve to make new versions of primals by capturing various beastman and imrpisoning them in horrific ways, fusing them with the towers themselves, they fuel these new primals. Fandaniel coined them as "Lunar" primals due to the purple hues they all share in color.
List of Primals
Ifrit
Ifrit, also known as The Lord of Inferno is the first Primal encountered by the Warrior of Light in Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Ifrit is the God of the Amalj'aa beast tribe, located in Thanalan. Ifrit takes the appearance of a bipedal demon with dragon and reptilian like features. Ifrit controls the element of Fire. It is said that those who oppose Ifrit shall burn for all eternity.
The Warrior of Light first encounters Ifrit when they are caputered by the Alalj'aa in an attempt to reach their camp. They are imprisoned and later brought before ifrit and other prisoners to be tempered. Ifrit breathes his clensing flames and brainwashes all the prisoers. The Warrior of Light, however, is armed with the Echo and escapes this fate. The Amalj'aa then try to kill the Warrior of Light whom they notice is unaffected, but the Warrior of Light fends them off. Ifrit does nothing during this encounter and after the conflict deduces that the Warrior of Light has the ability to summon their own primal. The Warrior of Light feigns loyalty to Ifrit and promises to never summon their god. Later the Warrior of Light returns to the Bowls of Ember to defeat Ifrit
In Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn This encounter happens again with many simialrities. The Warrior of Light, attempting to thwart and attempt to Summon Ifrit. However, a trecherous Imortal Flames baits them into a trap where the Warrior of Light and Immortal Flames are overwhelemed. Once again they are imprisioned and brought before Ifrit to be cleansed. All the prisoners and the traiters to the flames are brought to be cleansed. Ifrit breathes his fire over them and all but The Warrior of Light are tempered. This Time, Ifrit does stand quietly and vows to kill the Warrior of Light, but this ifrit is weak and the Warrior of Light triumphs. Ifrit is later summoned by the Amalja'aa two more times with drastic increases in strength, but to no avail.
In The Eden Raids, Ifrit appears much more human and demon like rather than reptillian and dragon like. He resembles the voidsent, in particular looking close to Diabolos. Ifrit is summoned in an effort to restore Fire to the empty. Because Fire and Wind depend on each other, he is summoned alongside Garuda.
A Lunar Ifrit is summoned by the Telephori Tower in paglth'an. This Lunar Ifrit emerged when Arenvald triggered the towers defenses and severely wounded him, possibily disabling him. Later in the Second Battle of Carteneau, Lunar Ifrit was fought by the Grand company of Eorzea, particuraly against The Warrior of Light, Estinien, and Alphinaud. There Lunar Bahamut was defeated.
Titan
Titan, also known as The Lord of Crags, is the second Primal encountered in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Titan is the god of the mole-like Kobolds, located in Outer La Noscea. Titan is a massive Rock Golem with white hair. Titan controls the element of earth and vows to crush the Lominsans under the weight of the land.
The Scions of the Seventh dawn learn that the Kobolds summon Titan. The Warrior of Light gains the approval of the Company of Heroes, known to have slayed Titan in the past, and is granted their succor with the means to confront Titan. With Y'shtola's help, The Warrior of Light is teleported to the Navel where he confrotns and defeats Titan. Like Ifrit, He was summoned two more times with greater strength, only to be slayed.
In Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, Titan is once again to be summoned. The Scions along with a young, Non-tempered Kobold, Ga Bu, confront Father Za Da of the Second order for summoning Titan and kidnapping Ga Bu's Parents. Although the Scions thwart the summoning, Ga Bu discovers that his parents have been slain in order to provide additional aether for summoning Titan. This causes Ga Bu to despair and cry out any sort of savior to revive his parents. This inadvertently Summons Titan, who unlike his last incarnation, is full of Ga Bu's pure rage and proceeds to destroy anything in path, even almost hurting Ga Bu. Alisae saves Ga Bu and the Warrior of Light defeats Titan. Sadly, Ga Bu becomes Tempered, but instead of serving Titan, he remains silent and unresponsive.
In Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers a cure for tempering was finally found and Admiral Merlwyb as well as the Scions confront Za Da once more, who nearly summons Titan to attack them. He is stopped though and cured of his Tempering.
In The Eden Raids, Titan is summoned to restore Earth to the empty. Here he appears much more mechanical and robot like, being made of metal and having many mechanical motors which power him.
Garuda
Garuda, also known as The Lady of the Vortex, is the third Primal encountered in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Garuda is the goddess of the featherless bird-like Ixali tribe, located in the Coerthas Central Highlands. Gardua appears as a typical Harpy, a bipedal bird like creature with bird-like features. Garuda controls the element of Wind and vows the cause cataclysmic tempest that shall destroy all but those who serve her.
After Livia sas Junius invades the waking Sands, murders most the Scions and captures their higher-ups, The Warrior of Light finds santuary in a church near Camp Drybone. Alphinaud comes to the church to seek both The Warrior of Light and Cid nan Garland. He informs that Garuda had been summoned. After long attempts to find and repair the Enterprise, the party journeys to the Howling Eye where they Confront Garuda. Although the Warrior of Light defeats her, the Scions did not have the resources to prevent the Ixali from strengthening Garuda by praying to her. Garuda seemed unbeatable, but then Gaius van Baelsar shows up and kills the Ixali who try to attack him. He then uses The Ultima Weapon to confront Garuda. Garuda sacrafices the captured Amalj'aa and Kobolds to summon Ifrit and Titan, to which she tempers. This is the only time in Final Fantasy XIV where a Primal summoned other Priamls to temper. Sadly for Garuda though, The Ultima Weapon defeats all 3 Primals easily and absorbs their power into the Ultima Weapon. Garuda would be summoned 2 more times yet again, stronger each time, but was soundly defeated by The Warrior of Light.
In The Eden Raids, Garuda is summoned to restore Wind to the empty. She doesn't differ too much from her original look, still appearing as a harpy but more muscular and more demonic like. She also has six large wings instead of just four. As Fire and Wind depend on each other, Garuda is summoned simultaneously with Ifrit.
Bahamut
Bahamut is the main antagonist of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Bahamut, also known as the Elder Primal, is a large Great Wyrm Dragon with powerful fire magic. Bahamut is the first primal seen to not be based on a religious figure, but rather a historical one. Bahamut was originally one of the great wyrms, son of the Dragon God Midgarsomr. He and his brood Sister Tiamat went to the southern continent of Meracydia where they settled and fostered their family of Dragons. When the Allagan Empire invaded the continent, Bahamut fought off the Allagan forces but perished for it. This caused Tiamat and Bahamut's children to be enraged, and after being appraoched by Ascians, Tiamat led a summoning to revive Bahamut. However, instead of reviving Bahamut, they summoned the most powerful Primal the Allagans had yet to see, a dragon of pure rage set on saving the Dragons from Humanity's cruelty. Bahamut was still no match for the Allagans though who imprisoned him in Dalamud, and used him as a power source.
Tens of Thousands of years later, The Garlean Empire sought to use Dalamud to anihalate Eorzea through the Meteor Project. Nael van Darnus helmed this project and successfully was able to cast Meteor on Dalamud, causing it to slowly descend upon Eorzea. As the Red Moon was only a few malms from impact, Bahamut broke out of his Prison. His rage festered by milenia of imprisonment, and ignorant of the Allagans Demise, Bahamut began to singe the land with his mega flare and giga flare spells. He confronts Louisoix who attempts to re-imprison Bahamut, but fails. Bahamut then readies Terraflare, which would utterly destroy all of Eorzea, but at the last second, Louisoix sacrifices himself to save the Warrior of Light and the City-State leaders, and perishes. He and Bahamut mysteriously disappears, and although the realm is scarred by the Seventh Umbral Calmity and a rejoining did occur, the land recovers swiftly to lead into the events of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
In The Binding Coils of Bahamut Raids, Alisae and the Warrior of Light venture into the Coils of Bahamut to find the truth of the Seventh Umbral Calamity. At the base they discover that Bahamut is alive and slowly regenerating. Seeing this, Alisae vows to stop Bahamut from regenerating. Before they leave though, Alisae spies a man towards the back of coils base, spying none other than her grandfather, Louisoix who was thought to perish in the Calamity. They venture through a seperate coil to discover that a form of Nael van Darnus lives, naming herself as Nael dues Darnus, she pledges loyalty to Bahamut. Later she is confronted at the bottom of the Second Coil, where she transforms into a morphed form resembling Bahamut. She is defeated and reveals that she is all that is left of Nael, pulled from the Aetherial sea by Bahamut and enthralled before she could truly die. Louisoix then shows up and kills Nael. He then confronts and attacks Alisae, telling her to stop disabiling the coils. Alisae realizes that Louisoix suffered the same fate the Nael did, enthralled before he truly perished and revived as a memory serving Bahamut. In the descent into the Final Coil with Alphinaud, The party discover the Dragons of Meracydia imprisoned within the coils, discovering that Bahamut's form was kept alive by the imprisoned Dragons praying to Lord Bahamut indefinitely. Regretably, The Scions realize that the only way to rid the world of Bahamut was to kill his children too, which they deduce will happen by disabiling the coils life support systems. They go deeper into the Coil where they are confrotned by Louisoix's shade. He turns into Phoenix but is defeated. His spirit than briefly appears before the party where he reveals the truth of the Calamity, how he became a primal to lay Bahamut low, but was tempered just before he could perish. Louisoix bestows the last of his power to his Grand Children, who together open the way into The Coils Computer Systems, where the Warrior of Light confronts Bahamut Prime and defeats him. The coils are finally disabled and Bahamut disappears once and for all.
In Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers, Fandaniel makes his debut appearence to the Scions at Ala Mhigo where he is accompanied by a new Lunar Bahamut. He reveals his plan to bring about the Final Days and has Lunar Bahamut breathe fire on the gathering, only singing them, as a warning. Later during the fighting that broke out at paglth'an, The Warrior of Light confronts Lunar Bahamut and defeats him, showing the vast ammount of strength the Warrior of Light gained since their first encounter Against Bahamut. It is unknown which Tower empowers Lunar Bahamut, but it is revealed that some of Tiamat's children still live and where likely captured, tempered, and imprisoned in much the same way the Amalj'aa were, and as fate would have it, how the dragons were imprisoned by the Allagans.
Phoenix (Louisoix)
Phoenix is a symbol of Rebirth, show as a bird who perishes in flames only for the ashes to reveal a newborn phoenix. In the wake of Bahamut nearly casting Terraflare, Louisoix draws upon the survivors of Cartenau prayers as well as the abundant aether released by Bahamut, to transform himself into Phoenix. He then gains dramatic power which he uses to piece Bahamuts heart and severely wound him. Louisoix was then content to perish, to release the aether he and Bahamut absorbed to heal the land, but before he could perish, his soul was enthralled, and Bahamut not truely dead hid underground where he took advantage of the coils that use to bind him, as they worked to restore his form. Phoenix is the first primal to not be malevolent, however a Primal is a Primal and as Alphinaud reveals, he would only drain the land of Aether should he come back by a summoning, a fate Alphinaud and Alisae decided to avoid by concealing the truth of the Calamity from public attention.
King Moggle Mog
King Moggle Mog is the fifth Primal encountered by the Warrior of Light in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. He is based off the myth that the Twelveswood Moggles descended from the sky, led by their great King Moggle Mog. King Moggle Mog was summoned after The Ascians taught the Moggles the art of summoning. Not being based off a religion and the truth of Bahamut not being known the Scions, the nature of his summoning defied all previous explanations of summoning as he was the first Primal summoned on a whim rather than being a religious god. King Moggle Mog appears as a Giant Elder Moogle with a crown and scepter. In the battle against Mog, The Warrior of Light slayed him and defeated his 8 Knights. King Moggle Mog was re-summoned later with more power, but was defeated by the Warrior of Light.
Leviathan
Leviathan, also known as the Lord of Whorls is the sixth Primal encountered by the Warrior of Light in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. He is the god of the Sahagin beast tribe, a band of fish, Mer-Man like people. Leviathan takes the appearance of a giant water serpent. Leviathan controls the element of water and vows to drown Limsa Lominsa with his powerful Tidal Wave.
The Sahagin attempt the summon Leviathan with the assistance of the Ascians. The priest who summoned Leviathan obtained the echo, meaning that even though he was slain, the summoning was not halt as he hopped from body to body. Leviathan was summoned though and absorbed the soul of the Sahagin Priest. He then made way to the vast ocean to prepare his Tidal Wave. Storm Marshall Eynzahr Slafyrsyn theorizes a way for The Warrior of Light to confront Leviathan, using two ships to carry corrupted crystals to create a barrier to protect the Warrior of Light from Leviathan's Tidal wave. This becomes very handy in the confrontation where The Warrior of Light slays Levaithan. Leviathan is later summoned again with more power, but the same technique was used and the Warrior of Light preveails once more
In the Eden Raids, Leviathan is Summoned to restore Water to the Empty. There he appears as a two headed serpant with a more blue hue, but otherwise looks mostly the same.
Ramuh
Ramuh, also known as the Lord of Levine, is the seventh Primal encoutnered in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Unlike all previous Primals encountered in the Main Story Quest, Ramuh is not aggressive and for all intents and purposes not a villain, but he is still a Primal and his vey existence threatens to drain the land of aether. Ramuh also still did temper the Sylphs who summoned him, causing them to become reliant on him and for the Non-tempered sylphs to be outcasted and flee to Little Solace. Ramuh is the God of the Sylph Beast Tribe located in the East Shroud. He is typically summoned by the Sylphs when they feel threatened, typically by the Garlean Empire's advances on their territory, as they do occupy near by Gyr Abania. Ramuh controls the element of Lightning. Ramuh appears as a large humanoid. He wears a large flowing robe and has a massive white beard which covers his entire front body. Ramuh's Body shape in general resembles that of the Sylph Body shape despite being human-like.
Ramuh is summoned by the Sylphs and the Scions approach him to make peace, knowing the Lord of Levine is known to be benovolent. AS expected he seeked no conflict with the Gridanians, however had little faith that they could protect the Sylphs and make peace with them. He declared that if mankind became a threat to the Sylphs, they would recieve his judgement. Ramuh test the Warrior of Light's strength, to see if the Warrior of Light really could defend the Realm from the Ascians and other threats. Ramuh is defeated and satisfied. He is later resummoned much stronger, and knowing that he does present a threat to his own children, Ramuh opts to test the Warrior of Light in a greater trial and once again falls in battle.
In the Eden Raids, Ramuh is summoned to restore Lightning to the Empty. He appears drastically different, instead appearing as a centaur, with a blue and white horse body, and a very muscular human body wearing a tunic rather than robe. He appears much more war like rather than a mage like his original counterpart. Ramuh also holds a large red spear and his beard is dramatically shorter.
Shiva
Shiva, is a Primal summoned by Ysayle. Ysayle, a lead heretic fighting against Ishgardian Orthodox Church finds the means to summoning and readies a ritual to summon Saint Shiva. Shiva was a human who fell in love with the Great Wyrm Hresvelgr. She is a symbol of peace between mankind and Dragon years after the Allagan conflict. To end this conflict once and for all, Shiva and Hresvelgr willing had Hresvelgr eat her, so that she would be forever joined with him. This ended the Conflict between Dragon and Man until Thordan I, founder of Ishgard, warred with the Dragons and rekindled the War.
Ysayle came to believe that she was Shiva reborn and summoned Shiva, channeling the Primal into herself and becoming Shiva. Shiva controlled hte element of Ice and appears as a Elezen women with a Regal look, an Ice Queen Archetype. Ysayle had the echo, allowing her to take control of the Primal. She battled the Warrior of Light but failed, and left after telling the Warrior of Light to find the truth at The Keeper of the Lake. Shiva was later ressumoned with more power, only to be defeated by the Warrior of Light again.
In Final Fantasy XIV Heavensward Ysayle summons Shiva in an attempt to defeat The Primal Ravana, but fails and is injured. Later she and the Warrior of Light meet with Hresvelgr. Shiva pleas to the Great Wyrm that she is Saint Shiva reborn, but Hresvelgr scolds her for her ignorance and reveals the truth that Primals are not the original or actual gods, but rather phantoms that are created on the spot through prayer. Ysayle becomes disillusioned at her cause, realizing that the Shiva she had "welcomed into her heart" was a phantom. Towards the end of Heavensward, after The Party infiltrates Azys Lla, The VIth Garlean Legion followed the Scions and attempted to shoot their airship down, but Hresvelgr delivered Ysayle to assist the Scions. She became Shiva once more and inflicted critical damage on The Garlean Airship, forcing them to abandon their attack and land. However, Ysayle was also critically wounded and perished.
In the Eden Raids, Shiva was summoned to restore Ice to the Empty, the last element yet to be restored. In attempts to make the summoning work, Ryne offered to make herself a vessel for Shiva. Against Thancred's wishes, the party ultimately agreed to it and Ryne became a new Shiva. This Shiva took the appearance of Ryne, looking like a young Hume. Ryne did not have the Echo though, and lost control of her Shiva. The Warrior of Light battled Shiva but Shiva's power nearly overwhelemed them before Gaia unleashed her power as the Oracle of Darkness to combat the Light-oriented Ice Aether, freeing the warrior of Light and allowing Shiva to be slain and Ryne saved.

Unlike other Primals, his essence is sealed within his Sword, and he continues to revive himself as the wandering Black Knight on his steed. Odin tempts mortals to steal his sword and uses their body as a vessel for him. Odin is confronted by the Warrior of Light and defeated, but the cycle of those stealing his sword continues. Odin can be fought repeatedly through a Rare FATE that spawns in the The Black Shroud zones.

Ravana has a love for Battle and as such wages war against he Dragons of Anyx Trine. When the Gnath captured The Warrior of Light and Ysale, as part of their own plan, Ravana gave the two the option to battle him or too cower and serve him. Ysayle tried to battle him first by becoming Shiva, but Ravana defeated her. He then challeneged the Warrior of Light who took up his offer and they did battle. Despite the odds, the Warrior of Light preveiled and felled Ravana. Much later, Unukalhai reveals that the Gnath have summoned a much Stronger Ravana, and that this Ravana might seek the power of the Warring Triad Primals, and must be stop. The Warrior of Light confronts Ravana and defeats him once more.
During the Second Battle of Carteneau, a Lunar Ravana was confronted by Alisae and Gr'aha Tia, and defeated.
Bismark
Bismark is the second Primal encountered in Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward. Bismark is a God of the Vanu Vanu beast tribe. He is a Flying Whale who delivered the Vanu Vanu to the Sea of Clouds and gave them land to live. He was summoned as a Primal by the Vundo tribe. Ironically, this Bismark served as a doom-bringer for the Vanu Vanu, eating various Islands to sustain his thirst for Aether. In order to defeat Bismark, Cid Garlond's help was enlished. Using the Enterprise, they lured Bismark by towing a small Island behind it. This Allowed the Warrior of Light to get in distance to attack Bismark and defeat him. Later Unukalhai reveals that the Vanu Vanu have summoned a much Stronger Bismark and that this Bismark might seek the power of the Warring Triad Primals, and must be stop. Using the same tactic, the Warrior of Light slayed Bismark once more.
King Thordan and His Knights of the Round
When King Thordan VII was ousted of Ishgard for his role in continuing Man's crime against the Dragons and concealing the truth from his own people, he journeyed with his Heavensward to Azys Lla, where they found Haldrith's Tomb. The Warrior of Light journeyed through Azys Lla, eventually coming to the The Singularity Reactor, where The Warrior of Light encounters and defeats Lahabrea and Igeyorhm. The Warrior of Light uses White Auracite to slay Igeyorhm. King Thordan reveals himself and shows that Haldrath's Tomb holds the missing Eye of Nidhogg. He uses the power from the eye to Channel a Primal into himself and become King Thordan. The Heavensward Simutaneously become Primals as Thordan's Round Table. King Thordan appears as an Armored King with a giant Great Sword, and his Knights armored Knights with various Weapons of choice. The Warrior of Light Fights and defeats each Knight until only Thordan Remains and slays King Thordan.
Sephirot
Sephirot, the Fiend, is the Fourth Primal encountered in Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward. He is the first to be fought in the Warring Triad Side Story. Not much is known of him other than he was summoned as the god of a tree-like race of people. Sephirot himself appears as a large trent-golem like creature. He was imprisoned by the Allagans and brought to Azys Lla to help power the facility. Like Bahamut, being imprisoned has spiraled his rage out of conrol and made him into an unreasonable monster. He is freed by The Scions and defeated by The Warrior of Light. Unlike almost all previous Primals fought, his extreme fight was not a refight against him but a simulation. This trope would continue for all Primals forward.
Sophia
Sophia, the goddess, is the Fifth Primal encountered in Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward. She is the second to be fought in the Warring Triad Side Story She is the Goddess of a Meracydian, and much like the Dragons of Meracydia, summoned a Primal to defend against the Allagan Invasion. In this Arc of the Warring Triad, children of Sophia attack the Scions, mistaking them for Allagans. The Scions deduce that the battle with Thordan VII weakened Allagan restraint systems and were on the cusp of freeing these Primals and their worshippers, giving urgency to battle these Primals. Much like Sephirot, she had also become a monster or mass rage, not realizing the Allagans had perished long ago. Sophia was confronted and defeated by the Warrior of Light.
Zurvan
Zurvan, the Demon, is the Sixth and Final Primal encountered in Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward. He is the Final Primal to be fought in the Warring Triad Side Story. Sophia's Thralls began to free Zurvan's Thralls to cause an uprising against the late Allagan Empire. Zurvan began to stir and attacked the Garleans, enthralling many of their soldiers. Regula van Hydrus perished in this skrimish to defend Unukalhai. After this The Warrior of Light battles and Defeats Zurvan
Alexander
Alexander is a giant steel colossus fortress that was made into a Primal by the Illuminati in the Alexander Raids. Alexander was meant to take the Illuminati through to a time of paradise, where all other times would be damned, this as a result of Alexander's power to control time. Alexander is different from most Primals in that he isn't directly active or hostile. He is a machine and as such does nothing without input. He does have a sentience however, and after determining that there was no way he could achieve utopia without destroying the land, drying it of Aether, Alexander reached the conclusion that the most logical course of action was to destroy itself. Alexander enlisted the help of a small couerl kitten to act as emmissary between Quickthinx Allthoughts and Idylshire, changing events in history to ensure that eventually the Warrior of Light will eliminate Alexander.
Alexander can control time inside of itself, allowing any parts of Alexander that were destroyed to be repaired simply by rewinding time. Alexander can also travel through time, as it did when Roundrox input for Alexander to travel back in time to when Mide's clan tried to Summon Alexander themselves. There it was revealed that instead of witnessing a successful summoning of Alexander, instead Alexander traveled back to that time. There, the Illuminati gained control of Alexander and various Goblins of the Illuminati gathered on the outside to kill Mide's comrades, with only Dayan being spared. Alexander than began to absorb the surrounding land for Aether needed to Travel back. Mide was about to be consumed, only for Dayan to shove her out of way and to be absorbed instead. Mide tried to then Seal Alexander and did before it traveled back to the present.
The Warrior of Light progressed through Alexander and defeated its last line of defense, Alexander Prime. They tried to disable Alexander, only for Quickthinx to intervene. Even when being shot, he was still alive due to being a cyborg, and tried to call upon Alexander's power, but due to not being able to control Alexander, unlike Roundrox, Alexander fried him and killed him. Then Dayan, from Alexander's computer, communicated with Mide and together they were able to put Alexander into an eternal statis, where it would never harm anything ever again.
Suzano
Suzano, also known as The Lord of Revel, is the First Primal encountered in Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood. He is a God of the Red Kojin. similar to Odin, His essence was conceal in the Three Relics of the Kojin, The sword Ame no Murakumo, The Mirror, and Yasakani-no-Magatama. The Warrior of Light returned The third of the Relics to the Red Kojin as a favor from the Peaceful Blue Kojin, while also acting as Thieves to distract the Red Kojin from helping the Garleans. As a side effect of bringing the 3 relics together, however, Susano was summoned by the Red Kojin's desire to protect their treasures. Susano takes the appearence of a Knight in bulky armor, resembling a Kojin to some degree with Red hair and a Rapier. Much like Ravana, Susano craves the thrill of battle. He Battles of the Warrior of Light and is defeated in elegance.
Lakshimi
Lakshimi, also known as the Lady of Bliss, is a goddess of the Anata Beast tribe. She is a goddess of beauty worshipped by both the Vira and Qalyana clans, but the two clans' have different beliefs about her, with the friendly Vira Clan believing that Lakshimi values the beauty of independence and of one's character, their own inner image. The Qalyana on the other hand take it more literal, believing Lakshimi values pure beauty and to a degree vanity, that she is the authority on true beauty that others look unto with guidance. The Primal Lakshimi is based on the Qalyana's goddess. Lakshimi appears as a Human-like figure wearing a green dress and sitting on some sort of throne.
Lakshimi was summoned When Fordola, ignorant of the differences between the rebelling (to the Garlean Empire) Vira and the neutral Qalyana, confront the Qalyana Queen and took her daughter hostage in case the Qalyana attacked them, despite this possibility being very unlikely. The Queen demanded her daughter be let go and tensions rose to the point that an inexperienced Skull slayed the daughter, causing the Queen to despair and cry out for a savior. As it turned out, The Anata used Aether Crystals in their jewelry and this was enough for the initial summoning of Lakshimi to take place. Lakshimi comforted the Queen and brought back her daughter, however this malevolent Lakshimi only brought back and empty husk with no soul.
The Scions infiltraite The Qalyana stronghold and spy on a meeting between the Qualyana Queen and Lakshimi, where Lakshimi responded to the lack of the Queen's Daugther having a soul being that he body being pure beauty was enough, and that the queen simply did not understand. This caused Alisae to go into a rage and confront her, causing the rest of the Scions to follow. Lakshimi tried to temper the Scions, but the Warrior of Light created a shield that prevented this. Lakshimi decided to let the Scions go, saying to leave her children alone, but the Warrior of Light followed and Slayed Lakshimi.
After the liberation of Ala Mhigo, a conference was held to decide it's new government. Representatives from all over Gyr Abania were invited, and the Hostile Qalyana got word and showed up. Not wanting to be hypocrites, the Ala Mhighans let them through and proceeded with Caution. Unbelievably though, many Ala Mhigans were tempered by Lakshimi and helped smuggle in Crystals, which allowed the Qalyana brood mother to Summon Lakshimi in the middle of the meeting. The Warrior of Light and Arenvald did there best to save many from the tempering of Lakshimi, but the situation was not in there favor, as increasing bursts of tempering made it harder to ensure none made it to a victim. Fordola was let out of her cell though and showed up. The three of them held off Lakshimi long enough to prevent anyone else from being tempered and for Lakshimi to be slayed once more.
Shinryu
Shinryu is a name given to a Dragon Primal that was summoned by Ilberd. Ilberd during the Invasion of Baelsar's Wall by the disguised Ala Mhigan Radicals, Ilberd planned for the resistence to be massacred, to which they were, and then he would use the Eyes of Nidhogg, which he obtained from Elidibus and summoned a Primal fueled by the desire for revenge on the Empire. The Primal would be extremely strong with such a limitless source of aether, likely stronger than even Bahamut. The Primal was briefly sealed when Paplymo sacraficed himself to seal the Dragon, giving the Scions just enough time to find a solution. The Scions, with the help of Cid Garlond and Nero tol Scalva, they awakened Omega who immediately went after Shinryu. Omega arrived just in time for Shinryu to break out. The two did battle, causing major consequences for the land below. In the end the two took each other down though.
The Empire Found Shinryu, severely wounded and dormant with no one to sustain it with aether or prayer. They captured it and Zenos began his plan to use the primal for his Hunt. When he was defeated by the Warrior of Light, he retreated to the Royal Menagerie and used his artifical echo to merge his soul with Shinryu. He took control of the Dragon Primal and did Battle with the Warrior of Light, who slayed Shinryu.
Tsukuyomi
Tsukiyomi is a Doman Kami, goddess of the Moon. When Yotsuyu Regained her memory, She decided to enact her revenge against all who made her life miserable, starting with her foster Parents and then she agreed to help her brother, Ashai by becoming a Primal to ruin any attempt at Peace with Doma and Garlemald. Yotsuyu's motive was to gain the power to exact revenge against the Domans, who treated her very poorly and the Empire who treated her no better. She manifests herself as Tsukiyome, appearing a pale skinned woman with white hair in the figure of Yotsuyu herself, similar to how Shiva manifested. Yotsuyu vents all of her pain during the battle, having shades of her borther, parents, Domans, and even Zenos attack her. A Shade of Goetsu tried to defend her during this, the itch of redepemtion Yotsuyu yearned for yet felt she could not accept. The Warrior of Light eventually defeats Tsukiyome. Yotsuyu falls to the ground, her hair color change to white and severely injured. She uses the last of her power to exact revenge on the one who hurt her the most, Ashai, who despite in a powerful position and having the empathy of suffering at the Domans hand, never saw any reason to save her.
Zodiark
Zodiark, often called The One True God by the Ascians, is the Original Primal. This along with Hydalyn being a Primal, was revealed in Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers. Zodiark was summoned by the Convocation of the Fourteen when The Final Days reach Amaurot and threatened to end the world. Zodiark was summoned as a god to give the star itself a will. Zodiark was the first time any creation was created with such vast power beyond what the Amurotians had, and to accomplish this, The Elidibus at the time sacraficed himself to become Zodiarks heart, and then he recreated himself to serve as Elidibus for the Convocation. Zodiark did stabilize the star at a great cost of making the land unihabital due to consuming all the Aether. The Convocation then sacraficed a third of their people to restore life to stability. Zodiark did temper those who summoned him, however instead of being mindlessly enslaved to the Primal, The Ascians with his blessing still had there own free will.
Not much is known about Zodiark himself other than that his essence manifests as dark purple Crystal. Zodiark controls the element of Darkness, technically an unaspected (elementless) aether oriented towards Astral, or Darkness. Zodiark's main agents are the three unsundered Ascians, being Lahabrea, Elidibus, and Emet-Selch. Once those 3 perished, Zodiark was left with no agents to enforce his will.
Zodiark serves as the main antagonist in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, being the conclusion of the Hydalyn-Zodiark Saga and is also the overarching antagonist of the Hydalyn-Zodiark Saga in Final Fantasy XIV.
Hydalyn
In Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers Emet-Selch revealed that Hydalyn was a Primal. Along with Zodiark, they two are the eldest and most Powerful of Primals. A group of Amaurotians where unsatisfied with the Convocations actions to continue to feed Zodiark, believing that too much had already been sacrificed. They attempted to summon a being of equal power who would keep Zodiark in check, and thus they summoned Hydalyn. Like how Elidibus became the Heart of Zodiark, Hydalyn too neeeded a heart, to which Venat, leader of these Amaurotians, became the heart of Hydalyn. Contrasting to Zodiark, Hydalyn controlled the element of Light, technically unaspected aether oriented toward umbral or Light. Instead of keeping Zodiark in check however, the two Primals fought, with Hydalyn being victorious. In a decisive blow, Hydalyn split Zodiark into Fourteen pieces. Because Zodiark was the will of the star though, the star itself because split into fourteen pieces as well, the Source and its thirteen reflection shards. This event became known as the Great sundering
Hydalyn has taken over as the will of the star and contrast to Zodiark's desire to restore the world to its original state, Hydalyn desired life to be left alone and in peace as was the will of her summoners. To this end she battled the Ascians who sought to eliminate her by reviving Zodiark, and to do this the Ascian defied Hydalyn's will for peace by destroying the other shards, or more accurately causing them to rejoin with the source which if all 13 where, Zodiark would be revived and Hydalyn would grow weak enough to be expelled. Unlike Zodiark who is implied to be an active deity (likely due to his alignment with Dark, representing the active), Hydalyn is very Non-action (likely due to her alignment with Light, the Stasis) and thus chooses her agents as Warriors of Light and Oracles of Light to combat The Ascians. She intervenes very little directly though, perhaps out of seeing how her actions caused the great sundering. Infact, it is discussed in Shadowbringers how it had been a very long time since Hydalyn directly spoke to the Warrior of Light. Ironically, not too long after this conversation, Hydalyn appeared, manifesting as a silohuette of a Amaurotian, possibly that of Venat, spoke to the Warrior of Light about the coming of the end and asked them to save the realm.
Hydalyn served as a major character in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker as it is the conclusion of the Hydalyn-Zodiark Saga and the overarching protagonist of the Hydalyn-Zodiark Saga in Final Fantasy XIV.
Elidibus
As revealed in Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers, The Elidibus the Warrior of Light knows is not actually the original Elidibus but rather a Primal created by the original Elidibus to serve as Elidibus for the Convocation. As it turned out, this Primal survived the Sundering and became one of the Unsundered Ascians.
