Sphere Cell

Sphere Cell (スフィア細胞, Sufia Saibō) is the DNA sample of the Spheres,[1] making up the proportion of their being.

History

Ultraman Dyna

The Sphere Cells appear around the same time as their namesake owners. They are also shared to the Sphere Synthetic Monsters when a Sphere latched to a material to assimilate and give birth to these monsters. At least seen in the case of Terranoid, when the Spheres attached to the artificial Ultraman, the Sphere Cells formed the outer flesh/hide of Zeluganoid, that initial attempts at attacking him with beam attacks by Ultraman Dyna resulted with the Sphere Cells momentarily visible before they reformed to normal.

Ultraman Saga

The Alien Bat who invaded Future Earth had been kidnapping the Spheres from the World of Neo Frontier Space to feed them to his Hyper Zetton (Gigant) and empower it even further. When Bat fuses his spaceship with Hyper Zetton's corpse to become its Imago state, the Sphere Cells remained in the monster.

The director's cut further added that these cells are used to empower the five monster corpses he grave-robbed from the Monster Graveyard into Monster Weapons, as they act as lifeless zombies instead of actually being alive in a sense.

The Sphere Cell appeared through Neo Geomos, one of the Sphere's many progenies as a Sphere Synthetic Monster. It is stated by Charija that the reason why he kidnapped Neo Geomos as part of his forces is to get his hands on the Sphere Cells, thus by combining his monsters into Demon Gyrares XIV would provide it with the Synthetic Monster's genetic makeup and (hopefully) giving it the advantage against Tiga, Dyna and Gaia. Ultraman Decker

The Sphere Cells once again appeared through the Spheres, this time seeing them playing important roles other than simply forming Sphere Synthetic Monsters. When the Sphere Barriers get formed around the Earth, the Sphere Cells also make up the barrier, hence preventing entrance to and/or exit from Planet Earth. The sole method of bypassing this is through the Sphere Soldier Mons Dimension Card, which Akito modified through a Sphere Soldier carcass he obtained to allow Ultraman Trigger and Decker with the ability to mimic the Spheres' genetic makeup.

When Agams revealed himself and hijacked Terraphaser, further analysis made by GUTS-Select discovered that the robot was secretly empowered by the Spheres, hence why it garners the attention from Gazort and Raibasser. In addition, because of Agams' method of piloting the robot requires direct bio-linking to its systems, this means that he was constantly putting himself at risk from the Spheres' influence even without direct contact. It only started with gradual loss of memory, forcing him to rely on Laelia's quote to preserve his mind, then the Sphere Cells forming around his flesh as a result.

During Decker's defeat by the Mother Spheresaurus, Sphere Cells started to form on his flesh after the Ultra's direct hit from the monster's beam. Kanata still maintains his sense of self and manages to transform into Decker in the final battle. The Sphere infection would disappear after Kanata and the rest of GUTS-Select members rejected Mother Spheresaurus' offer for assimilation. Mother Spheresaurus would be destroyed by Decker's Eternity Core-empowered Selgend Beam, in the process wiping out the Sphere Soldiers and what remains of the Sphere Cells with it.

Powers

  • Assimilation: The Sphere Cells act as assimilation agents to create Sphere Synthetic Monsters, either by direct contact with the minerals, inanimate objects or existing Kaiju as hosts. In the case of the latter however, the Sphere Cell made its work by rewriting the DNA sequence of its host before it mutated them into their current form.[1]
    • Mind Control: Related to above, the Sphere Cells subjugate their hosts' will to serve the Spheres. In the case of Alien Bat's Monster Weapons however, they obey his direct orders.
  • Empowerment: In the case of Zeluganoid, it replenishes the energy he already lost as Terranoid to a perfect fighting shape. This also applies to Hyper Zetton upon devouring the Spheres as a form of rations. When evolved into Imago, Hyper Zetton retains its residual Sphere Cells that it can use to summon the Monster Weapons.
  • Resurrection: The Sphere Cells can act as a resurrection agent. Discounting Alien Bat's Monster Weapons (as they act in a manner similar to zombies), it resurrected the ancient plant Gijeran by accident during the Sphere's assimilation on Megalothor and by extension Carmeara as well, albeit the two act as separate entities.
  • Amnesia Inducement: Direct contact with the Spheres, even if on cellular levels would result in gradual loss of memory. Yapool was reduced an amnesiac who only laughed prior to his death, whereas Agams' mind was temporarily rewound to the time when he was still on Planet Bazdo.
